Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
Reccied it on Sunday with 10 other Rossendale harriers. Think I'm going to be careful on the cobbly descents- did not feel confident in Swoops. Got a pair of walshes but haven't worn them in yet.
Anyone else see the sign for the lost palomino pony? I don't fancy it's chances without many teeth...

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay Ra

Cheers, Ali.
Myself and Widdy did our recce of leg 3 this morning Ali (thanks to Gaz and Steve for helping to escort us round.)
I enjoyed the run immensely, and agree with you that it is runnable, with the exception for me being the sting in the tail at the end of the leg. The majority of the climbing must be in that short section at the end of the run musn't it?
Ominously as i was slowly mutating into a gibbering, gasping, hands on knees wreck,a posse of Radcliffe including; Wirey Manc, Moo and Mr and Mrs CrumblyDown came flying up the hill with far too much energy for my liking :D

No worries mate, nice to meet you. Nice to meet the posse from radcliffe, recognised a few people from the forum but didn't introduce myself.
Good run this am with every bit of weather thrown in for good measure. Hopefully you and Widdy should meet your predicted time for leg 3, a good runable route with a bit of everything:)
with regards
Gaz

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay Ra
Nice to meet you too Gaz and Danbert! We continued on and did leg 4 as well although it was possibly a "leg too far" for me, not been keeping my long runs up and that last mile of bog next to watergrove was not particulalry pleasant!! Glad I'm not doing that leg! (although it's probably a better option than leg 2!)
Weather was interesting to say the least, four seasons in one day..

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay Ra
Good running this morning with Danbert plus Gaz and Steve from CVFR. Cobbles were a bit of a nightmare particularly in the driving sleet and snow. Nice to meet a few forumites, nice to have a chat Moo and your friend and thanks to the guy with the Jellybabies. Didn't catch the name. Oh, and I did a gear test on my new Mizuno Wave Harriers this morning and they came through with flying colours. Anyone who is a litle unsure what to wear on this leg in my opinion its got to be trail shoes, I would not have fancied the decents in my Walshes. Good luck everyone, see you at the changeovers!

Widdy, don't say they fitted like 'slippers' as I am sure Danbert would have something to say!
-
Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay Ra
Not quite slippers although the 'plates of meat' are in good shape and ready for some speed on Tuesday!!

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay Ra
Hope he is around at the race to pass the JB's around again. Looks like we might have a bit of snow on the ground up here, if it lasts, so it will make it interesting.

Come on BJ you can't go all tight lipped and secretive on us about this. Who's in and who's out?

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay Ra
Kevin Fox will now be joining Stainers on Leg 2 (12.5 miles), in place of Chris Leach.
Leg 4 (5.5 miles) is now Mark Hayes and Clive Conway instead of Walker boy and Chris Armour.
Spin the wheel ...

John,
I knew that Chris Armour was a doubt, but what's happened to Walker Boy, a skiing mishap ??
-
Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay Ra
Walker Boy had a prior commitment (he'd already paid for) and didn't plan to be on the team this year.
-
Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay Ra
Has anyone reccied leg 2 recently? I was out yesterday and almost came a cropper on the final descent as they were concreting the final track and almost went headfirst into wet concrete! Looking forward to the weekend, though hopefully will be able to see further than the 20metres that was possible yesterday!

Get well soon matey. :)

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay Ra
Yeah i saw those concreting people too, there was half a footprint shape in the concrete, looked like the back end of an innov8 flyroc about a size 9 if i'm not mistaken.

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay Ra
Danbert - Mr Blobby just drooped off our numbers for Sunday, don't forget the safety pins. Really looking forward to it.

Me too Widdy, me too.
Got a text off Stainers before, apparently Chris Armour is 'back' in for Kevin Fox on leg 2.
I can't even try to imagine the implications and significance of all the changes and different team connotations, let alone try and forecast how we'll do compared to the super fast mixed team.
Lets just enjoy it. :)
-
Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay Ra
Apparently theres 40 gates to open on leg one alone!
-
Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay Ra
Good luck Widdy and Danbert; hopefully you won't get too lost with out our expert guidance and local knowledge of leg 3!!!! ;)
with regards
Gaz

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay Ra
Cheers Gaz. Come down and give us a shout if you are around for our Leg.

Fair comment about the old blokes thing.
I understand from other (age related) posts on this forum it won't be too long before you can come and play in the old blokes team.

No last minute banter?? Anyone waiting at Leg 3 tomorrow say hello to me and Danbert before we start to 'power' our way up the first climb. All the best to everyone who is running tomorrow, it looks like it's going to be a cracking day.

Nothing wrong with a bit of confidence and bullishness Widdy. Think you might be a little bit over optimistic and hopeful with the expressin 'power' though - remember who your partner is.:)
-
Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay Ra
It's 80% in the legs and 20% in the mind, or somethig like that. Anyway why are you still up? You should be tucked up in bed getting your beauty sleep and running the leg over and over in your sleep.

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay Ra
Rochdale Mixed are oiled up and raring to go.
