I would get on the scales, but as yet I am unaccustomed to balancing myself with this extra holiday weighting.
I'm guessing somewhere in the region of a 1.76545775579865464114568897654899864 tonne weight gain.

Well that is a relief, no weight gain following the season that is Chocolate covered, phew. Race on Sunday so hopefully will have actually lost some weight for next week's weigh in. :D
Can I suggest a more scientific approach by putting our heights down as well, as a weight is meaningless without the height. For most of us, a Body Mass Index calculation is relevant, since runners tend, unlike body builders, to be of a more 'normal' shape. It is likely to be very helpful, given that reference ranges for adult males (20-25) and females (18-23) will be relevant to us all.
Any takers, or am I just creating a bigger problem? Please tell me to shut up if I am.
BTW Dr Pat, put me down as current 81.5, target 77.5, 4kg to go. Regards
SR
6'0'' - it appears I've shrunk about half an inch over the years!
Nah, I'll just add fake height so you all think I'm a skinny racing snakeQuote:
heights down as well
6ft 6 btw
I'm not sure what it would achieve to be honest SR. Everyone has their own personal goals and some will be scientifically worked out and some just an aim to lose a few pounds (that's me!). We each know how tall we are so putting a height on presumably would be so that other people can see if we are chubsters or racing snakes:wink:
I'm definitely a racing snake

For one's own reference BMI is interesting. I had a health check in work recently and my BMI came in a 23.52:
BMI calculated as weight (Kg) dived by Your Height in meters squared e.g.
For me at the moment 77.0kg / square(1.80m) = 23.76
So I'm at the high end of Normal.
So 'say' I would like to get to BMI of 22 since my height will not change that means:
X/square(1.80m) = 22
X= 22 * 3.24
Required Weight for BMI 22 is 71.28 Kg ( And that's not going to happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
For your reference:
Underweight < 18.50
Normal 18.50 --> 24.99
Overweight 25.00 --> 29.99
Something unfortunate may happen 30.00 --> 34.99
High chance of something unfortunate happening : 35.00 --> 39.99
Very high chance of something unfortunate happening : > 40.00
I did weigh myself the other day and was a dissapointing 12st 7lb again!! That was at the regular pre-breakfast, first thing time too!? Oh! Well...buckle down me!!
I'm in melt down. Ale and choc in large amounts and no training due to cartlidge problems.
BMI isn't that scientific... if we want to go scientific, we should measure bodyfat... Now I happen to know my bodyfat percentage, as it was measured only a couple of weeks ago: 19% Last year was 14%, the year before that 16% and the year before that 15%. So I am the fattest I have been in the last 4 years, hence wanting to get back to race weight and down to about 15% bodyfat :)
@Stagger. Not good. Its hard when you can't do the exercise I guess. Hope the cartlidge problem is sorted sooner rather than later!
@Hanneke. Not to sound sexist, but thats pretty good for a woman I think! Particularly your 14 - 15% stat. You have been injured too though have'nt you?
My BMI was 22ish and bodyfat 15%ish. Off my scales! I want sub 21 BM! and sub 14% bodyfat. Not sure it'll happen anytime soon though!
Whilst its this cold Hann, I'd take it as an advantage. :D
You are right Shaun, I have still been, an am, really really cold...
and yes Fjell, I had an operation on Xmas eve and then was off for 6 weeks, then started building up again but it has been stop start so not surprised about that fat percentage gone up a bit. I have lost 10 watts of power too, compared to last year, but am still 4 watts up compared to 2011, so not too awful.
I am not exactly fat and unfit ;) Just using this thread as motivation to get back to race weight :)
Oh I do know how to flatter don't I
Well I am fine on the BMI test so why am I worrying about losing a couple more pounds ? That's my excuse for next week taken care of :sneaky:
+1 Hes :thumbup: everybody has there personal goals, I guess I am towards the racing snake end, but fully understand that this is a very personal thing. BMI is notoriously unreliable as an indicator for fat levels, but very easy to use. Callipers or to measure the body fat levels electronically is far more accurate. You have to consider that muscle is three times as dense as fat, also weight bearing exercise increases bone density too.
I went to my doctor for a check up and she weighted me my hight is 5’11 and weighed in at 11:7lbs, I would have guessed my body fat at around 16-17% at that time, she told me according to my BMI I was boarder line edging to overweight. :confused:

