Will be posting my entry form today :)
i've just posted my entry off
i've got a bit of hard graft to do if i'm going to get through the cut-off at mam nick in time, as i'm not the most fleet of foot. there's nothing like the 'walk of shame' to concentrate ones efforts
:-)
Just filled out my application form and am going to post it tomorrow, bit worried about the experience box, what is considered enough? Bullock Smithy, Hayfield series, Goyt series, Snowdonia mountain race and marathon, would this be passable?
Cheers Ian, I will keep my fingers crossed
That's my form filled in - in the postbox in the morning. What have I done? Playing with the big boys again. Thought I'd leaned my lesson on the Wadsworth Trog, but clearly not.
I'm in :) or is it
Better start planning some recce's in. Windgather tomorrow AGFTFES
How much experience is needed for this race? I've been running, biking and walking in the area for years, but barely done any races.... would that be enough?
has anyone had there conformation email yet??
Cheers Ian, busy logging those for the mountain leader course I'm part way through, so should be to hand when I get round to fixing my printer/printing the form at work.
Just been looking for route maps for this and found a link on the DPFR website to racemaps, it's from 2007 is it still the same route, is it any good, has anyone got any better suggestions, am I worrying too much?
http://forum.fellrunner.org.uk/showt...skyline&page=7
It's Nobthrob that's done the Edale map. The link is here but there may not be any in stock yet?
I'm sure he'll let us know
and yes...stop worrying it's months away yet.;)
Interesting to see that last year the thread started as entries opened and that was in the January - this time it's 4 months earlier
Its a good map Tom and as far as we know its the same route (who knows it might change between now and MARCH). I seem to have lost mine so I can't check, but I remember it being very useful for the reccying. I suspect that to get the best lines on this race you need to join the forum reccy in the winter though :)

Edale YHA booked out for the Saturday night
I know it's been mentioned earlier desperate for a route/map for edale skyline as i would like to do plenty of recce missions over winter. I have tried old links and no joy and also no current map from Lakesrunner. Help me, my brothers and sisters you are my only hope.
Here you go Tri
Go on ebay spend the £6.69 buy this map:-
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2009-Explorer-...item19b748f2fb
If you dont like ebay simply buy the map from any camping shop.
Then either follow the map or draw the route on the map in 2B pencil
Start and Finish: Field at the bottom of Grindsbrook (GR 123863)
Checkpoints:
Follow tapes up the zig-zags to the top of the hill
1. Ringing Roger (GR 126872)
2. Top of Jagger’s Clough (GR 144881)
At the fingerpost near Crookstone Barn - turn left following the taped section to the gate at the bottom of the field on the main path - DO NOT follow the old route through the gate at Crookstone Barn, there's a new fence been put up!
3. Win Hill Summit (GR 186851) 4. Hope (Edale Road) (GR 172838) - drinks 5. Lose Hill Summit (GR 153853) 6. Mam Tor (GR 127835) - drinks at Mam Nick
Time limit and cut off at Mam Nick (GR 125833) is 2 ½ hours after the start - no exceptions.
7. Lord’s Seat on Path (GR 108833) 8. Brown Knoll Trig Point (GR 083851)
Follow tape due west to stile and run along fence line
9. Top of Jacob’s Ladder (GR 081861) 10. Grindslow Knoll Top (GR 110868) 11. Ringing Roger (GR 126872)
Follow the zigzags down the hill
12. Finish (GR 123863)
All the best. Now get off and get some Recce's done and lets not have any more mention of a map or route;)
Thank you i will. I find myself duly admonished and humbly beg for mercy for upsetting the fellrunning gods with my naive incompetence. Seriuosly only reason i asked is that i had heard there were pre laminated and pre marked maps for some races this being one of them and i think they were only 3 quid As i say no bother i will do it the normal way.
The map is good but its not all that necessary. I only learnt about one minor short cut from it. It's not a particularly complicated route, there is lots of scope for time saving dodges but if you're doing lots of reccying you'll discover these anyway.
The forum did a reccy last year and there were loads of time saving advice there.
BTW the lakes runner map isn't laminated. I think they get them back in stock each year nearer the time.
the only bit that really needs a recce is Mam Nick to finish. The first bit is an obvious path and there will be plenty to follow unless you can get in front!!
Recce'd the first bit yesterday which probably wasn't the wisest thing to do after Passing Clouds on Sunday. The only thing I'm in two minds about is which route to take up Lose Hill. A few more recce's and that'll be sorted.Quote:

Mam Nick to the finish is a big black hole for me though. I think I'll be trying that at various different points between now and March
