Have you done it before Merrylegs?
Same here.
Went for a potter round the southern loop from the Holme moss mast. Ended up having to don full-body cover - in June!! It crosses some bleak country and the lines in places are not obvious. It will be a very condition dependant race - especially if the clag is down...
i'll be there, staggering about black hill like a fool
This race is now a possibility for Sunday. More my thing than the Bollington race.
I'm not likely to be doing it "flat out" if I make it. Just making most of chance to get three hours or so in on the hills.
It is a good tough race. Done it in scorching hot conditions and also wet and windy conditions.
Can't make it this year, on hols,West coast of Ireland. No running just lots of walking ( AND Guinness ;) )
Hi Crowhill, I have been in the Quays pub in Galway, very nice it was.
We are going to be around the Dingle peninsula this time. Having a climb up Mt. Brandon which I believe is the highest one in the area.
You and Mrs Crowhill doing Holme Moss ?? it is a counter this year.
Any luck with a number for Borrowdale yet ??
Get into the bars in Dingle town, its like going back 50 years. Theres one that will make you think of the 2 Ronnies "I want some O's" or "4 candles".
O'Flaherties on the quay is a good one for Irish music.
Try and get out onto the Blaskets (most westerly point of the British Isles) as well, definitley worth a trip.
A couple of books to read about the Blaskets are "Peig" and "The Island Man". Books written about folk who lived on Great Blasket up to the 1950's.
Hi Plumbum, last time we were there we went to the Blasket info centre/museum. It was very good. we couldnt get over to the islands, bad weather, but will try and get over this time.
Just got hold of a copy of Ryans Daughter which was filmed on the Peninsula.
We are staying b/b at 'The Dingle Pub' :D
Anyone know if there are drink drop offs (like at 3P) or good watering holes along the way?
http://www.holmfirthharriers.com/INFHolmeMoss.htm - drink station listed in course
Fell grand prix race for us, so i'll be there.
Sounds like a good race by all accounts.
Looks like a fig 8 with the one half quite similar to the recent Crowden horseshoe course, ascending black hill on tother side of the stream to begin with. Think I'll be looking to do about 3hr45 if I don't get lost, probably stalking someone who knows where they are going
It's a much longer race this year and the finish will be much harder
back up to Cartworth Moor cricket club after descending from Holme Moss!
Will I be able to get hold of a map on the day?
There's a route map on the website to download and print - don't know if the organisers will allow this for navigation on the day though?
I hope so as that's what I intended using !! Though I'll have my OL1 with in case.
Phew...
That turned into a bit of a grueller. How was it for you?
Many thanks to Holmfirth Harriers, the organisers, the marshalls and what a great spot to base the race - must be the highest cricket pitch in Yorkshire!
Well organised, they even laid on extra water at checkpoints for us sweating, hot and very bothered runners (well, I ran some of the time!). We had it bad both ways really, clear skies and sun with very heavy going underfoot. Still, I suppose it beats getting the compass out...
Right, these dogs need a good walk now having been in all day...
Thanks to Holmfirth Harriers for a well organised event. Somehow you arranged for summer to return so it was pleasant to sit about chatting to mates after the race. I did not appreciate the heat while running but the water at the various checkpoints was most welcome. It certainly felt a long way back to the finish.
thanks to all that gave their time to help organise the race, that was bloody hard and long, glad to get round in 3 hours 13 minutes, now for borrowdale
Just 10 minutes behind you Fleeter, Kentmere, Snowdon and THEN Borrowdale...:D
Yeah, thanks Holmfirth Harriers, good nosh after as well. Very nice marshals too, especially the one who said to me "That bloke in front is twice your age" That makes me look 31 and a half, or Graham Breeze looks 86:eek: Think me and Graham will go with the first assumption:D
Good, tough race, enjoyed it and managed not to get run over by the trials bikes:cool:
Yes, I second all those comments about the Holme Moss fellrace. Thanks to all the organisers, marshalls and helpers who made it such a superb event.
Hopefully I'll be back next year.
Crikey that was a hard race . Holmfirth put on cracking show, £5 including a T-shirt, big butty, cake and infinite cups of tea! Was very pleased with a mid-pack finish. Measured it at 17.1 miles. What about Disco Stan finishing 10th!
Congratulations to the organisers, marshals, caterers, helpers. A great event.

Race photos at Flaming Photography. More to follow tomorrow [600+ to go though]
I agree, great race - well marshalled and all the water stations were much appreciated! :)
If the big ones borrowdale, count me in.
Got the Swiss alpine marathon to do the week before as a warm up.
My legs will fall off.
That was a hard race today.
Very well organised and well worth the rossy lot doing it.
Prizes galore.
what a well organised and well marshalled race, cheap as well.
:eek::eek:
I wish I'd felt a lot better on the day and been able to last the course. I dropped out early on, I almost certainly wouldn't have started if this was a local race but as I was up in the area I decided to start and see how I went.
