Barley has a fairly large car park but it does get very crowded (and full) on race day yes, plenty of walkers and such will still be out in force and you may be reduced to parking on the surrounding roads.

Another point actually, is that on the entry form it says at 10.30am.
Now is that the race start time, or get there for 10.30am?
yeah hursty I always leave plenty of time for all that - but some races need PLENTY of time (e.g., Anni Waltz this year - I walked there but the roads were mayhem)
well with my current level of fitness hoping to break 5 hours (that is if I am unfortunate enough to beat 2 hours at checkpoint 4 and am forced to continue)
could go from second from last 2008 to last in 2009
hmm better take a head torch just in case
Reet, am in. Sent my entry off today.
Not quite sure what I've let myself in for reading back on some of the posts
I'll listen out for the melifluous tones of the geordie tongue:)
I'll be wearing a pink carnation in my hair!:D:rolleyes:
No, beginning to lose what little's left.
Actually, dunno if it's been discussed before, but is there a way of identifying forumites in a big crowd of fell-runners? A masonic handshake? A slightly off-beat walk? The security chip round the ankles?
Looks like there'll be a strong forum presence, be good to meet the folk behind the waffle!:p
Great stuff! Can't wait to see what time you get on the back of a 'gentle run'!
I'll look out for you OG. I'll be in light blue running shorts with orange cag and bumbag. (This isn't as a result of a concerted wardrobe planning session: it's all I've got clean at the moment!:p)
this is going to be fun - haven't run in three weeks and clogged up with a cold: did someone mention sitting in the pub instead?
(puts on ould feller's voice) 'don't talk to me about bloody 'amstrings!'
The curse has taken me too!
I'm back to aiming to finish uninjured. Bit of an ITB niggle in me knee earlier this week now quite sore following last night's 'timed training run' over Pendle.
I'm in a hotel in B'ham tonight and I'm checking in with my foam roller and scaffolding pole for a major stretching session!:D;)
let's forget the running and go straight to the 'why I didn't get round as quickly as I should have' pub post-mortem
That's tough luck Gary. As frustrating as it is I wouldn't risk it on a long hard run like the FTOP if I was you but if you do then at least the race has a handy retirement spot at the bottom of Geronimo if it is giving you a problem during the run. I will decide tomorrow on my own participation.
I have an ould feller's voice already Zoot, it goes with the body :(:D
Now you are talking! :D
Swap pre-mortem for post-mortem and I think we're there, aren't we? :D
Alf, I won't make the same mistake as last year, and if I need to duck out early I will, discretion being the better part of valour and all that. I know all the exit routes. I could always wander up to the trig if needs be, cheer everyone ellse on.
Just to get you in the mood for Saturday:

Cheers big guy. Fingers crossed!;)
it's gonna be hoying it down according to the forecast
Yep, that won't be the main problem really I don't think.
The strong wind that is here at the minute will make it very tough. I was out walking the dogs this morning and it was bloody hard trying to walk into the wind!!
Not sure how long the wind is staying for!

If conditions are not overly adverse I am hoping to be on the climb up to Spence moor trying out my on loan Nikon D300 seeing as my calf is stuffed and I will not be racing over at Bingley.
Just a mere pimple pal, lovely pics mate.
Can't say that there hill will look as good from the bottom of the last climb on saturday:D
Gradually recovering from my adductor strain and managed almost an hour's slow run last night. My current aim is to come along, as I've pre-entered anyway. Depending on how it feels over the next 24-36 hours, I'll start at gentle jog pace, walk a bit, ease off, and then retire at an appropriate place. (Stagger would probably comment that that's indistinguishable from my normal race strategy:D.) I'd be delighted to get to CP4 relatively intact.
The one good thing about Pendle is that you're never much more than 3 miles from your car (although admittedly there's probably a big hill in the way.) That means it's not quite as bad as many races if a niggle does flare up.
That is what happened to me the other week. Went arse over tit right at the bottom of hill which is the 2nd of the big 3 on the latter half of the tour (CP7).
I had to laugh, couldn't have happened at a worse place for getting back to Barley, a very nice hobble back to the car
