Apologies for the delay, they are still being checked. As you might imagine, collating all the times is a mammoth task.
Thanks... It'a a massive team effort to put on but worth it in every way when you see the enjoyment on runners' faces (once they can breath). For me, the great thing is that it's an introduction to fell running for tarmac fanciers who wouldn't normally dream of fell racing. I know that plenty get a taste for it.
i ran leg 6 for Clayton and the results that I saw had us down as running the second fastest leg behind Holmfirth Harriers (i think a 2.22 marathoner was one of them so no shame in that) :-) If the results I looked at were right and the bottle of Magners I'd supped straight after hadn't had an effect I think we increased the lead on Todmorden by a few seconds on leg 6. :-)
The winning time for Sale was 6:15:46
I'm still waiting on the full results.
I didn't see official results but was told at the end Of leg 5 we were a minute and a half behind and at the finish we were 58 seconds down. You could be right though will see when the results are up. Well ran by the way they were 2 fast guys we had on that leg.

The results are on our website now.

Am amazed at one of the big teams getting dqd for no kit!!!
It must be a real kick in the teeth for the other team members...I felt awful for them when I found out. We apply the FRA rules strictly. We have to. The kit requirements were hammered home time after time in the race instructions, in this thread, on notices at registration AND at the start. Believe me, it's with a very heavy heart that we apply DQs.
I've PM you Manofthemoors.
It's the Race Director who makes the call. He has very little option to be honest and even though the kit list might seem a bit over the top on a day like Sunday, the only fair thing to do is apply it without fear or favour.
There are a few photos of you and your partner on our flickr page this time Jez. I think I know why you were slower despite taking the correct course this time.
Just seen results, goodbye our best ever 4th place!! Turns out our team captain managed to "lose" his waterproof top during leg 2. Even more ironically he'd brought 3 spare whistles and compasses in case any of our team members forgot them!! Don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Be interested to know what Wharfedale and the other teams fell foul of ; could stomach a disqualification for a flagrant breach but seems a bit harsh for one item! Like everyone is saying though rules are rules!
Shame there's not scope for a time penalty or something then the 11 runners wouldn't lose their times!
It happened to us last year, whereby two of runners thought they could bend the rules and came up the wrong side. As you can imagine, everyone was annoyed as we would have come 4th. This year we didnt make that mistake.
We are down as being 54 seconds behind you at the end of leg 5 and 59 seconds behind you at the finish so looks like I got duff info about the time gap. Results also don't show we overtook 2 teams as they were both dq'd. Your leg 5's overtook Wharfedale as well but it doesnt show.
Dan
I think we went past Wharfedale as Spencer Riley broke his foot on leg 5.
Don't think there was any deliberate rule bending going on! The culprit has been doing CWR for years and spent the last few weeks reminding the rest of us to bring full kit; sounds more like a moment of numptiness!! Still life goes on.....
Hope Spencer Riley makes a speedy recovery.
So Spencer ran with a broken foot, only to be disqualified. Harsh! Poor fella, but how brave is that? Best wishes for a speedy recovery from all of us at Halifax Harriers.
Jack Holder, running Leg 2 for the A team also sprained an ankle at the end of the descent of Stoodley Pike (he has two ruptured ligaments). They were 4th at the time. Helped to a marshall at the road junction, and took 5-7 mins to sort out before his partner could continue, but by this time in about 10th/11th place.
Gutted for spencer, top lad. Same with jack holder he's only just started racing again after doing something similar at the badger stone relays last year as me and watdog carried him down from the top of ilkley moor last year. Hope they both make a speedy recovery. Cheers for the results manothemoors much appreciated. We had a decent first attempt as a club finishing 13th. Look forward to try and improving on it for next year.
I thought that Barlick had a cracking race for a first time up. I know that we are a fairly big club and we had all kinds of trouble getting a first team together....they all got injured in the last few weeks.
So which brother are you...the one that finished first or just behind?
All grist to the mill.
Under the direction of Madeleine Watson, the FRA Chair, a sub-group, which I am leading, is revising the FRA Safety Requirements and these, on matters such as “kit” and aspects of race monitoring, like unreadable vest numbers, are going to be more demanding from 2014.
And this review is independent of any outcome from the Inquest into the death of Brian Belfield at Buttermere Sailbeck in 2012, which has not yet been held.
Graham, on race monitoring, the procedures we had seemed to work quite well .... we were certainly aware when we had two ladies missing on my checkpoint (they arrived very late, having got lost). I'm sure you've heard more than enough feedback but I'll offer my observations. The issues that seemed to be most contentious/needed most clarity for runners were 1, what constitutes "a map" and 2, what can reasonably be construed as "full body cover".
Comment is free but I do not wish to start a debate on here. I really only commented to support the DSQ at the CWR but:
i) the current wording in 9 c says "map and compass suitable for navigating the course" so if someone turns up with an AA road map and a compass from a Xmas cracker the RO can just say "good joke but you aren't running so 'bye" and the FRA will support that approach. So long as the RO complies with the FRA rules he/she can do what they want. It is their event.
ii) I am not trailing the changes because the work is in progress but we will clarify full body cover.
Not strictly true, they were in 4th place but there were no marshalls. I was on London Road watching and saw Jack fall near the bottom. I gave Jack a lift to the end of the leg and told his partner to carry on well before they got to the road. I had to rush to get my lift to leg 5 after i dropped him off.
Dan
Well, I thought it was most ungallant of your brother to surge away, leaving you in his wake. :)
You set off near the back of the field. Although capable of running close to the pace of the front runners, your early pace was limited by the runners around you. It's very very hard to make that up, even over 10 miles as you naturally tend to run either just fast enough to keep pace with the runners in front...or just quickly enough to pick them off steadily. This is especially true up the hills and where tracks are narrow. By the time you left Clay House you were a couple of hundred metres down.
On that course, if you are in the first 5 at the top of the hill on Norland Moor, you will not lose many places by Crag Vale even if you are knackered. There was very little difference between the pace of the 5th pair and the pace of the 50th pair as the got to the moor.
You're dead right. My team mate had just flown back from from America & was pretty jet-lagged. So we made (a wrong decision) to start at the back & take it steady. As you say, this was a wrong choice as you spend the first mile or 2 trying to weave in & out of people on narrow tracks. We reckon we lost a good few minutes. We were considerably faster last year, having run an extra mile, so, lesson learnt ! But it still didn't detract from a great morning out. Thanks again & also for the photos.
Apologies if this is asking a bit much as we're in disgrace! I'm guessing there are still official times somewhere for the disqualified teams. Is there any chance they could be posted somewhere or added to the bottom end of the results? For anyone like me who's too tight to buy a watch, just want to know how we went on compared to everyone else!
