At last, proper fell running weather ! Only 6 miles after work, but full of bogs, rain & clag. Cracking !
wow.. good ascent. not a great week,.. may just touch 60 but no ascent.
Physio today, back in sheff so took advantage, she thought I was chronically fatigued with a really weak core, glut medius, psoas, piriformis, hip flexors.. so backing off for a month.. 50-60 miles a week but no hard sessions but try and live healthier and get right again. I basically took no time off after the worlds and think its caught up with me..
I can run 7-8 miles but then get really sore in my hip/pelvis so knew something was wrong..
Set out for a 10 k with my dog last night. We warmed up at home for 15 mins. Me - star jumps, squat jumps, high knees etc. Dog - couch to coich sprints and jumps. He was knackered out and so after just short of 2 miles I was dragging him round. Home for the poor boy it was. I was going to head back out but a plate of tea changed my mind. Maybe I should be out not and not on here..
A lovely headtorcher for me and Harry last night with heavy rain and hill fog making it even better. It was my first evening headtorcher of the season but its headtorching all the way from now on till next March for weekday evenings.
FTOP reccie with Mrs Stagger, Martyn P, kickin em, Johnmc, and a couple of others, oh and Gem:cool:
4 miles of woodland trail with my dog followed by squat jumps at home after until I felt a little sick..
Good stretch off now relaxxxxing!
10km on West Burra. I declined from leaving the island.... Well, when running at least. There was the matter of pie and chips to attend to in Scalloway.
I can barely move.
7.9 miles and just under 356m climb - ish. Felt rather rough so cut short and took it steady until I realised I could catch the bus home if I hammered the last mile and half. So a good warm up, bit of climbing and some speedwork to finish. Terrible weather.. :)
Finally getting back into it again.. it's been a month of issues each hip but last 3 days have been 13.3 miles friday night, 7 min miling on forest trails, 11.1 miles 7:20 min miling on road and trail and 15.1 tonight on road and trail, again 7:20 pace.. so hoping I can get a good solid month of training and have a crack at JFk50 in the states..
Good luck with the JFK50!
Do you use heart rate training Iain?
Strides in with dust pan and brush. Hauls vacuum cleaner out of the cupboard.
Approx 65.5m and 9000ft for the week. Feeling pretty good.
Finally back to steady mileage, lots of stretching and rolling so running from the gym more...

Great run out with Murt from Braemar today. (Great to meet you fella)
24m, not sure on ascent just yet. Awaiting GPS results. Took in Lochnagar, a couple of other fairly amorphous Munros and Morrone. Good day on the hill, with the weather just the right side of foreboding.
Yesterday I ran the race route of the Hurkling Howler under torch light.
Today I ran 15 miles, longest run for ages. stunning weather on Howden and back via some of my favourite spots in the peak, 15 miles 2000ft
Pictures here
Thoroughly enjoyable week, 61.5m 11745ft
Hoping to cram a few extra miles into next week, then follow that up with a crazed beer and crisps frenzy. With Toblerones and Chocolate Oranges for good measure.
7am - 4k run. 3 x small loops with a hill sprint and 20 burpees. 6 x 200m sprints. A pyramid workout comprising of 5, 10, 15, 10, 5 x burpees, pressups, burpees with a pressup, burpees with a tuck jump, situps and leg thrusts. 3 x 100m sprints downhill and carrying partner on back 100m uphill. Finished off with 6 hill sprints.
Weather was surprisingly gorgeous! Feeling a little tired now!
20.04 miles... just as the storm hit NE Germany, pretty horrific.. luckily got to one spot as the firebrigade were clearing power lines which had come down.. ran another 12 miles and they were just finishing clearing a tree that had come down.. don't think they were too impressed to see me out... slow though 7:40 pace.. but wasn't pushing it at all.
Oh for ***** sake.Quote:
20.04 miles
18.05 miles for me.
Steady day yesterday 5.7 at lunch then 7.5 in the gym on the old tread mill.. 4 x 1 mile reps at 5:30-5:20 pace.. then naked sauna time..
lain what recovery period do you do when using treadmill 1mile 2 min? just curious as never used treadmill but the gym is open 24 hr
are you still giving the bg a crack next month ?
400m at 10 min mile so 2.5 minutes or so... I only use the treadmill for sessions really.. the time passes quite quickly and I do think it helps you improve turnover but add at least 0.5-1%..
Not sure.. I have the JFK50 miler in the states so will see but been struggling with injuries for the past month so may have a total break after that and then target London... sort of depends how I feel after it.
thanks for info lain
with the air miles you tally up do you not suffer with jet lag in your races
i have been thinking about doing longhaul distance runs but then jumping off a plane into a race you,ve got to be fatigue it does,nt matter who you are
i dont run at your pace but if you run 7min mile normally are you saying run at 6.30 pace on treadmill
Sorry I meant 0.5-1% incline.. then its a similar effort.
Re jet lag I find it huge, maybe 1 week to get over it. In two weeks I have philly half marathon the day after a transatlantic flight, I'll be way off my pace.. 2-3 minutes. My guts take a week to get over the plane food.. plus fatigue.. germs...
I did the edinburgh marathon with a polish international a couple of years ago who had just flew over the day before and he suffered his time was down by about 15 minutes and thats just of a flight from poland
got what you mean now with the treadmill ready for the late night time and early morning sessions when its pi--ing down out or theres ice on deck when we are reduced to jumping in the gutter to get pace
Got out for first time in ages!! Not great but did 7m at slow slow pace around the back of Ingleborugh from Clapham.
Steady week so far.. 13-14 today then 10k tomorrow and an evening run and its 90 for the week..
Finally no discomfort at all, did 10 miles wednesday at 6:13 min miling and no issues, last 5 around 6:05 then a steady 10 last night.
Almost 14 on the roads/trails today.. 100m of ascent.. thats as good as it gets..
But 91 for the week but full of a head cold.. feel shite...
BUt 2 more weeks of training then JFK 50 so should manage 5 weeks averaging high 80's at least so should be OK to get through it..
Not much running from me the last week or so, mostly down the gym. Had a steady 4.4 miles Friday night with some friends.
Trained in the park this morning for an hour and a half total of 5k running between doing lots of different exercises. Box jumps, squat jumps, pull ups, pushups, situps, burpees etc. Explosive and varied. Feeling good for it!
Maybe a long run later or tomorrow.
Good week for me, 75 miles and 11000ft.
Knackered now though, sore joints and week legs. Fortunately next up is a rest week. Currently feels like it might be a rest fortnight. But hopefully a few easy days should sort me out.
6.8 miles at 7 am.. don't know why i bother feel shattered all day after getting up at 6 am for some toast and a coffee.. averaged 6:40 but Strava says 6:30... but it was 6:40 but most of the 6 miles after I met with a training partner were around 6:15-6:25.. finally some blue sky.
2 tasty runs over the last two days, feeling quite positive again.
yesterday I took advantage of the glorious weather and did 12 miles up and around Howden Outer edge and the aircraft wrecks
Photos
Today was a pacey hilly 10 mile 1500ft road run, felt good.
Classic treadmill session last night.. 10k in 42 mins, with 2 k warm up then 5 x 1k at 3:16 pace, 400m recovery at 6:00 pace, then cool down...
Today its sunny so a nice 20 miler calls.. found out our accounts are frozen so all the recent arrivals won't have contract renewals so more than likely unemployed and needing to move house. I think I'm now at house number 10 in the last 2 years..
