Just out of interest, what was the reason for the Twitchill farm detour?
Two main reasons as I understand it
firstly the field had mixed live stock in that would have caused a big head ache to move but mainly the descent to the bottom gate is now heavily eroded, it's causing a drain pipe effect and directing water straight through the gate. The walls either side have become undermined and they have become unsafe. the local landowner has been very approachable and open to other routes.
Other races that use the same descent will be probably rerouted for the same reasons.
next years route change which I'll leave to IanF to confirm sounds really good with no tarmac and steep runnable grass/heather.:D
I walked up the path from the gate yesterday and it was very clear that 400 runners in studded shoes would have made an already eroded path into a real mess. Had the ground been wet it would have been devastating.
Come on then IanF, lets hear the new route for next year! I need to start reccying now if I'm wanting to get anywhere near the crazy times some people finished in yesterday! ;)
Well done to everyone that ran and especially those that helped, a great day out in the country and the views around the Skyline at about 4pm were beautiful.
IanDP - if that pans out that would be great, that section has always been a weak point in the route in terms of the 'Skyline'. If we could only do something about the road on Mam Nick....
I'm sure there's a comedy sketch in there
Absolutely awesome race, views and participants! Excellently organised and marshalled, a true example on how to organise and run a high profile fell race.
It was a shame to see 430 entrants on Sientries, but only 300 turn up :-( Their loss!
