ITV4 tonight 19.00 - 20.00 from Southport.
30 miles for me tonight
Home-Brindle-Wheelton-Chorley-Limbrick-Rivington-Anglezarke-White Coppice-Wheelton-Higher Wheelton-Brinscall-Withnell-Abbey Village-Riley Green-Hoghton-Samlesbury-Hoghton-Home.
Cracking route with lots of climbs to give me legs a good work out.
Really enjoyed it and love my bike even more.
Growing in confidence on the downs and fast corners but still sh*t myself every once in a while.:o
Pretty rubbish time at 1:50 but its my version of a mountain stage of the
giro d'italia.:D
Nearly hit the deck on one ridiculously steep climb leaving anglezarke, i didnt get into the bottom gear quick enough and had to power the pedals to keep moving, i somehow did a huge wheelie and with the gradient of the hill i started to roll backwards on the back wheel....somehow managed to save it and stay upright...had to shoulder barge a fence to point myself in the right direction.;)
Crackin ride!:D
Ive been on abike for the first time in 2 months or so. Only 11 miles but very enjoyable with a burger stop halfway round
Managed work & back just under 20 each way. 65mins there, 75 back.
Doc said no running so I need to get more biking in.
about to do the "Golden Valley Brevet" from Brecon, and slightly relieved I never entered the Dragon Ride which is also today. Not sure what distance to attempt - 100km, 160 or 200km. Actually I'm totally sure I don't want to do 200! Never cycled more than about 50 miles before...
How did your time trial go Hanneke? Any carrot on the shoes?
and I wish I knew what a "brevet" was!
Just a steady 9 mile loop with son on our road bikes:)
Good quality time together:)
It's more or less the same as an Audax with subtle differences in the way the ride is ridden (contolled v free (historically)). More commonly in the UK we seem to have 'sportives' which are sort of competative distance rides. There are some lovely French terms in respect to cycling that don't get translated across to English which makes for some confusion with cycling newbies.
Derailleur
Commissaire
Soigner
Prime
Peloton
Musette
Hors Categorie
Domestique
Palmares
Yes, funny that...
I don't understand the audax/sprotive type stuff at all... and am doing my own tomorrow.
Just been out on the TT bke, which has had a service and it's headset sorted... I also have a new saddle to try for it...
Saddle works a treat, as 60 kms later I have no problem... but disappointed in my 10m TT time that was incoporated in this ride though. I fell asleep last night, when I came home and thought to have a quick 10 minute nap before heading for the TT... woke up at 11.30!!!! Must have needed it...
So 20 kms in my ride I end up on the 10m TT course and rode that at a decent tempo pace I thought. I found myself slacking at some stage and have no idea how long that had been going on for, as I sort of fell asleep on the bike, while pedalling down the dual carriageway ... Gawd, TT-ing is boring! :( Just checked and my split time for the 10m was 28.48 :( I seem to be going backwards, as I rode an unofficfial 10m TT before, same thing, timing myself, and did 26.43...
Anyways, roll on tomorrow's ride, long and slow :D
Turns out a "brevet" is an extremely slow ride with loads of really ancient grizzly guys with beautiful steel bikes! I kept leaving them all behind by accident then waiting, until my last "good" knee went bad after about 30 miles. I tempted fate a couple of days ago saying cycling was a doddle! Bloody agony, and couldn't push on it at all, which made for an interesting ascent of Llangynydr mountain. Scoffing ibuprofen didn't help. Felt like someone had hit the inner side of the knee with a hammer. So jacked it in and crawled 15 miles back to Brecon. Merde (french cycling term), I guess I need to find another sport, encore un fois.
Oh dear, Crispin :(
Are you sure your bike is setup properly? Besides, Llangynidr Mountain is no mean feat!!!
Done another 18 m this afternoon.
Got stung by a wasp on the chest. Teach me not to zip up:o
specially when only pushing with one leg and making whimpering sounds! But the incentive was the cake stop at the top. And the descent down to Llangattock was fab - 47 mph!
