Re: Tanky's Trog 2009 is on!!
Due to ongoing niggling injury I have decided to pull out of Tanky's and have informed Andy. My knee was sore after FTOP and a short run at the weekend to test it out left a doubt in my mind . The stretches of rocky track and stone flags and the Snake Road won't do it any favours either .
Hope you all have a good run on the day and the weather is not too bad. I may get up to Bleaklow for a walk and offer encouragement/sympathy whichever you need :)
Look after yourselves and each other :D

Is that part of the world good for a shag ?
We do get Shags in Derbyshire from time to time, but it's much more likely to have been a Cormorant, I think.

Does that mean there's a spare place going? I could start training tomorrow.

Much as I'd love to have there Geoff,
NO SUBSTITUTIONS!!!!! and NO EOD
Went for a last gentle trip over Bleaklow to rain guage and back to check the route conditions still very wet, quite a bit of snow and the odd patch of ice.
about 10 miles 1,500ft cold and claggy
Bumped in to a walker on route who asked us are we reccing Tanky's??
Us Sir! No Sir! Whats Tanky's? :o
Apparently he was out reccying for his son !!!!! How lazy is that:D, perhaps he's just tapering;) He mentioned he was from Glossopdale and I told him I knew Julien, We then admitted we were going to do Tanky's He then proceeded to give us lots of tips on crossing Bleaklow and route choice. I felt a bit guilty later so can I say I'm sorry:o
So pass this on to Neil McG of Glossopdale ( i think thats whose dad he was)

Sometimes a walker, sometimes a runner IDP! Don't always judge a book by its cover! It takes all sorts to truly appreciate the fells and you are still a comparative youngster :) Why would you feel guilty? As I said to you and your mates, what makes this race interesting is that everyone has a theory about the best route (even more so this year!) Were those sniffer dogs helping you to find the way? Was that really Bear Grylls who we bumped into later on?

Hi WV:D
Well I guessed you were/are a runner I nearly asked if your son went on the forum, didn't think to ask you:o
A good day for the recce and not as cold as I thought it was going to be.
Bear( I don't think it was he as he had no production team hiding out of shot;) ) was just leaving the top of Bleaklow when we got there, he asked about where Wainstones was so we pointed him the direction, he was also considereing going up to the fortress. A bit brave of him considering the trouble he had finding the top of Bleaklow in the fog

Re: Tanky's Trog 2009 is on!!
I'm getting a bit envious of this one - I think I'll have to come along next year. Camping at Biggin (Peak) with the family instead this weekend. Enjoy it (what am I saying - this is Bleaklow I'm talking about...) - sounds like the conditions could be pretty good.

will-do squire :)
can't say I'll be sporting anything quite so distinctive ... although ...
I tried out a powerstretch headband on the recce, and it was perfect (hat was too warm and waterlogged), so that might be coming out again
my mate test-drove her waterproof mascara on the recce also
we cut quite a dash

Good choice. I'll be sporting my trusty 17 litre special, complete with mandatory kit, medicinal brandy & xmas pudding (steamed in a microwave for eight hours:D)
Can't wait for it!

I'm glad you were wearing head band and she was wear mascara, I'd have been a bit worried if it was the other way round. I thought Amex was the only cross dresser round here:D
I'll point DT out to you amongst others

am having a shoe quandary: the mudclaws tore my feet up a bit last weekend, might have to go for the comfort of my Kanadias and end up on my arse a few times
there's a fair bit of hardpack and road anyway...

Hmmm decisions decisions…..

Oh b@ll@cks, thought i'd decided on mudclaws, you two got me wondering now, New NB 840's with orange soles:confused:??!!
-
Re: Tanky's Trog 2009 is on!!
hehe, sorry ML!
there aren't really any steep grassy descents though are there? except off Kinder right at the end
the orange mudclaw did come in handy as they were pretty grippy on the flagging and rocks of the PW but I think comfort is possibly more important
