BMI isn't that scientific... if we want to go scientific, we should measure bodyfat... Now I happen to know my bodyfat percentage, as it was measured only a couple of weeks ago: 19% Last year was 14%, the year before that 16% and the year before that 15%. So I am the fattest I have been in the last 4 years, hence wanting to get back to race weight and down to about 15% bodyfat

@Stagger. Not good. Its hard when you can't do the exercise I guess. Hope the cartlidge problem is sorted sooner rather than later!
@Hanneke. Not to sound sexist, but thats pretty good for a woman I think! Particularly your 14 - 15% stat. You have been injured too though have'nt you?
My BMI was 22ish and bodyfat 15%ish. Off my scales! I want sub 21 BM! and sub 14% bodyfat. Not sure it'll happen anytime soon though!

You are right Shaun, I have still been, an am, really really cold...

and yes Fjell, I had an operation on Xmas eve and then was off for 6 weeks, then started building up again but it has been stop start so not surprised about that fat percentage gone up a bit. I have lost 10 watts of power too, compared to last year, but am still 4 watts up compared to 2011, so not too awful.

I am not exactly fat and unfit Just using this thread as motivation to get back to race weight

Well I am fine on the BMI test so why am I worrying about losing a couple more pounds ? That's my excuse for next week taken care of :sneaky:

+1 Hes  everybody has there personal goals, I guess I am towards the racing snake end, but fully understand that this is a very personal thing. BMI is notoriously unreliable as an indicator for fat levels, but very easy to use. Callipers or to measure the body fat levels electronically is far more accurate. You have to consider that muscle is three times as dense as fat, also weight bearing exercise increases bone density too.

I went to my doctor for a check up and she weighted me my hight is 5’11 and weighed in at 11:7lbs, I would have guessed my body fat at around 16-17% at that time, she told me according to my BMI I was boarder line edging to overweight.

The best is when you get told by an exceedingly fat nurse that you need to lose some weight when you are at the lower end of a normal bmi! Not that that has scarred me or anything (it being 20 years ago ). Last time I had a check up the nurse asked 'are you some kind of athlete?' Think that was due to my low blood pressure and no, I wasn't in my running kit! I'm not a racing snake (unless that snake has had a couple of small lambs for tea) but I'm not fat either. I could just do to lose a few pounds in order for me to improve my running performance. I'm training harder this year but seem to stay the same weight even though I'm not eating loads. I should probably diet properly but the winter has taken away my willpower Roll on warmer weather and the urge to eat salads!
