Nice new Avatar IDP :)
Yesterday did 7 climbs of the Kinder Dozen, stsrting from Ockerbrook to RR then up and down to fairbrook. Difficult ground then along to Seal Stones due to snow clogging the path, Would have been quicker to go down and up again to SS!!. Across platea to RR and back down to Ocker. 5 hourd 18 mins (quite tiring!). Today walked down to City Ground 1 mile to watch Forest beat Wednesday, totally exhausting!!
10 miles, 1,500ft, followed by 6 reps up and down a 750ft hill
sciatica raging, every time I do a long or hard session. I can seriously barely walk now.
Could be problematic this, in terms of a BG - am just hoping the slower pace of BG recces will aggravate it less than the sort of fast undulating running I'm doing down here.
Tried some tentative jogging today...giving Long Mynd a miss
It is possible! Checked my week's training and after my hill rep's this aft I'd managed 10,341 ft this week!
yeah DT - had an MRI too and it showed I have two herniated discs
I don't think any amount of physio or any other treatment will prevent heavy exercise from messing that up: you can't put the discs back together and if they're pressing on the nerve then you're going to pay for any sort of rough and tumble.
Only reason I managed to do OK round a few ALs last year is that they were far apart and I could target my training and rest loads in between big runs - and I took diclofenac for three days before each race.
The quantity of training that's required for a BG is another kettle of fish though.
Yikes, didn't realise it was that bad Z! :( Wonder if alternate weekends of hard training with perhaps a week or two in the Lakes is the way to go. Good luck! :)
5 road miles hard on friday to test ankle recovery...all o.k(ish)
1 hour walk yesterday
17 mile mixed road and trail today
gym circuits tomorrow
about 8 mile recovery run (can you call 8 miles recovery) slow a steady with about 600ft ascent. didn't really break into a sweat
10(ish?) undulating and very wet XC - lovely :D
6ml / 1300ft up and down Beamsley Beacon. Sadly we don't have a 'knackered' smilie ;)
:D
Stolly, top one looks about right but I suspect you must have seen me eating a bowl of soup when I got back as the middle one is eerily accurate!! :D:o
Lovely run today, Stanage Edge, Banford Edge, Win Hill and Derwent Edge - helping a friend of mine get some elevation into his legs for the Edale Skyline.... 12 miles, 2600' climbing has left me a bit tired (There's my excuse for tomorrow's road race IanDP) and I think Si and Buster (the dog) are more so!
Only bad part of the run was the lack of views, spent most of the time in the clouds, or the fine misty drizzle just below them....
A 2:35 trott round the Mickleden Straddle course. The clag was down, plenty of snow was down and my time was down!
Nice warm down from the Trog. about 10km orienteering race over the scary limestone on Farleton Fell. and then a few more KM to collect some controls in at end of day.
Off to work for a rest tomorrow ha ha
Very gentle 3 miles this morning, still sore lol!
A walk today, from Ribblehead over Whernside via the walkers route then the 3Ps course as far as the the head of the Ingleborough zig-zags, then left, round Simon Fell, over Park Fell and down by the railway cottages, then back to Ribblehead.
Lots of snow and ice around still. The drift on the Whernside ridge is still up to the height of the wall in parts and will freeze hard again this week. The top of the zig-zags is banked out too. Had to sneak up the left on v steep frozen turf.
3 hours 53 (well I did jog some of the downs if only to warm up!)
Iron Gate. 0.8 of a mile less, but on the plus side, less packs of dogs to dodge through the woods near the car park. Saw one or two folk on the way down as they were on the way up, clutching route descriptions. Some MR folk were up too, keeping an eye out for us.Quote:
Was that from Irongate carpark rather than the barn. either way it's not a bad time to say you weren't racing. I wasn't too far away running to Upper Midhope and back
5 hilly road miles - getting back into it after lazy fortnight mostly taken up with moving house. Pleased with how good I felt - the snow runs pre-house move must've done some good:)
Tonights Monday winter series lived up to it's name. very dark with the occasional snow flurry. all the more fun as I was in shorts.
About 7.5 miles with 1000ft of hilly road in 51.07
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/24304153
Last night's run. Not quite as quick as IDP :o
6.3mi, 750ft, 51.20
Followed by 45 burpees (without the handclap).
Got a club headtorcher over Pendle tonight. Can't wait! :)
The great thing about the Monday night series is I always start joint last unless Nick Swift turns up which means I'm always chasing people, this keeps the momentum up. although last night going up thr last hill I couldn't quite catch then the last person but boy did I try:rolleyes:
Another slow 3 miles, that race has really shafted me!
8.5k and 1200' throwing in a few reps on the bottom reservoir embankment near the end. Could feel the Trog in my legs but got up the main climb without walking :D
An easy 5 on Scout Scar above Kendal in dark.
Skipped over rocks, divots etc but then tripped over a semi frozen cow pat n went flying:eek:
150squats (4 x 25 + 50), some stretching and a bit of work on the wobbleboard
Took my mate hill repping with me tonight.
Real good quality session.
Did 15 reps, totallying 6.41 miles, 1315ft in 1hr:00:39. Thats from leaving my house...doing the reps and running home.
Managed to get a max heart beat pb....184...whooooop!
Hit a bad patch at rep 8 but dug deep and kept going....flew up the last rep as if i was racing jebby.:D
Al, what are you running on for your reps? Grass? Tarmac? Good to see you're training regularly! How're the knees coping? :)
Well, Exactly 1.61 miles from my house there is a field with a big hill in it. Its all grass and its quite muddy (its firm on the actual climb)
I do a loop....run to the top, turn right and run along the top for about 20 paces and then descend back down...run along the bottom for 20 paces and then back up again.
I'll have to get a picture of it in the daylight.
Heres the run...http://connect.garmin.com/activity/24340176
The figures are abit random....i hit the lap button at the bottom of each loop...but it gives me big differences in climb per lap:confused:
Knees ok touch wood, abit tight but nothing major.:)
15 x ballbusting stair reps - about 140 ft each
I'm coming to like them.
And I never thought I'd say that about running up and down the stairwell of a seven-storey office building for 40 mins.
12m/2335ft heavy snow at one point then bright, blue sunshine, foot still hurting a bit but seems a lot better, ibuprofen;)