I have no idea if my bike is set up right, to be honest. What could cause a knee to go bad suddenly? The agony is focussed on a very small area on upper side of the bony bit on inside of knee. Walking on flat no pain, up/down stairs bad news, pushing bike pedal bloody agony. I've been wearing mountain bike SPDs, and I wonder if my saddle might be a bit high?
Possibly... I can have a look at it for you, let's see if we can meet up for a ride this week... Are you free on Monday eve? In the meantime, ice it....
I don't think I'll be riding any time soon - v depressed....
Unlike running, I have been injury free cycling - apart from the crashes where you can't walk properly for a few days but then you are back on it. Respect to the big boys who you see on TV getting stitched up by the team doctor whilst they are still on their bikes!!
That is awful, I am so sorry... we got to sort that out... are you home anyway on Monday eve? We can have a look at the knee and the bike... often your cleat position is the culprit with knee problems. Sounds like a bit of tendonitis of the tendon that attaches the vastus medialis to your knee, to put things simply...
65 miles hilly/rolling (105 Kms, for our Orange friend).
Keighley, Connolley, Gargrave, Malham, Arncliffe, Threshfield, Burnsall, Bolton Abbey, Skipton, home.
Steady pace 4 hrs.
didn't bother with the 10 open TT I had planned today, as am going to concentrate on Cross which I can't do very well. Am doing some local ones very slowly, hope to get into the low 23's by the end of the season, currently done 2 in so so conditions and best is 24.04 (which is crap).
Good news is sport clinic says I can start running again slowly (been doing that anyway) and start short races soon.
A little under 200 kms, in 7 hours with 2185 metres of ascending. NICE :)
Went trough 100 miles in a few seconds under 6 hours. Very pleased, especially as my longest ride ever was 108 kms and that was a LONG time ago, when I had only just started cycling in December...
Question is, can I do this four days in a row?
Thanks Daz... :)
Must say that I was thinking about your suggestion of a 12 hour race, while in the final stages of the ride. I think I am stronger on the endurance stuff than on the short, sharp stuff, like those women's national series races...
Trying my hand at a vets only race though next weekend, 2 day stage race. Should be interesting. I have been told it would suit me better, as it starts at a reasonable pace, then speeds up, which suits me as I need time to get into things, even after a decent warmup. The races I have done so far, with people that could be my children  start off way too fast and I find it hard to hang on in the beginning and end up mid-field :(
Of course she can daz, but she needs to work on her sprint finish a bit. ;)

45 miles for me today.
And it did not help I had such a crap pacer for my last 45 miles today... For some peculiar reason, he kept riding behind me... ;)
Night daz, I am off too... remarkable how tired one gets from sitting on one's @rse all day ;)
AAAAAAAARGH!
Photographic evidence of my neglectful behaviour towards my poor x-bike
Well done Hann, impressive effort!
As for me on Dragon Ride duty, that was very hard, very hard. very hot day and a head wind all the way home!
Hit 100 miles/3,000m at about 6hrs 38mins, so just slipping under Cav's time!! A bit pooped but still climbing strongly and all seemed ok until after a pretty hectic 15 mins of descending including a difficult time over a cattle grid at 35mph:eek: Then everything fell apart, think my vestibular system got addled on the rough bits and my eyes just wouldn't focus, thought I was going to fall off throw up or both:eek: So I had to stop for a little sit down with only another 12 miles to go, going downhill and on familiar territory, aargh! Resuscitated by a marmite sandwich and a drink I managed to get going again at a steady survival grimble. Went past one rider who lost it on a difficult bend and hit a car, he seemed ok though the car driver was pretty distraught!
So all I need to do now is repeat the 100miles+ and 3,000m climbing on 4 successive days and that will be Tour de Galles:eek::cool:
Excellent Dragon riding there Toff! Apart from that last bit... did you take in enough salts? I have found the delight of Taut energy drink with added salts, as well as shot blocks with electrolites. It does help on a hot day!
Oh, you did:cool:
Lol, yeah, I spotted the typo :D