The best is when you get told by an exceedingly fat nurse that you need to lose some weight when you are at the lower end of a normal bmi! Not that that has scarred me or anything (it being 20 years ago:rolleyes: ). Last time I had a check up the nurse asked 'are you some kind of athlete?':thumbup: Think that was due to my low blood pressure and no, I wasn't in my running kit! I'm not a racing snake (unless that snake has had a couple of small lambs for tea) but I'm not fat either. I could just do to lose a few pounds in order for me to improve my running performance. I'm training harder this year but seem to stay the same weight even though I'm not eating loads. I should probably diet properly but the winter has taken away my willpower:o Roll on warmer weather and the urge to eat salads!
My GP knows I am an affalete, as d the nurses. The benefits of a small country practice :)
My fat percentage is done once a year, with calipers, by the guy who does my blood lactate testing to see what HR zones to use for the coming season. It is always done in March, after my winter training camp... so pretty accurate I think.
My HR and BP were so low that when I ended up in A&E just before xmas it caused some concern, so they put in my notes that I was a PROFESSIONAL MTB racer :w00t: and they kept on going on about what an athlete I was blah blah blah... because of low body mass/fat/HR/BP... I wasn't feeling it at the time! But apparently I hold the record for being in recovery after my op: only 5 minutes and everything was back to 'normal' an I could be moved to the ward :D
Hi Hes
The Doctor could have definitely have done with losing a few stone;) to get into the healthy range, so I know what you are saying, my new doctor a younger lady (not long qualified seems a bit more switch on). I am too only trying to loss a few pounds to get faster it is not really a health or vanity thing, I find the amount of training I do makes little difference to my weight now days, I have to watch what I eat to get it down :thunbdown:.
Like the rest of you when I have been to hospital and my blood pressure/ pulse is taken it they usually go for a second opinion. My resting rate is 38 BPM, although I would like to say that all down to how well trained I am it is at least impart due to a natural low heart rate. I said joking to the last nurse taking my heart rate, if is over 40 I am in trouble, she checked it twice then asked if I did a lot of sport, when I told her I was a Hill/fell runner she wouldn’t shut up about how she had seen us running hill races and how unbelievably fit we all were, it was quite embarrassing. :o

Back up to 83.1 kg. Not surprised since I've had the kids over the Easter holidays.
Still 67.5kg. Too much Easter chocolate.
I am in need to a major telling off. According to Strava I am averaging 5 runs a week and done about 550 miles so far this year and still I am going in the wrong direction. I can JUST about claim 71 Kg so up another 1/2 Kg this week. With all of the running in preperation for helping out a club mate in his BG next week, I am eating like a horse.
I am going to weigh myself after my lunchtime run. Its not cheating as I was going to run last night but work commitments prevented that. Honest!
159 Ibs - going the right way again probably due to the weekend's activities. I don't think the 5 miler at lunchtime made a lot of difference.
67kg - depressed that putting on weight ! suppers are now banned and only eat what i'm given by the wife + am training more so can't understand why not loosing it!
64.5kg so a little less but still not good. Probably lost a bit sweating and plodding my way round Baildon on Sunday, and the 7 miles last night. But, am now having to take a week off as my planter facsitis is so bad it is making my ankle and calf ache too much and, on top of that, my second toe, same foot, which already has a double black nail from Ripon Ultra in October, has now blown up with a massive blister of blood and gore again, it was like that in October, and it hurts! So am forced to rest to try and get rid of these little niggles, and the sun has come out, not fair, suppose I can wear sandals now and frighten people of with my attractive feet.:o
157 lb this morning :closed:
Oh ooops, forgot to weigh myself, will do it tomorrow morning...
10stone 2 on Monday morning
78.4kg. (+0.7) Too much something. But certainly not "will power" - of which I have none :o
166lb no excuse, just over ate and drank over Easter.
Back to the stricter diets now.
Having read people's comments, I have to say I am very dissapointed. There is just no will power being displayed here. I think it is time that some consequences are applied to failures within this thread. I am thinking along the lines of Stephen King's "Quitters Inc."

Brilliant Dr :confused: :w00t: Just told the wife she might be losing a finger or two.
