Steve Temple's map - clockwise
So which way round is it this year?... I think I might have a go. You doing it Colin?...
Well good luck guys. I was hoping to be running this :( Let me know how you all get on and have a good one!
not doing this now , my legs are aching big time after buckden :(
If you aren't Trogging...... maybe you might do this instead!?
KINDER - HELP REQ'D - COTTON GRASS PLANTING
Sunday 17th June - 10.30 onwards
The National Trust have an ongoing Cotton Grass Planting Project on the barren parts of the Kinder Plateau and they would be very pleased to have assistance in planting infant plants in the black morasses of Kinder. Suffice to say it is an important environmental project designed to restore, protect and preserve the magical landscape of Kinder.
The next planting session will be this Sunday, 17th June 2007; so if you are not having a crack at the Kinder Trog Fell Race on Sunday, this might be right up your grough!!!
If you can help, the meeting point (where the plants are - thousands of the little blighters!) is at the ruined cabin beside the stone flagged pathway, which runs between Kinderlow & Swine's Back, GR (SK) 077866, altitude approx 598m.
Be there if you can, there will be folk around and about from 10.30am till 3pm’ish, you will need to supply your own food and protective clothing for the elements - no specialist equipment required, planting technique will be taught on the day by Shane Bates (NT Warden) and his associates...
There will be plenty of runners passing closeby, waving & gasping en-route to another (hopeful) Trog finish...!
Thanks
Andy H
I think I may have.. ahem.. helped to firm the ground around a few of those Cotton Grass Plants. I guess that makes me a helper. Noticed you didn't stop to get involved Andy
Not sure why they asked us to pass tot he right of the swines back - meant I ended up tramping across some of the new plantings...
As for the race, my legs run out of oomph just after edale cross and I got cramp in both legs when we turned right at the top below south head. Oh well, I thought my OCT training would carry me through, but perhaps it took more out me than I thought!
Thanks to the organisers, nice cheese butties at the end.
So that's where all the cheese butties went:DQuote:
...nice cheese butties at the end.
Enjoyed the race so much more than two years ago - managed to get round without colliding with any stiles this time. Thanks to the organisers & everyone involved with the race.
I felt rubbish for the first hour really struggled. Had a better second half and seemed to pick it up after the initial climbs to the tops.
Feel tired now,
Met a good few forumites today.
Well done Jamie, glad you're going well. Thanks to the organisers, I enjoyed it today: getting going after a bit of a rest. Good to see Geoff B taking it easy. I think Emma gave him a piggy back up to Swine's Back.;)
I caught the sun today?
I was debating whether to wear a vest or helly today. Glad I went for just the vest.
Caught the sun? Which way did you go???
Probably out for a lot longer than you pal,
No shoulders are very red and vest shaped
fab jamie. Really glad that you're back racing again :)
Made quite a change for me to be watching rather than competing. In between watching the runners, Emma & I managed to plant a couple of hundred new cotton grass plants - should help to stabilise some of the peat, hopefully.
What surprised me was that after the first dozen or so runners followed the paved path from Kinder Low round to Edale Cross, almost everybody else came across the rough peat, heather & bilberry (apart from a couple of runners who tried to go straight down Kinder Low End - Slippery Stones?, not sure, now). There is no question that the racing line is to stick to the paved path; even in the wet it is very fast.
a good day out 2h45m of fun in the sun :)
Yes thanks for the drink Geoff....much appreciated
could have been me...not sure as most of the race was a bit hazy....lessons learnt:
A, dont drive up to the lakes on friday afternoon to support the first leg of the BG, and then drive straight home afterwards
B, dont then expect to run ok at the kinder trog on sunday....you are not an elite runner :mad:
many thanks as always to all helpers with the race...loved the cheese butties
I ache this morning :(
Might be my fault that Geoff. Adam (Breaks) was the lad with me, so he trusted my route over the top (the fool!), and then the rest followed. Helen went the rough route and said it was quick. I guess I used the slabs because I knew they were there and got me to the right of Swines Back.
The slabs up to Mill Hill were awful yesterday: slipping all over the place. Took a stumble on a small descent, so am nursing a sore knee today.
No, I thought that you went the correct way, Phil. I'm sure it's faster the way you went along the slabs, rather than Helen's route (although who am I to argue with Helen's ace navigation skills?). Maybe the rough route simply suits some people better than others.
Well done for winning, by the way - you were obviously feeling a bit better than last year, when some numpty from Pennine beat you!! (I don't have many good days, so when they do come along it's easy to remember them).
Provisional Results are posted at www.cs.man.ac.uk/temples-bin/hc.pl?a=list&d=hc&f=kinder-trog-2007

Looks like you were enjoying yourself too much there Andy - good smile!!!
Very good pictures and great descriptions lots of time and effort gone into that well done
I chopped it down in image software.
PM me your email adress and Ill do it for you,
it needs to be 19kb so it needs shrinking.
Thanks Socks,
Had hoped for shutter failure.. well with less than half a mile to go, adrenaline smoothing away the pain..... I could smell & taste that first post race pint in the Royal.....
although I did find it quite struggle this year, the atmospheric conditions were some of the very very best, stunning misty vistas all round the course.. with Skylarks trilling on the wing as we trudged up Brown Knoll and mournful Curlew in the Upper Sett.. a day to remember.... and next year I might even be fit too.... hmmmmm some things never change!
Nice blood stained vest on my piccy !!
Not impressed. Piccies of everybody (including my Sister, sorry, Wife) except me. I WANT A PICTURE!!!!{stomping loudly}
Well you should slow down a bit. What do you expect, running that fast?
Anyone up for 2008, should be putting my entry in tomorrow. Sounds a great route
