I didn’t doubt your credentials good sir, nor suggest I took prizes off your sideboard.
I was remarking only on geography, that cow and calf is indeed a view of what you could call your back garden, almost in view of your house!
As for those such as regular irregular are not a patch on some:
You didn’t mention yorkshireman?
No need for a mantrap, some posters know who I am, indeed I have run with them in recent times. Run with them On fells- Despite DTs opinion otherwise.
Whether spectators would classify it as running is disputable: being called a runner is a victory these days: suggesting the commenter might benefit from spec savers,
I think you take yourself too seriously, it’s just some comments on what I observe.
Let’s take one of your oft quoted demons….. the variety of Scientific advice given to Govt/Boris…., if, as you appear to have, a scientific background you will be aware that this is how scientists behave, even where the full “pedigree” of the process or problem is known there will still be widely differing and opposing views. For something not as well understood, like Covid, the divergence will be very wide. I have no problem with you posting this, however I object when you continually refer to this as some terrible misdeed on the government when it is an expected norm.
The Brown pension problem, again oft repeated, Brown was chancellor from 1997 and PM from 2007, this is not his problem, it has been about far longer than that, as an example I worked for a company with many thousands of employees who recognised & addressed the pension problem 15 years before Brown.
Children missing out on education is not good, everyone agrees, but to continually blame the Teachers unions, oh my, they are devils aren’t they, is it really their problem? if among their 100’s of demands they said we refuse to mark any pupils work I think even I could negotiate my way round that. From what I read on the Scottish Govt website there was a similar initial impasse but after a week or so the two sides agreed a way forward, the demands were a bit over the top but understandable given the virus. But you don’t rate nippy Nicola, again oft repeated.
Again I agree industry will be severely impacted with consequences for all of us, and will be worse for those who are more vulnerable.
I certainly do not laugh at financial instability; I do laugh when you blame everything and anything on the left and I do hope the current lot in power improve.
I have no problem with opposing views, there’s good info in a lot of your posts (whether I agree with it or not), and it stimulates a lively forum discussion, I do have a problem with oft repeated guff.
Steph. I won’t go blow for blow. You know my views
But you may recollect the NEU said just that. As a list of 100 demands to return to work “ no homework to be marked was included” . No matter whether negotiated or not it proves bad faith.
The simple statement should have been, schools like loo roll factories stay open. Now what must we do to make that happen? Instead 30 percent of teaching staff self isolated taking advantage of a holiday, screwing others who must work to eat but now must look after kids. So the schools closed.
Brown followed the FED into the same central bank cheap money culdesac, and the Cheap money bubble blew up in their faces. Bernanke and others have since admitted the fed created the problem, and their “ cure “ of cheap money was worse than the disease, That much is history, We are now in so deep we can never get out. Country debt is so big, it can never allow sensible interest rates. There is a trillion public pension deficit based on the return. It was a disgrace brown blaming companies for his decision to destroy pensions. The euro is bust and many banks with it, many have never recovered.
So yes, it was all browns fault. He stole my pension.
MPs have created millions who rely on equity returns, who are getting hammered. Whilst MPs and the public sector all thieve a pension bigger than they pay in tax.
ALL MPs are to blame for failure to deal with the problem. they created zero savings return. They should halve their own pensions to allow for it, and with it all public sector. I am just as critical of Hammond for failing to deal with browns problem. Too much of a vested interest.

