Very wet and slippy
Timo needed 14 stitches in a nasty gash on his leg - get well soon big boy!!
I don't want to be a wet blanket, but Jo Waites told me that she pointed out to that young girl Melanie Hyder (Helm Hill) before the start - [and she is very young] that she didn't have a bum bag or anything, when we had been told to carry a cag.
The lasse's dad tied a cag round her waist and away we went.
I noticed a pink cag on the road as we jogged up the hill, and one or two folk remarked that she threw it on the floor after we'd set off.
It wasn't a very nice day weatherwise.
Even an experienced runner like Tim had a bad accident. It's a long way down that hill in the cold when your crocked.
Kids eh ?
But did you fall backwards onto the bumbag you werre wearing and squash your...

Seriously, Timo, hope ur ok mate....
AG
well I heard that Tim slipped on a discarded bum bag!(Joke btw)
Thanks to Dan, Simon, John, Matt, Michelle and all the others from Ambleside who organised and marshalled at yesterday's race. It can't have been much fun for the summit marshalls. Mel Hyder was in the shop after the race trying on bum bags, so she'll be fully kitted out next time I think.:)
Is it on again next year??!!

Have fun...........sadly some of us are working tomorrow, so I'll just have to wait for another chance to hide my expanding waistline!
Lovely chill and clear for today's race. Thanks to all at Ambleside for putting the race on. I've only ever been up Wansfell for the race. I must stop for the view one day; I bet it was lovely up there today. I was too busy gasping for air.
Results:
Rob Hope
Tom Addison
Danny Hope

Alastair Hope-Addison (sorry, Dunn)
at least 3 more Addisons followed shortly after. They're taking over completely!
What happened to the Noor? Your start was good and so was your cheering. What about the middle bit?
Cracking race, first time for me.
i heard the leader got down in just over 6 minutes, that's amazing considering how icy under foot it was.
Well done all.
My powers are psychic ~ the orgainser said it was a record turnout of 107 runners.
Fantastic race, with great views from the top (I managed a split second look around before hurtling back down).
Cheers for the coffee & mince pies at the presentation in Lakes Runner.
See you all next year.
Report & results now up at http://www.amblesideac.org.uk/wansfell08_results.htm
Unfortunately no photos yet
That's an impressive time to the top for Rob. I'm sure the record could have been on if he'd only realised and not jogged down.
A week away today so no reason not to get a thread started, seems like an excellent way of escaping the drudgery of christmas at my house, flying down the side of a snowy mountain by the seat of my tracksters. Not sure on shoe choice, frozen ground might be requiring a more cushioned shoe, think i'll take the Walshes and the MT840s and do a little recce beforehand. Might also treat myself to a Kamleika smock while i'm in Ambleside, Merry's testimony at XOTF has cemented my decision. ;)

the Lakes Runner shop and cafe in Ambleside after the race.
I did the jnr english champs race there earlier in the year and really loved it much better than the normal fras, its a fantastic race the descent is really steep and rocky, i think this race starts with a short steep road section though. When we did the english champs race we had the pleasure of summiting it twice! once the top was reached we looped over rough ground to the wood bridge and meet the summit again. I think you'd be best off with walshs as its steep ;)
Just a quick question for somebody from Ambleside - whats Stockghyll Lane like for driving up - will we get up to the car park/registration or are we going to have to park in town and walk/jog up??
Merry Xmas everybody!!!!
I'll get Stockghyll Lane checked out today and let people know on here. I would very much suspect it will be undrivable and that people will have to park in town. If this is the case then registration wil be in Lakes Runner shop/cafe and the race route will be unchanged - starts in town, finishes at Kelsick. If this happens, will also put the start back to 12.15 so people can get sorted....watch this space!
