all this carb loading is nonsense. just get yourself to nevissports for a mountaineers breakfast.
Do you have to carb' load for a 2 hour run?

On Friday I ran up Ben Nevis with Stolly having eaten a very nice bean burrito at the Grog and Gruel the night before washed down with a pint of local ale and two taliskers, I might do the same if I get into the race next year :)
Carb loading isn't necessary for a two hour run. The body stores around 2 hours worth of glycogen in the muscles anyhow.
Filling your face the night before won't have any effect either apart from making you feel like crap. Carb loading usually takes place over the course of a few days leading up to a race.
This is a stupid question but: is the start easy to find/get to from the train station?
Grog and Gruel on the main street do good food and beer! http://www.grogandgruel.co.uk/
The Grog and Gruel and the Italian mentioned would be my choice, in that order. The owner of the Grog and Gruel has run the Ben a few times.

Getting ready to travel now. Should be a good weekend.
Good luck to all making the journey to Fort William.
Am i right in thinking i wont require a map? Been searching through the ben Nevis race website and it doesn't say anything about a map being required. Can anyone confirm? Cheers.
No map or compass rqd. Just full body cover, whistle and race card.
Out of interest, do runners typically go up the zig zags (apart from the big first one where the short route to where the burn crosses the main track is presumably taken?) and descend via 'route one' or do some go up route one too? There don't appear to be any route rules on the web site.
I'm not in this year's race but ran the route last week and now feel inspired to enter next year
Stolly
No zigging or zagging. Straight up and down same route, there or there abouts.
Good luck to all those up there this weekend
Hope to be there next year also.
Yorkshireman for me this weekend !!
Full one for me Alf
Are you up for this one?
Conditions looking OK
Good luck every one. try to come pack in one piece with no cuts bruises hurt pride, I know that sounds a bit far fetched but enjoy...there is always another race. :D
What a cracking day yesterday for the race. Thanks to all the organising committee on another first class event.
Finley took his 4th win on the trot and Holmesy took a Connochie Plaque along with 4th and 1st vet. Angela Mudge was 1st Lady.
Very well done to Fleeter for his 10th place.
Awesome event, what an ascent/descent on the most challenging of terrain. Thanks go to all marshals/organisers and general supporters. Can't wait until next time. :)
Brilliant race as always. Forgotten how tough it is on the road at the end but I did manage to pass quite a few people but the run round the field nearly finished me off.
Good to see you again Mudlugger and very well done!
You hid it very well Stagger. You looked very comfortable running round the finish field

Another beltin Ben Nevis weekend over and done. Thanks to all involved, especially for ordering the nice weather and the technical t-shirt. Took a tumble on the descent not far from the summit, thanks to Keswick's Lee Newton who back tracked to see if I was ok. That's the spirit of fellrunning, we all look out for each other. Thankfully just badly bruised my hands and right leg, pleased with finishing in sub 2hrs.
The usual crack around town after the presentation with plenty of familiar faces enjoying a few well earned drinks. Karen Crabtree was sporting a bandaged knee after receiving stitches. Karen's a tough Yorkshire lass and will be back in no time.
Roll on next year for what is one of the highlights of the year. Special mention to young Sam tosh, finished 2nd in is first Ben race, well done Sam.
Tindersticks, Ben legs are hurting much more than the stitches! hows the hand?
Caren
Brilliant run by Sam Tosh in 2nd place.
What a bloody tough race! My first one and will certainly be my last! Haha. Being injured in the 4 weeks leading up to the race didn't help and a summer of 5k road racing wasnt the best preperation in hindsight.
Got to the summit in I think 23rd place but my descending skills and ravaged legs put me back to 42nd place and my first and last Ben completed in 1.55. What a fantastic event though and I had an absolute great time all weekend. Definitely the most satisfying race I've done.
Hiya Caren, hand pretty swollen but should be reet. Taking full advantage of Alison's offers of assistance, to the point of pissing her off. Sorry love you'll have to drive, make the tea, do the dishes, Hoover, clean up....etc. It's only a matter of time till she snaps and tells me to man up and bloody get on with it!!! Take care, rest the knee and let Paul fetch and carry.
Great day at the Ben Nevis race, weather was kind with clear views at the summit struggled on the descent over the rocks but completed it again for the second time and beat last years time.
My first attempt and thoroughly enjoyed it too. Organisers seemed to have gone to a lot of effort what with pipe band and everything, also loads of support. So anyone thinking of giving a go, do so, just 2 words of advice:
(1) wear something as grippy as possible as you will need it coming down;
(2) don't take the sleeper up, unless you fancy doing it on the back of 3 1/2 hrs sleep:rolleyes:
Given (2), I was quite happy with my 2.34!
an example of how to run a fantastic event. Great organisation, great whiskey and shirt and a medal , certificate and results out printed that night.
I raise my hat and glass to the Ben Nevis Race association!
