Win Hill 1:15:00
Hope (drinks) 1:27:00
Lose Hill 1:51:00
Mam Tor 2:16:00
cutoff 2:20:00
seem to have mislaid the map that I lovingly knitted for my recce a few weeks back - do we know if there are race maps on sale on the day?
If your struggling to get one sorted let me know and i'm sure i can do a photocopy of mine. It's 2 sides of A4. One for each half. it's got some notes on it that i have made during my training runs.
Looking forward to the race.. As for the up down or round from GK i'm heading round as that's what i've recce'd... I will for next year though recce the up down as some hill training..
See you all there.
Glen
There will be some copies of the A3 Skyline Racemap available for sale at registration on Sunday morning, printed on waterproof paper and packed with hints and tips, you can't go wrong.
And no, I'm not selling them...
20 min to spare - cut off is 2:30
it does seem a mean cut off. probably makes the back end of the field twice as slow in the 2nd half from killing themselves to make it.
Easy AndyA-hole,
who's getting all excited now?
I completely understood what you were saying and, although a fair point, compulsory kit is just that... compulsory, but there's always someone who wants to moan about it. It means that race organisers can be 100% confident that folk have what they need on the hills. Start giving either/or options, making last minute changes or trying to second guess (that's all a long-range forecast is) the weather and you're asking for a visit from Mr Cock-up, people turning up with the wrong kit and arguments on the day.
Keep it simple, re-inforce it and life is easy. It's then up to the individual, if they feel there are better options for the prevailing conditions, to carry that extra kit.
the foil blanket & bag I have are both a lot heavier and bulkier than my waterproof - so I'd rather take the latter as an emergency option (on top of the pertex, which I agree is the most practical bit of kit), also cos in extreme winter conditions I might actually run in it.
so anyway, what shoes are we wearing!? :D
The way it's p155ing it down here at the mo, I'd go with studded flippers....
fb
Other than the wind, forecast on MWIS looks good... but the ground is saturated in Sheffield this morning, so I assume it's the same on top?
I was going to run in trail shoes (New Balance 840s) as my feet are a bit sore at the moment, but am now considering fell shoes again.... Aargh - decisions!
Probably going for the 2 jackets approach though, pertex to run in, and cheap but sealed waterproof if I get hurt.
I wouldn't fancy coming down to Twitchell Farm in anything but studs at the moment..
I think I'd still be tempted with the 840 option. Comfort for the full ride except for the two fields to Twitchill when you risk skidding on yer ar*e (which is quite quick anyway!).
aye that's my outlook - kanadias
Gonna be mucky, mucky, mucky. Our fields are saturated today, lots o' standing water. Great fun for ducks! :p
See you all tomorrow. :D
I've sais before on another thread and i will say it again. Who is going to Edale today and camping. Come on someone must be.
Is parking likely to be a problem? I last did the Skyline 4 years ago and I remember it being a bit of a squeeze.
last year it was ok we had a farmers field for a nominal fee although this may be wet. You can use main carpark but you will have to pay full wack.
I'm sure Andy will have it covered.
I'll be busy on kitcheck so if I don't pick on some of you first time just prod me.
Il be there somewhere probably just go for a run and see you all on course
I'd better park in the hard standing area then, thanks for the tip off Ian. I nearly got stuck in the field last week at Shatton, my traction is rubbish.
NB 840 for me, I'll just have to risk going down win hill arse first.
Car Parking
Arrangements have been made for car parks for the event. The Pay and Display Car Park should be left free for Edale's normal Sunday tourist trade, thereby not depriving local businesses of their income.
As you arrive in Edale village centre you will be directed to the parking areas to be used. Please follow the directions of the parking marshals on the day. The areas you will be directed to is free of charge to runners and helpers.
Having literally just returned from Edale despite posts to the contrary, the ground in Edale is nowhere near being waterlogged, and having just had a site meeting with the farmer, we do not anticipate any problems with people getting stuck in the parking field. Quote "Not as wet as you've had it in the past"
The main parking area is a short walk away from Registration in the Village Hall. It is probably advisable to take your kit with you for IDP's kit check when you go to register.
The forecast is for a breezy, sunny day (unfortunately!). Hope you all have fun
Cheers
Thanks Greg
Re registration and kit check.
Please register first as you will need your race number with the kit check. there will be a kit requirement list up by registration and kit check.
there is also a spot check later before the start so no dumping gear after kitcheck as you will be 15 minutes away from carpark and will miss the start.
There are spot checks at the end for those who appear to be carrying nothing.
Last minute tip folks
When you park , take your kit with you to be checked or you will end up just walking back to your car, and its gets backed up a bit. All down to IDP:eek: with his thorough checking system.
For the ones who are panicking about the cut off, DONT. The race is going to be a hard slog up to Brown Knoll. It wont be wise to use everything up before Mam Nick.
Bradwell, Hope Valley, 6:35
Can't see Bradda edge, cloud down to 300m
Interesting!
Cloud's now lower than the top of stannington here, so probably less than 300m....
As promised in the forecast, wall to wall sunshine all day, pretty dry underfoot and lots of smiling, tired people at the finish.
Great to meet Manhar, who relieved me at the parking field, marshalling I mean.
IDP's kit check was generous this year with windproof kit allowed and definitely suited to the conditions.
Just went in the co-op in Bradwell on the way home to get my ibuprofen and stella, and I'm sure I just bumped into Daz H coming out with his can of Coke and his packet of ten fags. That must be the secret to his high performance... Mind, it's a long drive back to Ilston.
Excellent day, well organised (thanks AndyJ) and rivers of tea and mountains of cakes at the end.
