Went for short run last night to see how my shin is doin and i was running down the thin off-road path near my house thats quite over-grown....and this wood pigeon flew out of a tree right into me.
Took me by quite a supprise and the bird was in shock, it just stood on the floor. I picked it up and hid it in the bush away from anythin that might want to eat it and continued on my run, on my return through the path on the way home, i checked and it had gone....presuming it recovered and flew off becuase there was no sign of feathers or anyting that would suggest it had been eaten.
try this site...

tha'll be able to find a welsh moler 'oo might doll yer aunties for less than £4 a time.:D
Last night's run around Holme Moss: saw lapwings, curlews and hares a plenty. And then right at the end an owl. Best thing was that I didn't see a single person in over 2 hours.... :p
They were all in pairs then?
Just, errm, brown, dark brown...if that helps!
Lapwings , Ostercatchers, Heron , blackcaps , coal tits and Orange tip Butterflies.
Is this 'wildlife encounter' thing supposed to be stuff seen when tha's out on a run?...coz if it is then I don't qualify as t'runnin's tekken a back seat for a week or two.
Mind you...I could lie 'n pretend I was out runnin wi' mi camcorder!
filmed 4 playful fox cubs last evening...then t'vixen turned up wi' a rabbit she'd caught.:cool:They were totally unaware that I was there.
Daren't say where the den is for fear o' someone killin 'em...suffice to say it was somewhere up t'Dales. Got totally midged-off after 10 mins...evil little bugga's:eek:
wonderful run with no people in sight.
lapwings, snipe, curlew, grouse(featherd kind), hare.
Also found two snares, one occupied by a stoat?
Swimming mayfly nyymph, non-biting midge larva, uncased caddis fly larva, beetle larva, water mite, stonefly nymph, whirligig beetle (School field trip)
Amazing what you can find on school fields these days:D
Errr... btw IDP: how did you know it was a stoat?
did yer leave the snare in place? Even though "free-runnin" snares are still legal I think it's an 'ellish asty control method...mind you all them upland ground-nestin birds you saw will stand a much better chance of raisin there yung'uns wi'out stoats 'n weasels 'n charlie fox predatin 'em.
Surprised there was a stoat in it...snares are normally set fo' rabbits 'n foxes.
That was a public information message.
[QUOTE=dominion;135002]What about tha' putin' i'up on't youtoobe for uz all t'see?
like I said I don't want to give away the location...the footage I got would show too much detail of the site...there's too many lampers out there oo'll seek 'em out if they get an inkling of where the den is.
I'll 'ave anutha session nxt week (assumin some bugga 'ant gone 'n dolled 'em inbetween time) then 'll ask Grifter if 'e can put a clip ont'web. Is that ok Dom?
Must remember to tek mi Avon SSS nxt time.

Trap was too small for a fox and given location it wasn't for a rabbitt or hare.
Don't know for certain hence the ? it was semi decomposed but about 25cms long grey brown fur thin with long tail Stoat/Weasel/sharp pointy teeth! ?
The traps were set out side a purpose built hole(nest) with an egg in side. I've got the GRef and picture on another unoccupied snare found same day, we set it off and then buried both snare and hole.
[QUOTE=IanDarkpeak;135163]'ang on a minnit ID...in tha previous post tha said "snare"...now tha's sayin "trap"...there's a difference. I think tha's stumbled on a Fenn trap which are used to catch small ground "vermin" such as stoats, weasels 'n rats.
Tha mention that the dead animal was semi-decomposed...these traps are legal but they must be set in a tunnel to prevent non-target animals being caught and they must be checked at least once a day but preferably twice...mornin 'n evenin...so the fact that the animal was decomposed shows that the "gamekeeper" is usin the trap illegally.
Tha shuduv tekken a photo then passed th'evidence to th'appropiate authority...animal welfare/DEFRA/Natural England/RSPCA.
Don't pick the trap up or destroy it coz that's th'evidence. Also if traps/snares are bein used legally then tha won't be doin fell runnin fraternity any good by annoyin gamekeepers 'n landowners.
That was anutha "public information message".
Wharfeego should get that keyboard of his fixed.
yes you can, look here

Really pleased to report mum and dad blackbird have produced a large baby blackbird from the nest in the bush in my front garden. Dad's just been feeding baby on the fence 5feet from my front-room window - fantastic!
[QUOTE=wharfeego;135168]'as tha got a piture ova fenn trap?
Snare/Trap they both catch animals, sorry if it was worded incorrectly.
Like a big mouse trap and yes it had been in the hole so other animals would not be caught. Neither had been checked for weeks, the other one had had an egg in it but it had decomposed. the trap was very rusty. Will try and post a picture later.
I shall report it.
We've had a cute Robin Redbreast hanging around in the garden the last few days. :)
I thought they only came out at Christmas ;)
Catched a buck Roe Deer ont'camcorda whilst 'avin mi butties int'van...it trotted x road 'n leapt a fence then started munching some foliage...zoomed reet in on it.
Will add it to the fox cub snippets...plus wotever I manage to film later this evenin...then I'll ask Grifter to stick it on yoo toob...'e said 'e would last neet int'pub.
I'll 'ave to be well upwind o' the sensitive-nosed buggas 'r'else they'll be down th'oles like a shot.
Blathered missen up wi' avon sss...plus mi midge 'ood...goin prepared this time;)
I'm off up yon dale...keep thi fingers x'd I'll geet some good views fothee to look at next week.

sss/mij'ood/gloves/gaiters...parked mi arse on a limestone escarpment forran'our ("a long continuous steep face of a ridge formed by erosion"...fo' them as dunt know wot an escarpment is...Public Info interlude:rolleyes:)...infested wi' midges... never got bit once.
It's just a fair thing tav midges crawlin all oer thi 'n know they can't get yer.
Got the cubs on film but t'owd dog 'n vixen didn't turn up before dark...they cud probably smell mi repellant a mile off.
I've bin told since that the local gamekeeper shot a dog fox on the fell close to where the cubs are. That probably explains why mister ant bin around.
Yesterday : loads of bunnies many young uns, a young group of Goldfinches, a lovely shoal of Dace under the Bridge on Teesdale Way. A Turkscap Lily too , bit of a rarity in the wilds up here. Also spotted quite a few mayflys and demelzas and a black backed Gull greedily hoovering them up.
Followed a hare down the road in the car last night for a couple of hundred yards. Those things can really run, I thought it was a small terrier when I first saw it.
Been walking up Beamsley Beacon and over Round Hill today. Saw loads of Meadow Pippets and Curlew and heard several Golden Plover. Well remember some birdwatchers up on Bleaklow describe them as "Johnnie One-notes", which sums them up brilliantly.
a shedful o' midges tugetha wi' a bunch o' wild mammals beltin doon scree at Kettlewell...midge capital o' Dales!
