Head torch run this morning!!! 7.30 am and it was dark and raining hard. need to start building mileage so forced my self out for a 10 mile hilly road.
Just got home in time for the heavy rain to change to torrential :)
Feel happier for it now. Turbo tonight I think.
5 miles, another one on the roads. The joys of house hunting for the remainder of today.
Half hour wet hilly road run and half hour conditioning. Squat holds, tuck jumps, planks etc. Legs on fire
Good grief, 2 1/2hrs on the local. Pound for pound some of the hardest terrain in effort terms I've dealt with all year.
When the heather was short enough to see over the going was good.
Treadmill session..
10 miles, 2 mile warm up then charlie spedding style sess.. pyramids at marathon pace, 6:05-6:10 min mile, 1,2,3,4,5,4,3,2,1 mins with matched rest of preceeding effort at 7:00 min mile pace... made the time pass.. nice enough..
Followed yesterdays 3.5 miles early am on treadmill, then 9 miles on road at 6:13 pace with last 4 all 6:05 pace or less.. not had a day off since mid october but finally feeling fresh after the marathon in mid october.. actually feeling more psyched for training than ever.
Early morning trip up Back Tor and Lost Lad, not much as it was more of a recovery run on a beautiful morning....
Then up mickledon for another easy session. probably junk miles but the day was too nice to waste.
OK, I'll stop complainingQuote:
Treadmill session..
No such thing as junk miles if you enjoyed themQuote:
probably junk miles
Wow I really am an amateur - I did a similar session today but at 6:30 min mile and 8 min mile recoveries (which I thought was too fast). I can honestly say I felt seriously sick for an hour after the run...........Although I did have curry, chips and rice about 2 hrs before my run!! 6:30's are nearer to my 5k pace so maybe too fast.
Lovely out there at the moment, steady half marathon'ish on trails/fields and back lanes.
4 mile recovery across the beach today for me
Currently in the USA's most dangerous city..
There's been 69 murders so far this year, in a population of 77,000... compared to London.. 111 with a population of 7-8 million.
So Treadmill session again... similar to yesterday 10 miles, 2 mile warm up and then pyramids of 1,2,3,4,5,4.5,3.5,2.5,1.5 then 5 to finish at 6:05 pace with 2% incline for later reps with matched rest for all but the latter ones..
And I thought Morecambe was rough!
Camden, NJ, just outside of Philly centre.. over the river..
Crikey IainR, google throws up some shockers for that place.
No wonder you motivated to train so hard, and on a treadmill
DP Warts Revenge race
Designed to be about 8 miles over the roughest, wettest terrain in the peak. Made even wetter by the recent heavy rain. Blowing like mad as well
feet like blocks of ice at the end.
Nice Pint of Belgian Blue at the finish.....
Steady couple of hours over the Strines and Derwent area. Beautiful day for it but very wet, muddy and windy!
Did a nice run on the Monsal Trail with daughter on her bike, ten miles nice and steady in sunshine after all the rain on Saturday night, Sunday am....... Where do you run from Ian? I am at Great Longstone and am training for my first Grindleford Gallop, guess its not a hard core fell run but having done most of the hills on the race route it is tough hills.
Quality place.. every murder gets a new cross on the lawn outside the city hall... quite a stark illustration watching them spread.. 1 in 1000 murder rate... mainly drugs related but young kid blinded in cross fire only recently.. plus a fair few parents killing kids whilst hallucinating due to drugs.. quite horrific.
Sheeesh, St Andrews I think is a tad nicer. Good job really;
18.6 miles on the Fife Coastal Path to St Andrews
Will do Ian, beautiful area to run. I dont get up there as much as I would like to. My friend has shown me a wonderful route thats just stunning, Foulstone moor to ladybower and back, nice loop. Theres a wee valley that just amazes me everytime.
I'm a bit of a headtorch beginner meself, only had one a few months. Alpkit to start me off, fab bit of kit does the job!
I still grimace thinking about that 'fire access' track
Planning a 10 mile run tomorrow. Current plan is out near Quermore unless anyone can recommend a good run near Morecambe.
6 x 3 minutes hill reps on road, felt strong tonight
5k speed session on the treadmill, 2k on the rower & a mile in the pool.
Friday, did a 12 mile trail run with my mate.
Sunday, 2 hours on forest tracks, last few miles with head torch.
Today to the hill, and my first run in the snow this winter, about three quarters the way up Hartfell I hit snow, there was a strong northerly wind and then low cloud, I love the rhythmic crunch crunch as I climb in the snow. There was ice on the wire fence and not another foot print in the mud or snow from top to bottom, at the trig’ point I wee my name in the snow, still a little boy in there some where.:o
Coming backdown with the wind on my back and descending when I hit the grass it was almost as if I was floating over the top of the ground. Great feeling.
ATB

2 hours conditioning last night.. Core work and cardio mainly.
An hours cross fit this morning. Sprints, kettlebell swings, chin ups, burpees, box jumps etc. Ankles a bit tender so keeping mileage down.
Just aint the same in the park is it!
13.5 miles this morning .... all off road and hilly 1hrs late for work but what a fantastic morning!
Helm Crag ridge and then back down Steel Fell to Grasmere. Stunning day to be in the Lakes. We're owed this type of weather after the last few months.
Hill Reps, taken at just over BG pace.
6 Reps of 1030ft in 0.8 miles
Ahem - editorial update :)

Similar here, two short, steep hills repped 4 times giving 1000ft in 4 miles.
Superb head torch run last night.
Woke up to another fantastic morning so quick pack up and by 7.45 I was on my way for the 15 minute drive to Crowden. At 9.00am still 4 miles from Crowden having been sat in my car stuck on the Woodhead due to a crash nearer Glossop I dumped the car in the big layby by Black Clough and ran 3 miles down the reservoirs to the track where you cross the southern road to get on to the Longdendale Trail.
Starting my stop watch I took the line up to wildboar clough and over Bleaklow to Shelf moor trig 48 minutes so was pretty pleased with that. the route came flooding back. certainly made easier by the crystal clear skies. I continued on my Trigger reccie until I picked up the PW then turned left and returned to Bleaklow. I didn't fancy running miles back up the res to the car so I though HPM reccie and headed off to Bleaklow stones over frozen bogs. I didn't take my usual line as I thought I'd explore a bit. I was surprised how grassy it was all becoming. not many bogs at all and those that were there were frozen over.
From the stones I headed North until nature dragged me in to Black Clough and from there back to the car.
Didn't see any one at all whilst on the hill. A good run for the soul.
Pictures from the above.
Check out the last one taken by mark Harvey at 8.00pm last night
