Re: Edale Skyline 29th March 2
As I suggested earlier, the problem would be solved by a marshal, and that would be all round the best solution (though I'm not volunteering!).
Kinder Downfall had a similar problem with people going the wrong side of Swine's Back, some on purpose to get an advantage, and then others simply following because they didn't know the route. Dave added an unmanned checkpoint (punch your number) and problem solved, an end to agro and upset :)
At another race, the organiser can see if you've taken the illegal shortcut (intentional or not) from the finish and he disqualifies you at the finish, as I'm sure some of you'll remember reading about on this forum. That's what you call a bad solution to the problem :(

Re: Edale Skyline 29th March 2
First post on this forum (be gentle) and just thought I would chip in as I was the runner who shouted when I was passed by someone who cut out all the zig zags from the last CP. I didn't have a massive go at him and shouted mainly because I was knackered and would much rather have come down that way myself.
At the finish the chap who cut in offered to give me his place which I refused as it was kind of irrelevant as we weren't exactly at the sharp end of the field. I think this was all done in the right spirit.
In my first fell race I got bellowed at for jumping a gate instead of going through the style. I didn't realise I had done anything wrong and was grateful to be told rather than have a dozen people mutter under their breath at me.
I think the information on the route from the last CP was pretty obvious, its on the DPFR site, shown in the registration hall and announced by the marshal. If you hadn't read the route instructions how would you know where to run if you became isolated.

Want to see how you looked when you finished?
Check out the Dark Peak website, www.dpfr.org.uk and a click on the photo on the right hand bar will take you back - plenty of smiles in the sunshine...
Not many days like that in a fell running year

3 days?????? Eeeeeeee when I were a lad, before that there interweb thing, at the end of the race you had to address an envelope, leave a coin in and about six months later a photocopy of results would plop through the door. By that time, you had probably forgotten doing the race. Having said that, I have still kept volumes of the things (but now consigned to loft).
We are certainly well served now with both quick results and fantastic pics. They are sometimes online by the time I get back home after a race. It may make us a little blase about it.
I noted Sunday's results were displayed using the good old fashioned sticky labels on board method. I suspect someone may have to transcribe the details into electronic form before publishing.
I have also adusted to this new world instant results and confess to checking the dark peak web site on an hourly basis since monday afternoon. How often have you checked????????

Showing your age, there, Harry!
By the way, well done in the race - I loved the look of surprise on your face when you were called up for your prize.

I've lost count!
I'd like to think that Dark Peak are running a sweep on the eventual number of website hits before the results appear.

Luxury !!
We used to have to wait 3 years until we were even allowed to ask
if the results were ready !
When they were we had to take our slates and scratch the results down with
our finger nails till our little fingers were bleeding.
If we got any wrong we had to rerun the race backwards with a sack over
our heads.
But we were happy :D

Don't agree with issuing results. Too professional.

Eh, you were lucky!!
We used to have to run the race 3 times, back to back, in our bare feet and wait 9 years before we could walk to Land's End, swim to Saint Agnes on the furthest flung Scilly Isle and politely hand in our stamp addressed envelope hoping that one day, before we reached the ripe old age of 90, the results would show up.... and then they'd spell your name wrong and add 15 minutes to your time.
But you try telling the youth of today :D

Hope you extracated the car OK Oscar.
Sorry we weren't more helpful, my rust bucket would have been useless as a puller and you seemed to have plenty of volunteering pushers.
And that was on a dry day!

Cheers. Got out thanks to some pushing and then nifty reversing from one of my helpers. Thanks to everyone who lent a hand.

Hehe, its a 'local race for local people' anyway. The past results I looked at on the Dark Peak site seem to just be for Dark Peak runners anyway ;).

The text you quote is the intro written by Matt for the website.
I wrote the rest of it for my club newsletter, so some of the references in there won't mean much to anybody else.
Matt is a TRC member, although first claim with Eryri. He asked me if he could use the article on the website.

Re: Edale Skyline 29th March 2
Just to put things in perspective: a well supported local down south event was unable to publish its 2007 results for some weeks (it may even have run into months) as they had lost the website pass word. :o
I suspect that given numbers were being shouted out and scribbled down (as opposed to electronically dibbed as in 2007 and 2008) the whole process of getting them on the web, split times included, is taking the volunteer(s) concerned rather longer than anticipated.
That said I'm keen to see how my splits compare to previous outings.
Thanks to all at DPFR - Raymond

Re: Edale Skyline 29th March 2
Stop whingeing. Bullock Smithy rsults came out last week. The race was last September. Didn't they have a results board at the race? Or didn't you bother to look? I don't know why RO's should feel obliged to issue any results other than the ones they put up after the race.

I'm with Margarine on this one. It's a fell-race, not the London Marathon. I bet you've got one of those computer things that tells you how long you took, how many gels you slurped etc anyway ;)

I didn't make it to the village hall after - my legs were shot and it was beyond me to actually get there. Mind you I already know my time (ish) and I'm worried that the results will actually give me a slower time than I'm currently giving myself!

Re: Edale Skyline 29th March 2
Maybe the organisers should text the results to their mobile phones.

I'm listed as 'retired' even though I finished :-(
