Cheers Nikalas, as soon as i get my redunancy pay, i'm having one;)
Second that. Those that have 'em like 'em.
Did SSUK at weekend. What an experience that was! Didn't see Lola though...
Fishbulb,
You rotten S*D.
I said hello to you twice before the race on Sunday morning and you just blanked me and turned away!! OK I did'nt actually say 'Hi I'm Lola' but I'm not that bad looking and I did have my nephew in tow as promised. Hope yours was one of the bikes they hung in the trees now.;)
Joking aside, the racing standard was very impressive and the cheerful atmosphere was the best I've seen at any race. My humble converted MTB won't cut it next year tho and I dare not get another bike so may have to borrow one for the event.
We did'nt stay to the bitter end as it was a long drive home, what time did you get?
Merry,
Really pleased about the new job.
And YES, lots of people have seen me, Fishbulb at about 1100hrs on Sunday last for one. There were not that many spectators and even fewer wearing a bright pink sleeveless duvet jacket saying 'hello Fishbulb'. Its stokings, suspenders and a basque next year if thats what it takes to get noticed:eek:
Doh! Sorry about that. Mine wasn't hung in the trees but it still took me about 5 minutes to find despite about 2/3 of 'em been taken before I'd ambled up there! Suffice it to say I wasn't exactly 'racing'.
It was indeed a fantastic event and I think that the organisers of the one in Brechfa next year will have a tough job following it.
Ooops, I got excited and forgot my 'c'.
Got quite excited last night in my garage as well
Took a hacksaw and a grinder to my old XT outer ring/spider and now have an almost perfect alloy bashguard. A little gentle fettling to make it round not Biopace and I'm ready for a new SS 36T and the transformation will be complete.
What ratio are you going to run - 36 x 18? I was going to recommend the On-one Stainless chainrings but they only do 'em in 32T. Mine is lovely and should last forever (I hope).
You read my mind, I'm on 32 x 16 and planning to order from On One this evening (can't from work). Need new bolts too cos I mashed them getting them out last night - even resorted to a blowlamp at one stage but did'nt touch the rings themselves.
FINISHED
On One 32t nestling nicely by my now super smooth XT bashring (hacksawed and filed my way through the 42t outer to alloy smoothness), excellent chainline, slightly droopy Doofer and best of all - IT WORKED!
You may have ignored me this year Fishbulb but next year your arse is mine :D
Oooh, promises promises!

See you in Brechfa next year, Merry!
I rode Brechfa as part of last years Trans-Wales and there are some cracking trails... might have to put it in the diary.
Excellent vid, now I have got a taste for it... and you are even allowed brakes! Are these single speed MTB's or are they fixed?
Brechfa?
Having spent way too many wet, frozen nights around Sennybridge in summers past I've always rather avoided that part of the world. Are there any decent B&Bs nearby to Brechfa and whats the ground like?
Don't know about B&B's but the trails are all-season quick drying jobs typical of Welsh trail centres. The week of the Trans-Wales last year was one of the wettest of the summer and, the day we hit Brechfa, the wettest of the week. Even though part of the camp subsided in a mudslide the trails were all peachy.
Piccy is from the evening Special Stage there.... sorry about the geared bike but it was before I saw the light!
Hanneke - yes they have brakes! One guy did the race on fixed, the loon! The rest of us had freewheels.
Loons there were aplenty; the guy using what looked like track drop bars and road brake levers took my breath away but he still cleaned the big hill which most pushed!
Hann,
Please pm me with 8 fig grid ref, I'm inbound ;)
I did an off road Tri there, as my first tri, on a borrowed MTB with no suspension... the marshalls thought I was crazy... I did not know what to expect, just as well, because as a result I did rather well :D I had never ridden a MTB before, so it was 'interesting' :D
I have to say, I have VERY limited expereince with MTB's and off road riding but much prefer the x-bike over the MTB... suppose that is because it is closer to riding a road bike, which I am used to...
Lol! :D
Great vid on U Tube, for weird blokes with beards there was some awesome bike handling. :)
Yep... and I want to try that sort of thing now... There is only so much riding on roads you can do... After the crits, circuit races, TT's and road races it may be time to try something new!
This summer is meant to be an exploration of everything bike related so why not?
Having read and re-read this thread, i have now gone and bought a Genesis iO (2008) SS
cant wait to have a thrash round on it :D:D
My Orange P1 is built and awaiting me to pick up, can't get there till next weekend though:(
There are lots of us on SS now, is it worth a gentle Forum SS day out later in the year ( ie when I get back to UK! ) - a few drinks and maybe some tips on how to get the most out of that one cog?
Not that I'm feeling lonely you understand, cos nobody ever PMs me anymore - you know who you are:o
When are you back in the UK then, Lola? I might be up for a bit of an SS pootle depending on the date/location.
