Weather's looking good for now;)

Anyone done the short course? On the race website the first few checkpoints are listed as:
Checkpoint 1. GR 228948 Disused Quarry Building
Checkpoint 2. GR 247960 Disused Quarry Buildings on Bridleway then follow top side of wall to
Checkpoint 3. GR 250977 Wall corner
Checkpoint 4. GR 261978 50m West of Dow Summit
All grid refs correspond to features on the map except for checkpoint 3. Should it be the obvious wall corner at 756968?
Ooops, my mistake! I guess it's the corner by Black Scar.
Yup its looking good for the race and my mates bidet celebrations:

See some of you there, say hello to a Westies vest.

Just got home after watching both races from Dow Crag and Goats Hause. There looked to be some very hot people out there today, hope you all had a good run in the conditions which were fabulous for spectators!
Duddon results up already on their site!

Very hot day out!
Awesome race, toughest thing Ive ever done. the first half was well hot, it was good to be in shade going up little stand, not that it made it any easier.
Totally drained from that one, managed to hold off the cramps long enough for a good final descent of CAW.
Just noticed I didnt reach all checkpoints before closing time, a big thanks to all the marshalls for keeping them open for so many of us tailenders, and for their verbal support, I needed it eh..
One of my fav lakes races. Diffo hot at times out there. Felt very hot at hardknot, thought probably would have to pull out at threeshires stone. Took it very easy up cold pike and seem to recover to get all the way round, picked up a few places in the last few miles. As toes not used to the big descents in the Lakes this year, was quite slow coming off Caw, so felt quite fresh for a change at the finish.:D
 Really? I don't think anyone else went up Cold Pike.
It's a belting race, this, but I started to suffer with cramps coming off Caw, with made for a bit of a slow finish.
Thanks to The Master for handing out the jelly babies near Brim Fell (I think), and of course thanks to Aalish :D for the jelly babies at Walna Scar Road (& Lloyd for the water).
After completing the race yesterday, I realised I
was missing my wedding ring. I can only think that it must of come off
during one of the two falls I experienced on the day. One of these took
place on the trail between Swirl How and Dow Crag , the
other about a mile or so north of Caw.
The ring is a gold band and has Helen 17/09/2005 engraved on the inside.
Know its a long shot, but has anyone come across it ?
What a great race. far longer than anything I'd done before. Thanks to all the marshals and all those ofrrering food and drink on the way.
Well done to everyone who finished on a pretty hot and humid day.
Me, I'm still very disappointed after yesterday. Tweaked my ankle backpacking in Knoydart last week, thought it would be ok but went over on it 3 times coming off Harter Fell. No stability at all.
Tried to keep going and hope it would get better, pretty much had to walk the downhills and when even the traverse path across to 3 Shires was proving difficult, decided I had to call it a day:(
Shame, 'cause it's a lovely route and I was looking forward to the 2nd half. Also now worried that it might not heal in time for Ennerdale:(
Thanks to people who asked if I was ok as they went past - fellrunners are a lovely bunch of people:)
Did Joe Bloggs really win the short race?
A great race indeed, go for the Ennerdale Mudlugger, 2 weeks is a long time to recover, if you dont do it you'll regret it, i'v doubled up befor when there was only a week between the 2 you will want to do it in a week.
Just set off easier.
Do you think it was a Joe Bloggs or the Joe Bloggs.
Maybe next time I'll take a watch as 12 seconds quicker would have shown a far more impressive time, but I would have had to buy the beers all night if I was to keep my promise....
A grand day out for me, kept it steady at the start, comfortable on the climbs, took good lines except coming up from 3 Shires to Swirl Howe, wandering over the tops and then too far to the right around Gt Carrs...
Came up with some cramp heading towards Dow Crag but some encouragement and advice from fellow runners kept the spirits up!
Can't wait for Wasdale....
Haven't done a long race in a while, but took it nice and easy, enjoyed the views, and throughly enjoyed it. All of it. First time I've been able to say that about a long race.
The apres fell in the pub was pretty good as well. What a fantastic idea, a fell race sponsored by Jennings! I just had to show my repeated appreciation.
Grosed, I walked along the Swirl How - Dow crag path today. No sign of a ring I'm afraid. (then got chased down the Walna Scar Road by a herd of cows, most undignified)
some pictures. http://www.flickr.com/photos/wrross
Just got back from a lovely few days. Really enjoyed the race, though it was very hard. Struggled up Little Stand, but felt a lot better on Swirl How and regained a lot of ground. Then died on the ridge! Not sure if it was the heat or just that I can't go fast and long but really great fun none the less.
Well organised and friendly, so thanks to all the organisers, marshals, fellow runners and spectators who gave encouraging words.
Disappointed with my time of just over 5hours but something to aim for next time. Not feeling confident about Ennerdale now, but think I will try anyway.
its all good time on feet.
Jason
Was up walking part of the route on Saturday with the family - well done to everyone who ran, it looked tough.
Someone had bad heel blisters on Dow Crag - was it a forumite?
Well - what a great weekend. The route is brilliant and the setting couldn't be better (apart from the midges!!). Lots of support on route, water/jelly babies - in fact I'm sure I was offered some boiled potatoes at the Walna Scar crossing (or was I hallucinating?) - can I have chips next year?
Pub is fantastic. I'll be back for more next year - and hopefully a better time (was pacing myself round to be sure I could make the distance in that heat).
Great course, fantastic support along the route. Really appreciated the fruit pastille thingys at Walna scar road. My first fell race of this distance so didn't know what to expect, other than pain and suffering, but really enjoyed it.
Posted the application for Ennerdale and Borrowdale today and now can't wait for those.
Jason, will contact you soon for a recce of the Arrochar Alps if it's still okay. Well done on saturday, see you at ennerdale.
Iain
I think you were just ahead of me all along the final ridge Mud. I really struggled there in the heat. Red shoulders with a distinctive bladder mark in white. Fetching!
Recced Ennerdale with Baggins, Huw and Moo (how was the race?) and mostly its long with 2 killer climbs after half way. I am not sure if I will make it with the tight cut offs but have to have a try.
I'll jog round the Arrochar route this Sunday in training (I feel I have to before I ask folk to race it) and hopefully see you at Ennerdale.
Jason
[QUOTE=Trossachs!;132963] I am not sure if I will make it with the tight cut offs but have to have a try.
speaking of cutoffs how will that work at ennerdale? Hopefully quite flexibly like at duddon, those cut off schedules made no sense to me at all. I missed most of them but found I hit one or two early and later on.
Along the final ridge, did we chat briefly about the final fell (you asked if we had about 2 mile to go)? Think I shrugged and swore at that big b"%**d still to climb?
Thanks. I couldn't remember what his real name was (he didn't put it on the entry form so we Bloggsed him).

I came by to mention that the results are up properly now and some pictures are on flickr, but I see you've been there already. The pictures will be tagged properly some time later this week when I get the time. Let me know if there's anything else we should be doing there.
see you at ennerdale,
will
Hi wrross,
Nothing you or anyone could do to make the race more enjoyable and well organised. A great day out
Great releasing the results so fast, great to have immediate splits and realise how fast I set off and how slow I finished compared to everyone else and great to have loads of piccies up straight away.
Only thing I ask is for someone to provide a bit of light drizzle and a few clouds. Don't think thats too much to ask.
just done 30mins jog, that race took alot out of my legs... need food.