Steph wins the award for understatement of the year!
And it's only July ;)
Following Steph's (partial) lead in trying to drag this thread back on topic (i.e., Coronavirus, for those who have forgotten). Has anyone else seen the report on the BBC website about the leak from Boris Johnson's office? Apparently, Johnson (with Dominic Cummings' permission, obviously) is planning to announce on Sunday that fell racing can restart from 11th July with certains conditions. Hand gel to be carried by every competitor as part of the mandatory kit, hand gel stations at each stile and gateway, and face coverings to be worn by all competitors at all times. And every competitor will have to carry with them a smartphone with the government's track & trace app running (apparently, Mat Hancock has guaranteed that this will be ready and fully tested by 2:45 PM on Wednesday) and - and this is the kicker - the smartphone has to have GPS running. It's not clear whether or not the face coverings need to be waterproof.
is a buff a face covering?
:D
and there you have it: lazy teachers!Quote:
Instead 30 percent of teaching staff self isolated taking advantage of a holiday,
Utterly, utterly rephrehensible crap from this funnel of shite.
Yet again
Is there anyone on here sympathetic to the Anti Vaxxers movement?
For the avoidance of doubt, the report I referenced in my previous post doesn't actually exist. (The post was intended to be a joke.) But the following report is, apparently, true. Note that I'm making no comment on this. I'm simply bringing it to the attention of anyone who might be interested.

Britain mulls joining EU's coronavirus vaccine scheme
LONDON/BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Britain is discussing with the European Union whether it will join a plan by the bloc to secure supplies of potential vaccines against COVID-19, officials in London and Brussels said on Friday.
The UK-EU talks, first reported by the Financial Times, represent a test of the cooperation required to tackle international emergencies after Brexit.
The EU is planning to spend around 2 billion euros (1.80 billion pounds) on the advance purchase of vaccines in testing, on behalf of the 27 EU states.
[...]
You're saying it was all Brown's fault? Surely the EU must have been at least partly to blame? (I'm sorry. I must stop calling you Shirley.) I thought you thought that the EU was to blame for everything, so to discover that there's one thing that you think they're completely blameless for is something of a surprise. Go on, at least make them 10% to blame.
He decided on central bank mandate.
He raided my pension scheme.
He was so drunk on cheap money funding he refused to see the bubble.
I did, I said so in 2006
He failed to put in safeguards against derivative multiplication of risk or use of risk assets as collateral. He could have protected our banks.
He was in the driving seat!
Then.... having destroyed the return, he plunders companies to pay for his pension shortfall , and adds a trillion to the cost of public sector pensions.
Need I go on? He added 30 percent salary to doctors whilst cutting their responsibilities , the seeds of pressure on A and E. He lied to Blair about tax credits ( see Blair’s biography) saying they would cost 250 million, they actually cost 30 billion, all of which had to be paid by tories. The aggregation of which is most of our national debt.
Now we cannot raise savings rates because of national debt!
He dug a hole so deep we will never go out,
For sure, the FED and ECB did the same. But they didn’t run Britain. Brown did.
"I thought you thought that the EU was to blame for everything".
But he hates Marxists more.
Teachers too.
Brown is to blame for our accession to lisbon treaty, the expansion of which and constitutiin is the origin of many of our problems with EU. Still browns problem.
Blair’s failure to control free movement in conjunction with expansion and the euro did the rest.
For the record without the euro, I think EU may have been beneficial.
Are you capable of discussion without expletives?
I am quoting the percentage used by my lefty local authority as the reason they said it wasnÂ’t safe to open schools. Argue with them not me. Because of Insufficient manning they said. . You judge for yourself why far more teachers were seemingly affected than in general population, or those who need to work to eat , who wanted to work but ended up looking after kids when their teachers abdicated their responsibilities. . Part of it is irresponsible teaching unions doing project fear - teachers were scared. Why?
Furlough in full pay is called a moral hazard. Also unfair to private sector.
Net result my grandkids missed 3 months school. Disadvantaging their lives.
All I can say is if food factories did what teachers did, we would all have starved, including you.
Gee. So much anger on here.
It's no wonder I prefer rock 'n roll.

Have you found a new toy to replace me?
Can you face me?
But now you can kiss my ass goodbye

Do you feel like suicide?

