Sorry Ian, I forgot the vets being only a spring chicken myself.
Should see you at Tod sports centre as I am down for leg 3 this time.
Rossendale for the vets team
Anybody doing leg 4 or 5 as I will be marshalling at Wainstalls. Might bring some Christmas cake for post / pre race fueling. Will everybody be going back to the Rugby club for refreshments ?
I am doing Leg 4 and will be the Rugby club afterwards.
Yep, I'll be on Leg 5, Manhar, and will then return to the Rugby Club to drink beer.
I'm on Leg 4 for Baildon (Mixed) so if you're still there some time after cut-off I might see you ...
(I get mixed up these days about whether I'm running for Calder Valley, Baildon or Fell Ponies - but the Fell Ponies don't have a team entered, and I'd never get into a Calder Valley CWR team, so by process of elimination, I must be running for Baildon.)
anyone travelling from leeds going to leg 2 start - cragg vale for 9am?
oh yeah and is willing to offer a lift! thanks!
Do the three of you get confused with all this schizophrenia, Tussockface? :D
See you at Wainstalls, Manhar - I'm on leg 5.
PS: anyone doing leg 5 who hasn't reccied it, be very careful descending to Shibden Vale - the slabs are treacherous - its where I slipped and knackered my knee recceing for this last year, and clubmate Steve Houghton has damaged his knee even worse a few weeks ago at the very same spot.
treacherous indeed ! I slipped when I was recceing that leg a few week ago
Be VERY careful !!
I'm doing leg 3,so what was I doing recceing that leg
I reccied leg 2 yesterday. About the STABLES: I "ran" the gauntlet of a long row of horses heads all gazing sadly out of their stables at the point where the description says "... following a field path into a lane between farm buildings ...". There were also quite a lot of people and one or two dogs. Strange that these stables are not mentioned. I did not see any stables at the point highlighted in the description - Todmorden Edge Farm. Am I confused?
Not sure what the instructions say but you are correct that there are no stables at Todmorden Edge. The walking section is at the stables at longfield, before you drop into Todmorden, (the one with the godfather like horses heads). There's meant to be a marshall there on the day anyway.
See you there Ali, I've been handed Leg 5 as well.
As has been mentioned, the stone flagged path leading down to the beck in Shibden is slippy to say the least (or it will be by the time I get there!)
Cheers. Have a good one.
Thanks Graham, the note from the organisers was:
On going through the riding stables (leg 2) you must WALK through.
This doesn't clarify which stables, and I haven't reccied that leg recently, so I assumed Todmorden Edge, since there was already a mention of stables there. From your description it is clear it should be at Longfield. I have therefore updated the completely unofficial and unendorsed route description.
Reports of any other errors welcome.
I did this last week and the slabs were like glass; I ended up holding onto the fence just to stay upright. the good bit is they don't last long and the rest of the leg seemed fine. See some of you Sunday; I'll be wearing the black and orange of Milton Keynes AC.
Cheers - Raymond
does anybody know a link to last yars results?
Any other forumites running leg 3?
Stick and Grifter are on leg 3 again.
bring your wellies!
Ey up. I've just been drafted in to run Leg 1, so I haven't reccied it.
Any nasty cobbled/slabbed bits on that leg?
I have horrible memories of running around halifax on wet cobbles when I was working over there. Like ice.
Don't worry, It's a drying wind;)

It's cobbled dropping down into Ripponden, also quite slippy dropping into Millbank,
Best of luck
