I can see from the Leg 1 description, and reading this thread (and a little birdy!), that Leg 1 is going to have some additional flagging.

I am sure that I am not alone with such an event, in pouring over maps, using Google Earth etc and the info gained from recces to prepare for the race.

Although we have to adapt to the situation on the day, it would come as a surprise to some to find additional mandatory CPs or flagged areas.
I'll try to get the website updated today for anyone that intends to reccie this route tomorrow. However, the only change from the CFR website and the maps is that the mandatory flagged section goes all the way from checkpoint 3 to 099189, and the route takes you to the east of Cogra moss (on the lower track). This may already be flagged if you're having a look tomorrow, the team have been down at the event field today sorting the place out.

Also please note that the layout of the changeover area has changed a bit. The instructions have not changed. Again I hope to get that up on the website soon - all depends whether the website administrator is out reccying or not.

I'll be updating the SportIdent site tonight with all of the teams that have emailed me saying that they are dropping out. I haven't counted how many, I've just dumped the emails into a separate folder. But up until Wednesday I had 158 entered and 2 invites out to teams on the waiting list.

Anyone who hasn't entered their runners names yet (or emailed me with them - but this is a last resort if you can't get onto SportIdent) please do so asap, SportIdent will be down loading the lists first thing tomorrow morning (and the system will lock you out at midnight tonight).

Whilst I'm at it here's a piccy taken today from the event field looking towards Knock Murton. As you can see you'll get a fantastic view of the leg 2 & 4 runners coming in (as long as the cloud doesn't get too low). Note that this isn't the parking area.

did someone mention mandatory flagging - I'm sure i'll be able to manage that!! -

no but seriuosly - do you have to follow the flags

Leg 4 it says its flagged from the track to the top of knock murton - which track? as I get that grid ref to be right in the middle of the forest, so if i find myslef in the wrong place or on the wrong track can I just get up knock murton from any direction or must I find this flagged section even though it isnt a checkpoint.

hope someone can answer this..... thanks

    Good Question!

The Checkpoints should be the mandatory controls - are you DQ'd for missing a flagged section even if you make it through all the CPs correctly?

If so, shouldn't the start of a flagged section also be a CP?

I've noticed on the SiEntries that Helsby are down as to be confirmed. I do know we have an open team for the day. Are names required before midnight tonight?
