I spoke to two ladies from the organising team today who had run leg 2 and had gone straight to the end of leg 5 to do the leg finishing timimg. They were still there, cold and wet waiting for the last (lost) finishers at 3.30pm. An awesome effort, Thankyou
Thanks, I'll be referring the volunteers to this thread. It's a monumental event to organise and we couldn't do it without our club runners, very few of whom are fell types, who run and also do all those little jobs that make the whole thing tick....as you have astutely observed.
I have to agree with everything that has been said about organisation & marshalling. A fantastic effort by everybody involved. Thank you. And a massive thank you to the marshalls atop Stoodley Pike, on leg 2, who, when we arrived, we're getting battered by wind & rain. I was glad to be running !

Massive thanks to everyone from Meltham AC - our first CWR and everyone loved it! Amazing to see all the club colours huddled together like Penguins in some torrential rain at times as we waited the first batons to arrive! Plenty of familiar faces (didn't get a chance to say hello to Phil Hobbs) and everyone made us feel really welcome in what must be an organisational nightmare. We will be back next year - with two teams!!

Massive well done to CVFR on your win, and to Whafedale & Barlick too! Trawden will be back for another do next year (although maybe not challenging these boys!)

Thanks to all the organisers for a splendid event, it was great to be part of it. I've done the CWR many times in winter but this was my first time in May, funny as it's still cold and drafty at Wainstalls! There was a photographer at the road crossing in Wainstalls and near Queensbury on leg 5, has anyone seen his pictures at all?

Horsforth Harriers men's team 18th overall, which I'm pretty pleased with given we're not a fell running club. Only gripe is how tight the cut off is in leg 4. Our leg three team (our weakest leg) came in ten mins before cut off and me and my partner thrashed ourselves to try and make the cut for leg 5 but missed it by hardly anything. Really annoying when our time was 6th fastest for the leg. Still, not a big deal, our target was to get round inside the cut offs and our leg 5 team pulled it back so overall target achieved.
Thanks Halifax for organising it again. Next year can we have less rain please?
Aye up Rob. Thing is, the leg 4 finish at Wainstalls is the most exposed spot and is marshalled by runners who have already run leg 1....into a headwind and the rain. Bear in mind that they have to hang around for the slowest runners on your leg who will have rolled in about an hour and a half after you. Well done though.... 1hr 13 is seriously quick for that (the toughest, I think) leg. You should have come to say hello...I was the fella with the camera at changeover (at Blackshaw Head).

I appreciate all that manothemoors, and I'm not really complaining. Just seems odd that the next leg cut off is more generous is my point. Anyway not to worry. Still happy with our team and our performance, and they all enjoyed it with the exception of our leg 4 ladies who had to drop out after one of them burst a hamstring.Quote:

THIS EMAIL HAS BEEN SENT TO ALL CAPTAINS OF TEAMS THAT RAN IN THE RACE, THE FELL RUNNING ASSOCIATION AND RESIDENTS OF CRAGG VALE
I am sorry to have to inform you that following the Calderdale Way Relay we have received a significant number of complaints from residents of Cragg Vale, this is the start point for leg 2 of the race.
The complaints are numerous and include rudeness and inconsiderate behaviour to residents from runners, illegal and inconsiderate car parking, the opening of gates allowing lambs to escape and one runner thumping the roof of a passing residents car.
I'm sure you will agree with us that this behaviour is totally unacceptable and whilst limited to a small number or runners it reflects very badly not only on Halifax Harriers Athletics Club but the whole fell running community in general.
We have worked hard over a number of years to build a relationship with the residents of Cragg Vale, who quite rightly have concerns over a major event on a Sunday morning. This hard work has now been undone by the actions of a few inconsiderate runners.
Fell races cannot take place without the support of landowners and local communities and the actions of a few on Sunday morning have given us a major hurdle to cross if we are going to be able to hold the event again next year.
The Harriers have organised this event for 30 years and this is the first time we have received complaints of this nature, it is very disappointing and leaves me personally dismayed.
I know that the majority of runners will act with consideration to others and I would like to ask you that if you know of any runner who caused any difficulty at Cragg Vale that you please tell them that they are not welcome at next years event.
I am sorry to have to share an email of this nature with you. We fully understand that this was the actions of a few and would appreciate your co-operation moving forward to ensure it does not happen again.

Anyone going to the Leg 4 recce in the morning?
Can't make sat leg 3 recce but the notes (without map) and the gamin upload contradict.the notes say bear right and pass rake farm to the left then follow the walled path while the garmin trace fooks up to just under stannall stones.i know all roads lead to Rome but which is correct.farm or stones
I meant leg 3 actually. At that point on the route it's hard to go wrong as the path is walled either side. Just past Rake farm you climb about 50 feet then meet a T junction. Bear right and you are on course.
In other words, ignore Garmin.
