Illness, injury, car crashes, fixture clashes mean teams have dropped out. Personally I think the distance has been a factor.
But once a good runner drops out, I thin others drop out and it snow balls.
I find it annoying too. I've got our blokes team out but many people have just moaned about not being told/organised, yet have done eff all themselves..
i think the travel will be a factor. As I said it snowballs, one drops out, another say's 'well I'm not running now', others do the same, then someone says 'well I've got a niggly injury if we've a weak team I won't risk it'..and it just snowballs..Quote:

I can see from the Leg 1 description, and reading this thread (and a little birdy!), that Leg 1 is going to have some additional flagging.
I am sure that I am not alone with such an event, in pouring over maps, using Google Earth etc and the info gained from recces to prepare for the race.
Although we have to adapt to the situation on the day, it would come as a surprise to some to find additional mandatory CPs or flagged areas.
Let's have some clag down, Swoop are you doing the Nav leg, I am with Dave from Kettlewell, see up there and I will go for 118 teams.
We are leaving tonight, staying in the house of one of our team mates mother in Cockermouth. We will be recce-ing tomorrow, so maybe there is scope to meet up?Quote:

I'd be keen to see the relays revert to 3 normal/flagged routes, with just the 1 navigation leg. I know the routes were put up on the website, but every team has the luxury of getting up to the Lake District to see where the best routes lie. As it looks, there's 4 navigation legs, with those teams living closest having the most advantage.

I'll be updating the SportIdent site tonight with all of the teams that have emailed me saying that they are dropping out. I haven't counted how many, I've just dumped the emails into a separate folder. But up until Wednesday I had 158 entered and 2 invites out to teams on the waiting list.Quote:

Whilst I'm at it here's a piccy taken today from the event field looking towards Knock Murton. As you can see you'll get a fantastic view of the leg 2 & 4 runners coming in (as long as the cloud doesn't get too low:eek:). Note that this isn't the parking area.

Leg 4 it says its flagged from the track to the top of knock murton - which track? as I get that grid ref to be right in the middle of the forest, so if i find myslef in the wrong place or on the wrong track can I just get up knock murton from any direction or must I find this flagged section even though it isnt a checkpoint.

TBH there is very little difference in the alternative approaches up Knock Murton coming from this direction, and I think the main reason for the flagging was to ensure we didn't lose people in the woods:eek:, and to direct everyone to the one stile along the fence at the top of the tree line.

If I am on Leg 1 and get to CP3 - then I make the bizarre decision to go to Lamplugh down the track, and make my way back to the Start/Finish area via the road - would I be DQd for missing the flags?

I won't comment on your first statement ;), and given that I'm not in charge of flagging, the courses or marshalling I'm hesitant to comment on the second. However, I have stayed awake in all of the committee meetings :) so I know what the intend has been on this and to me mandatory means mandatory so delibrately missing the flags as you suggest (which can only be delibrate for leg 1) would get you and your team DQd.Quote:
