I am just really happy that someone has finally had a go at Ann's long-standing record.

Re: Nicky Spinks Record attemp
From the Racekit twitter feed:
Nicky's still 36 mins up on schedule but suffering a few stomach issues.
It'll be warm out there today!

Re: Nicky Spinks Record attemp
Again from Racekit:
Nicky through Wasdale 16.24, still 36mins up on schedule.
The hot weather's affecting her stomach but she's as determined as ever!
Whatever the final outcome this is some run.

What a performance, Nicky is a legend. Probably the most focused person i know to the point of stubberness. Awesome effort in the conditions throught the day which was very warm, the night was so perfect as to be unbelievable. hardly a breath of wind and so clear. A mindblowing sky to the north proved that even the weather gods were smiling on Nicky, Well done to the whole team.
For completeness it's worth noting that this wasn't a DPFR effort although there was large continguent for Dark Peak, Equal in numbers were our friends from Penistone FPR where Nicky started running, Amanda Heading From Race Kit who was the coordinator and made sure every thing/body was where it was supposed to be. plenty of others also helped out
At the finish at approx 2.45am there were 30-40 supporters, family and friends gathered to cheer her in followed by Champagne and beer to toast her success. Nicky Sat in a chair with a huge grin as she recieved hugs from every one.
The party continued at the campsite for those who could keep awake until 4.30am with more beer and whisky.
Anne Johnson turned up again as Nicky was taken out for a celebratory meal after a lazy morning(for most) on the campsite.
One wonders what great feat Nicky will come up with next.
Some pics from RaceKit
Well done "Nails":w00t::thumbup::))

Re: Nicky Spinks Record attemp
What a fantastic achievement - very well done to Nicky.
The fact that Anne's record has endured for 17 years is testimony to how tough a day this was.
'Nails' is very appropriate IDP!
What were Nicky's extra 2 peaks?

Re: Nicky Spinks Record attemp

just done a bit of research and it's called Noctilucent cloud, very rare and only occurs at certain times in conjunction with certain weather condition.
It was very similar to this, I'll try and find out if any one got a good picture of it.

Cheers Ian It is very hard image to take. From the summit of Causey Pike it covered the whole of the northern sky, As I started to climb it was like the sky was on fire, By the time we descended it hard turned bluer.

Re: Nicky Spinks Record attemp
What an achievement, fantastic! I was doing the 10 Peaks which started at 4am on the 2nd, and completed in just over 19hrs, and know how warm it was all day. Coming towards the end of my event, I agree with those on here with an eye for a good night-time photo, the sky was stunning, and they really were perfect night conditions.
Nicky, this is some record to have set...congrats.
-
Re: Nicky Spinks Record attemp
Superb, on a bit of a warm day too. Seems she had time for another peak or two ;-) Legend

Re: Nicky Spinks Record attemp

Re: Nicky Spinks Record attemp
very, very well done nicky. you looked like you were moving well up great end. I thought it was you as I descended with my son, Ben and his friend Harry, but wasn't sure to start with, then I saw Yiannis and he told me what you were up to. Yiannis seemed very concerned he wouldn't catch up if he stopped to chat to me! What a day to do it on - one of the best, enjoyed by the hoardes on scafell pike including a man in a banana costume.

John, it was nice meeting you up there. I never saw the banana man on Scafell Pike. Mind you, there was little spare time to look around as Nicky was pushing on relentlessly. We just managed to squeeze in a short photo session by the trig point.