Does it plague you at night?
Do you feel good feel good?
You talk like a big business tycoon
You're just a hot air balloon
So no one gives you a damn
You're just an overgrown schoolboy
Let me tan your hide
A dog with disease

Death on two legs
You're tearing me apart
Death on two legs
You've never had a heart (you never did) of your own (right from the start)
Insane you should be put inside
You're a sewer rat decaying in a cesspool of pride
Should be made unemployed

Interesting stat. In the last four pages of this thread, as viewed from my phone, of the 33 posts made, 13 have been (mostly long winded) Oracle posts! He is single handedly swamping the conversation in exactly the same way always injured did
Oracle - I get the impression that most jokes would go over your head even if you were on stilts, standing on the back of a giraffe, on the summit of Ben Nevis, wearing a top hat with a feather in its brim, while bouncing up and down on a trampoline. (I hope my grammar is correct in that sentence - it's supposed to mean that you would be wearing the top hat, not that Ben Nevis would be wearing the top hat.)
Flem. I see nothing funny in my grandkids deprived of education. A generation of private sector deprived of a pension. indeed mr moles insults were not intended as humerous.
Corona is serious.
My opinion on it is indicated here.
Something else accounts for country variation.
Tokyo has 30 million people all using the underground.

the nationalist fascist overtone is scary.
Boris Haters and medics with agendas prefer to blame him , but in realily something else accounts for the figures.
I could also suggest German corona “success ” has nothing to do with measures they took: more to do with the fact that Germany equipped Chinese manufacturing over the last two decades. A large flow of people between. So they have been more exposed to milder coronas. One of Germany’s now economic woes is China now copies not buys their stuff.
It might explain Portugal too. Here we have many Chinese shops and population where in U.K. late shops are often Pakistani . So a transit to and from China, topping up antibodies And transmitting mild coronas On every trip. Is it why Spain suffered more? Less immunity than Portugal?
I’d be interested in miket views on above.
I am reminded of history, many indigenous amazon tribes were wiped out by conquistadores, not by their swords but by European pathogens to which they had no immunity. No doubt their “socialists” blamed their “ boris” for annihilation beyond his control. Their witch doctors blamed their “ Boris” for ignoring advice. Some things never change.
That is the problem we have in north Europe. Less immunity even than Germany.
I’m taking a break.
Combining the topics of Coronavirus and grammar, here's Piers Morgan (who, incidentally, I am not a great fan of) re-tweeting something (apparently) put out by Downing Street. Does anyone think it was addressed to homeless people (i.e., people who live outside)? I really hope this is a spoof or forgery and Downing Street didn't actually put out the tweet. Part of me thinks it's funny but, you know what, if the tweet is genuine it really isn't funny at all. If it isn't genuine at least it serves as a humorous example of why correct grammar is sometimes important. (Pompous arse that I am.)

not for one moment can you think why and how a school might be different to a factory. Instead you take the opportunity to bash the unions and denigrate teachers. Teachers!Quote:
teaching unions doing project fear
You stagger around this forum like a drunk on a bus, shouting the last nonsense they read in the Daily Mail:
“Gordon Brown stole my pension!”
“The Euro is doomed: we need to leave!”
“Teachers are just lazy and want to deprive children of their education!”
“Hitler was a socialist!”
“The Fourth Reich has been achieved without a shot being fired!”
“I'm a close personal friend of Boris Johnson!”
Elbowing your way into other people's conversations with things that have either already been said or are totally irrelevant.
“My brother-in-law once gave water out at the Great North Run! You know what the problem is with that race? It's too far north! If you want to get people to enter a race it has to be somewhere in Yorkshire!”
Then, when someone says you need to just sit down and shut up, you go off on one about how no one can argue with you, it's because you're so analytical and took photos of the dark side of the moon, all on the hush-hush, like. You send them DMs telling them to “cool it” and your “debate” winner is accusing people of being directly responsible for the deaths of children in Italy.
So yes, go and have a break. And have a good look at yourself, you contemptible piece of slime.
You don’t read do you.
Some of those phrases make you the contemptible slime.
Never uttered by me. Nor did I call myself a friend of Boris.
You just see what you want to see.
My references to research were proof inter country research cooperation happens without the EU. CERN is further proof. I was defending the trope that EU was Vital to collaborative research. It isn’t.
Most economists believe the euro is doomed without fiscal integration that can never happen. You are witnessing it with arguments about Eurobonds recovery. You are the odd one out. I don’t read the mail. But I’ve read a lot of serious economic works on the euro and currency failures.
I don’t know what you do for a living, but stay out of research or analytical occupations. You are not objective.
Sure schools are different.
The average age makes them far less vulnerable to covid mortality.
The number of teachers self isolating in my area caused the schools to shut due to manning levels according to my local authority, are you disagreeing with them?
You really do have a chip on your shoulder.
It wouldn’t matter what I said, you would argue and misrepresent it.
Bye, then.
Have a nice rest.

Meanwhile on the human side, I bought computers for poor kids in lockdown to get the small amount of education on offer.
So Which one of us cares about humanity?
You didn’t. Your a socialist, it’s all about spending other people’s money not yours.
And complaining, complaining complaining,
You are happy with unions wrecking education,
You haven’t created any jobs either. I have. I’ve contributed massive amounts of tax.
It’s precisely because I care about the millions the eU forces into destitution, the damage it does to poor countries, I am so opposed to it. Because I care more about people than where I can mooch on holiday.

Now tell me why I should pay any attention to someone who doesn't know the difference between your and you're?
I’m out of here Marco. I’ve answered the question many times.
So very brief.
It has problems both sides. One last time,
Free movement is denuding the poor countries of many of their young people , many of their professionals, so that the countries chances of rebuilding are destroyed. That leaves poor public services , and ever fewer young people to support ever older, in a demographic timebomb, so impossible budgets. Also no skilled workforce for employers to tap. As a young professional engineer what will you do? Accept half the wage and massive taxes, or move to a country with double the wage and half the taxes? People in many of these states voted to joinEU so they could migrate. It wrecks the home country,
If exchange rates allowed economies to balance , and states could set stimulus interest rates , and budget deficits, in the end they could rebuild and economics imbalance would redress. There is no way exchange rates would be what they are if countries floated. That would give local producers the ability to compete with established players in other EU countries. The price of German cars would go into orbit seen by many countries.
But as it is, many states are forced to balance so crippling tax rates and low minimum wage , in order to repay deficit interest. Employers don’t want to go to them because of crippling tax, and lack of skilled workforce, and the euro forces employment and employer migration.
All currency unions without fiscal integration fail, economic migration is a symptom. Much of Southern Europe has massive youth unemployment.
We have the opposite problem. 10 percent population increase, and all the problems that follow like accommodation prices. Those who move to U.K. don’t bring houses with them.
It cannot work.
In some Eastern European countries people must travel a hundred miles to see a doctor.
That is not acceptable.
The doctors, never known for altruism, have moved elsewhere for higher pay. Ask Estonia. The nurse that treated Boris was Portuguese. Needed in Portugal. Probably sending back money to a destitute family in Portugal.
EU needs to target the idea that living anywhere is equally financially attractive.
Then after that movement and mixing is a good idea. Mass economic migration is not.
It hurts both the recipient and leaving state.
I live in Portugal and I see the damage it does, and most of my UK tenants were migrants from Europe. They all told the same story of despair in home countries. I loved them to bits, but they were a symptom of a problem.
Until EU imbalance is sorted, free movement is destroying the EU.
That means total fiscal integration OR abolishing the euro. It is already collapsing under the strain.
Short sighted people in U.K. only see the benefits in the home country.
Not the damage it does.
I care about people.
I care about kids.
When unions, head teachers and left local authorities decided to abuse corona, as did some teachers who selr isolated unnecessarily
I bought poor kids computers to take what little teaching was on offer.
Nothing has changed. My parents were teachers who hated the unions conspiring with left local authorities to abuse the system . Many teachers do care. It only takes a few that don’t. Too many heads are commies.
I live in a bad education area, because it is run by the left.
I also handed families money who could not work because their teachers were at home not at school.
Do you ever think of them?
Did you help them out. That’s a no. The teachers unions dont give a toss.
Your a socialist, to you this is all a game.
You support the union wasters.
And didn’t pay a penny to help.
Which one of us cares?
