Unfortunately I was a DNF today. I was feeling hypothermic and lightheaded (despite sugar fix - maybe effects of the cold or the chest infection) between Ribblehead and Horton, and I decided I'd rather not die on Penyghent so called it a day. Well done to all that completed.
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. What an iconic event and the atrocious conditions only made it more satisfying. Despite warming up I was still taken aback by the speed of the start and then the scene going up Simon Fell with 600 riders shouldering bikes was epic.
I'd heard about Nicola Davies' technique of balancing the bike on your back and using all-fours for traction and it works!
The weather on the tops was really bad, particularly on Whernside where it threatened to send you down the steep side. The descent from there was well worth recce'ing to make ground and avoid punctures then the atmosphere at Ribblehead was a real lift.
The whole event was really well organised and despite missing my sub 5hr target by 7 mins I was chuffed to get in the top half (just) at first attempt. Looking forward to next year already.
ps definitely pad your tubes even if it does look naff.
Struggled all day, bad pains in achillies / calves on Simon Fell, felt like jacking there.
Whernside was brutal and brought on knee pain trying to run instead of riding, crossing the 2nd stream at the bottom when the rear mech took a dive into the spokes, luckily going slowly enough not to break any pulled it free but that only left me 2 gears luckily easy ones.
P-Y-G was orrible saw a young lad coming down at breakneck speed when he lost it big style...looked like a Moto GP riding going high side I though he was going to clear the stone wall!
Top of P-Y-G was hideous weather stinging rain and very high winds, the puddle at the bottom covered my wheels completely then submerged the bottom bearing of the headset before washing my top tube, more a drowning hazard than a puddle.
5hr 11mins 310th
Should've done better 1st time though.
s'posed to be cross racing in Scunthorpe this Thursday...
Oh and people with 80mm deep section wheels what were you thinking, it must have been like carrying a kite up there?
...and the first lady. (In her first attempt at the race.)

Bloody hard work out supporting today!
In my fatigued / 1 beer down state I forgot to say many thanks to John Rawnsley for all he's done for the race, and to all the people manning and womaning the checkpoints plus all the encouragement from 100's of supporters.
Apparently 50 MPH winds on P-Y-G today http://www.grough.co.uk/magazine/201...n-for-rob-jebb
Well done one and all whether you finished or not, thanks to John Rawnsley and all his team, great day out. 5.11 is a good time in them conditions Rich C, well done:thumbup:
Hope the bloke in front of me turning right into the finish and the spectators he hit are ok, looked a nasty collision!
Slowest time so far for me 4:39. Truly epic conditions. Bloody fantastic!
How to mount a cross bike!

Great Pics' Dom....!
& Fantastically Well Done Rob!!!
(plus - great to see so many good pals doing so well on such a tough day - well done Nick, Fred Gus, Brox & Co'!!)
Absolutely cracking picture Ady! :)
And the best thing of today was your powerhug!
Alas, it didn't work as well as you thought... I got timed out at Horton, missed the cut off by a few minutes, even though some very kind gentleman towed me all the way from Ribblehead in an attempt to make it!
We then rode to the finish together and confusion there meant that we got ushered through the finish funnel, despite our protestations. I am sure the results will be amended soon, as I missed out a whole peak :w00t:
Very very tough conditions... I found it extremely difficult to cope with the wind, continuous lashing rain and very poor visibility. I often could not ride, as the winds were so high I was being blown off my bike. In places I literally had to anchor myself to the ground with my bike...
Thing is, this was going to be my last 3 Peaks and now I have to do it again...
Bad luck Hann, that wind was pretty bad, in fact it was horrendous at times, good to see you and Dom today though:thumbup:
yes, good to see you too MerrySteve :)
I had to 'stay low' quite a bit not to be blown over and had quite a few hairraising moments... I went over a style with the bike on my shoulder and the bike got caught like a sail and it pulled me over the style, head first... I let go off the bike, it flew away :w00t: and landed several metres further in the mud... I just about managed to get over the style, but was holding onto the top of it when a bloke came up behind me really anxious I was going to take off as well :-O
The blokes helping us over rawnsley's leap? He had to really hold onto me so that I didn't take off... Had the bike flapping in the wind severela times. Must work on my weight ;)

Well Done Jebby! How does he stay so clean?
He has his team to wipe him down at every pit stop ;-)
Well done Jebby, great achievement.
Thanks and well done to all esp all the fantastic helpers and John for organising. An epic day out and how come Jebby was only a couple of minutes down yet I was about 40 minutes down grrrrrrr!
Did appreciate the chap helping us and out bikes over that style, and it was great and very motivational seeing all the fabbo supporters en route esp at Ribblehead, thx.
Phew that was one tough day at the office. Almost 40 minutes down on 4 years ago, and I thought conditions were horrendous. For me I finished which under the circumstances was an achievement as I constantly had the gremlins in my ear telling me to throw the towel in, grrrrr, first time I've heard those since Etape du Tour 2007! Wind was that bad that it nearly blew me and me bike off balance a few times. Ingleborough summit was very very wet and windy as was Whernside, and on Penyghent I did feel my body temp starting to plunge, good job not long after I descended from the summit. 5h27 of constant rain and wind. I had nothing left for the last few miles on the road until as lass shouted c'mon lads well done.....lads, lads, who the f was getting a free ride sat behind me and hiding from the wind, grrrrr, not amused. So much so that I did him for a 1 second sprint finish apols/yay!
Moi, competitive ;-)
5h16 for me, brutal brutal brutal. My vision was going a bit at the end from being lashed so long, or some grit or something. I wasn't crying honest. yfrog.com/nwgvdfuj
Other highlights being pushed towards falling the long way by a sudden gust, just after the Whernside top. Several crashes, all nice soft landings. Feel like I've been through a tumble drier this morning! Some fast times out there despite the conditions - maybe it was dry for those at the front :)
Before the full horror kicked in

Rob Jebb on the ascent to Hill Inn
My vision went as well at times Idler. It is crap at the best of times and wearing glasses that kept steaming up and got covered in fog.rain wasn't helping nor did the tears streaming down my face from being lashed with wind and rain all the time... I really need to look at some sort of a solution. Tried contact in the past but don't get on with them :(
Oh boo! Well, last years will have to do till next year, if there will be a next year? I heard rumours of John Rawnsley retiring and it not being at all certain he has a replacement???? Makes me even more pleased I went up, started and tried to make it round... even though I was being extremely cautious in those conditions, not to get blown over and land on my recently dislocated shoulder again...
wow i feel like i've been in a war! managed to stumble up to the presentation (out of nice warm van where i had been defrosting my feet) in time to get a prize for being 20th lady :-D
cheered me right up 5:45 being some way off my aspirational 5:00hrs.
truly thought i was going to be blown off the vertical slopes of whernside! had to jog/walk nearly the whole way down. was beginning to suspect there was actually no such place as ribblehead (funnily enough i had a similar feeling on pen y ghent when i was beginning to suspect that there wasn't actually a summit)
it was dave weatherhead and barbara helping us over the stile of doom on simon's fell - big thanks to them and anyone out on the course!
think i might retire from cyclocross now...
Well that was epic ! thought i would have got under 5 hours this year but having spent thursday friday trying to sweat out a cold with the help of a bottle of nightnurse and a dodgy rear mech on th day
just managed 6.33! but all fun ! a big thanks to those marshals and helpers on the check points& on the summits especially great stuff cant wait till next year:w00t:
For those who were there, were my Helwith Bridge Duathlon signs at the Pub still there?
thanks guys! yes Norton Wheelers :-D
I warned him to stay left, but did he listen.......................
