It's the Race Director who makes the call. He has very little option to be honest and even though the kit list might seem a bit over the top on a day like Sunday, the only fair thing to do is apply it without fear or favour.
There are a few photos of you and your partner on our flickr page this time Jez. I think I know why you were slower despite taking the correct course this time.
Just seen results, goodbye our best ever 4th place!! Turns out our team captain managed to "lose" his waterproof top during leg 2. Even more ironically he'd brought 3 spare whistles and compasses in case any of our team members forgot them!! Don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Be interested to know what Wharfedale and the other teams fell foul of ; could stomach a disqualification for a flagrant breach but seems a bit harsh for one item! Like everyone is saying though rules are rules!
Shame there's not scope for a time penalty or something then the 11 runners wouldn't lose their times!
It happened to us last year, whereby two of runners thought they could bend the rules and came up the wrong side. As you can imagine, everyone was annoyed as we would have come 4th. This year we didnt make that mistake.
We are down as being 54 seconds behind you at the end of leg 5 and 59 seconds behind you at the finish so looks like I got duff info about the time gap. Results also don't show we overtook 2 teams as they were both dq'd. Your leg 5's overtook Wharfedale as well but it doesnt show.
Dan
I think we went past Wharfedale as Spencer Riley broke his foot on leg 5.
Don't think there was any deliberate rule bending going on! The culprit has been doing CWR for years and spent the last few weeks reminding the rest of us to bring full kit; sounds more like a moment of numptiness!! Still life goes on.....
Hope Spencer Riley makes a speedy recovery.
So Spencer ran with a broken foot, only to be disqualified. Harsh! Poor fella, but how brave is that? Best wishes for a speedy recovery from all of us at Halifax Harriers.
Jack Holder, running Leg 2 for the A team also sprained an ankle at the end of the descent of Stoodley Pike (he has two ruptured ligaments). They were 4th at the time. Helped to a marshall at the road junction, and took 5-7 mins to sort out before his partner could continue, but by this time in about 10th/11th place.
