And no, I didn't go for a ride today, thought I might rust:eek:
But I did go yesterday, 30 miles, nipped in a retour de Col du Roc Blanche, got bl**dy soaked:eek::(
1.5 hours on the cross bike before work this morning!
Sun was shining, but it was still very very wet under wheel and foot, because of the incessant rain for days we have had. Never been as muddy as this before in my life I reckon :)
Great fun, but starting to realise I seriously lack in upper body strength for pushing and carrying the bike and also handling it off road seems heavy on the upper body... Not easy for a puny roadie ;)
Still, I think I have enough time to build up some strength before 27 September :)
Thinking about a ride on the roadbike that incorporates l'Escalier du Diable on Sunday
The aftermath :D

Lol Bw :)
I just read the one about excessive packaging on that website, genius! Or rather, ridiculous!!!!:D
Lovely ride tonight, Nant Peris > Pen Y Pass > Beddgel > Rhyd > Llanfestiog > Pen Machno (Via migneint) > Betws > Capel > Nant Peris. 50-55 miles, with a few decent climbs in. Strong winds made the Capel to PyG section the hardest bit of the ride.
20 minutes up to the highest village in Britain and back (~5 miles). Testing my new clip-in pedals.
And yes, I did fall off once :(
Am toying with the idea of purchasing a mountain bike......budget around £150 (which i appreciate is fairly tiny) subject to wife's approval .....
any suggestions?
Is Halford's a bad place to look?
Want something that I can use on and off road that wont fall apart too easily.....
Thanks
Hmmm, £150 is not going to get you very much... If you only have that amount to spen, I would look for a second hand bike. Start checking the local trader magazines or whatever they are called... and maybe things like gumtree and Ebay?
Then again, I got myself a lovely Kona Caldera hardtail for £100 from a mate, so don't be disheartened :)
There's quite a few on Halfords for under £150, but I've no idea what they're like

Confusing or what?
Don't even think about full suspension for £150!!! It will be crap!!! My mate bought an MTB from Tesco for £40. For what he does - rides to the station and bike it's okay, but the pedals bust within a month, the bottom bracket is stuffed within 6 months and the brakes are utter shite...
My advice? Keep saving and ask again when you've got £350 to spend.
Cheers Dom, I bow to your experience.....I was enticed by thon wlesh duathlon in October you see
this week has been mostly chasing mtbs around the new red route at Gisburn on my old steel crosser. some don't half look bewildered when I catch them on the climbs!! :)
this guy has filmed the red route including the black rock garden at the top(which can be done on a crosser to!!)

dont see any dogs at all these days up there, folk will get put off these days as it does get busy at the weekends since they put all the new tracks in
more springs and fat tyres than you wave a stick at!
Good training for coed y brenin though
I used to knock about one on the (road) hills around my hometown when I was in my late teens, but I've not been on one since...... (bike that is....)
Thanks for the offer Han
Sneaked out on the crosser for 90 minutes of mud, blood, boggy moors, stony lanes and swampy tracks. Got bollocked off the wife when I came back due to mud on kitchen floor (that was after I'd hosed myself down outside)
Done about 60 (dry) miles including a lap of the ironman UK cycle course (112 miles - approx 36 miles x 3).
Some very very fit people out there today. Great support for all the riders and good crowds heading back to Adlington and Rivington.
(and if anyone wants a collections of drinks bottles there are dozens around the course!!)
Will go into Bolton later and watch the end of the marathon.
Mostly chasing young baggy pants mtbers around Gisburn on my old crosser again fer crack!!:D
(im getting to old for this!!) but its great fun
They say "you dident quite catch me" naaa not quite mi bikes older than you and you have brakes that work and suspension:confused:
I have got a compact and I am not afraid to use it! (To get up the Devil's Staircase) :D
130 odd kms and about 3000 metres of ascent...
Fan bloody tastic ride, I tell you! Wales is so incredibly beautiful... more about the route and a link to pictures to follow, as this was a TdG style ride. I was even wearing my King of the Mountains jersey for good measure :)
Tell me the route...I wanna go!:D
16 miles along the Manifold valley and back, with my eldest (5) on a tag-along. I'm ashamed to say I was pretty tired by the end.
