So - There will be loads of people to follow for the first few miles - I hope they all go the same way, I find it terribly confusing and distressing when I have to choose which people to follow.
I've reccied: Walker Barn to the end.
Earl Sterndale to just short of Cumberland Cott
CP1 to 2
I'll take the road from Millers Dale and avoid the steep track.
Any other top route choice tips?
Looking forward to this now!! Need to just mark up the map!!
You lucky people... sounds like a treat in store.
I am working, but still not really recovered from the Campylobacter that thwarted my BG hopes in May... hence not getting there this year.
Mark, I am sure you'll be fine and have a great day out... all was going well for us til we got lost :o in the dark round the back of Three Shires Head, but if you've recce'd that section you ought to be fine. It's a great event and hopefully I'll get the chance to get stuck in next year
Sarah - don't worry, if you go as well as you did on LTOB you will get very close to 12 hours
I think Ruth will be starting a bit more conservatively than me, although I'm sure she underestimates herself and I wouldn't be surprised if she overtakes me in the later stages...
Mark - you're going to be distressed right from the off then, as some people go out of the back of the park onto the residential road and some go out the front onto the main road!
I'll be going up the track from Miller's Dale, cos there's a pub where you cross the A6 and I might pop in for a swift half! (seriously)
I have had nightmares about the beginning as I have only done recees from Peak Forest, I was sure I knew the other bits and now they merge into one. I will be terribly confused about the beginning when everyone goes off in different directions! I tried to walk Furness to Big Stone but the cows chasing my dogs put paid to that plan so I will just have to trust my memory now!
I'm going to follow the track at Millers Dale as well to get the short sharp climb out of the way
ah the dreaded cow-field
it is possible to miss it out with a relatively short road diversion, but hopefully either the farmer will take the cows out for the day, or they'll get bored after chasing the first couple of dozen runners
Mark - As crow flies the most direct route to first checkpoint is with the hikers but the more runable route is out of the park, down past Brookside Garden Centre, sharp left,up stony road, left through hedges across fields, into and across Davenport Golf Club then out up roads past Boars Head cross over canal then up up into back of Lyme Park - cross fields up into woods, out the other end and then rocky track up to Bowstones.
Sarah - don't worry there will be others (me included) who will be taking it uber slow at the start so you will have others to walk/jog with and follow.
