Hodder Valley Show - 11th Sept
A last minute heads up for this annual fell race. This year it's from Boars Den Farm between Newton in Bowland and Dunsop Bridge; to the trig. point on Burn Fell and back. Also Junior Race. 1.30 p.m. start, allow time to get from parking to registration then to start. It's a BM, so kit will be required for the senior race.
Now off to recce with the RO, will be flagging the route from 4.00pm on Friday.
Re: Hodder Valley Show - 11th
Gutted to be missing this, was my first ever fell race when I did it last year, but will be taking on ye Pendle Monster instead this weekend.

With that statement you are implying that kit is mandatory in BM races which it isn't.

Did not mean to mislead; but from this venue it is a rather contorted run out across an intervening 'valley' of enclosed land to get to the fell; plus, Saturday's forecast is far from ideal. It is pretty fair to assume that we will be asking competitors to carry basic foul weather kit. This is not just to cover ourselves; the land owners have requested that we submit a risk assessment in order to cover them for events that they have sanctioned on their property. A bit tedious maybe, but the nature of life in the 21st C in an increasingly litigious society

Your race, your call. Simples:wink:
Re: Hodder Valley Show - 11th
Ian, Yiannis and I were over that way today and I noticed that the tour of Britain will be cycling through. Do you know what time as this could cause issues with parking etc??

Re: Hodder Valley Show - 11th
How much is entry to the show please?
I don't really want to spend lots as I won't want to lok at all the cows, sheep and tractors

Entry has been quoted at £6, but we do give a rebate which the RO is currently negotiating/working out.
If the Tour sticks to schedule, it should be over the N side of the Trough of Bowland by 12.30

Thanks to the organisers for a great race and pre race information via e mail. Well marshalled, well flagged and the weather was kind. I am sure RRRR will be back next year even better.

Yes great race with a bit of everything under foot. Route was super. Thanks to organisers
Re: Hodder Valley Show - 11th
Great little race. After I'd paid to get into the show I can't believe that I got paid £1 to run the race then receive FREE BEER at the finish. The bottle of Bowland Brewery's 'Druids Ruin' went down a treat last night.:)
Thanks to the organisers ~ including Wheezing Donkey and helper for the water at the finish !
Any results out yet?

m.e. What Mark is getting at:- He paid £6 to get into the show; at registration he received a £1 'rebate' ( yes, that makes it a fiver to actually enter the race; BUT, once on the show field he was effectively being paid £1 to run in the race ) plus of course the free bottle of Bowland Brewery's "Druids' Ruin" in the finish funnel. Not quite the same value as a Woodentops race; but we are getting there; and we have to fit in with the HVS itself.
