ooo-er i have entered as well.
pulled my hamstring on the corridor route last year so want to finish this year
I started running in 2005 and have done this every year since 2006. Despite a discectomy in April (L4/5) I am looking for a pb this year!
I am VERY slow (5:17ish). So, how much time, if any, do I gain by going straight off Sca Fell Pike? I have always returned back down from the trig point in the past.
If 5:17 is VERY slow, not sure how my best time could be described, being over six hours. Hopefully this year I shall be fitter and worth getting in an early entry. I'm certainly fitter than I have been for ten years and with a bit of luck 50 days walking at altitude may help. Doubt if it will improve my descending though.

Now that I am officially in:D will someone lend there views on whether a slow runner gets any advantage going straight down the scree run off Sca Fell Pike?
i missed the scree run lat year and went back down to the col and then turned left to join the corridor route at the bottom of that descent so I went wrong?
also is anyone doing the Pete Bland (apres Borrowdale) 45 mile Sunday bike ride that was sent out to everyone that is accepted for Borrowdale
Sent my form off the other day, another lakes classic am entered in
Got my acceptance letter in the mail last night. Is anyone heading out for a recce of this? I'd be keen to if people were up for it. This weekends a bit short notice (but could possibly squeeze it in sat) and next (which would be ideal) i'm busy all weekend. So for me the best weekend would be the 17th/18th July. But is that then too close to the race in?
EDIT: Just realised i missed a weekend. i could do sunday the 4th (which probably suits me the best)
Oh yeah, i'd be coming up from Sheffield if anyone wants a lift.
Cheers,
Glen
Got my acceptance letter through yesterday. Now slightly/very nervous as it's the longest run I've entered to date and I'm quite slow. Hope my legs can get me round.
Got my race confirmation through today! :)
I won't have chance to recce this race, so if anyone is up for letting me tag onto them for the race, it would be much appreciated! :)
I'm in. Think I'll have to change my forum name now.
I am now having nightmares.....
I am up for a recce on the 18th if anyone fancies joining me. I am after finding good lines from Bessy Boot to Esk hause and any short cuts down the corridor route and off Great Gable.
Should be out 5-6hrs or so with a pint in the Scafell as a reward.
Am heading round it on Saturday 17th - aim to start around 10am. My first AL and need to gain some confidence that I'll get round (with 2 working ankles!).
Being as the route is notoriously rocky - are walshs / mudclaws still the footwear of choice for it?
The route is classic lakes terrain. The first part is hard track, then soft fell (up to Esk Hause) then rocks all the way to Gable, then soft ish to Dale Head and then rocks again to the finish. I would recommend something with grip but not too extreme. I use Montrail Highlander as its a bit of a compromise but would have thought Walsh's are ok. Mudclaws might be a bit uncomfortable on the hard parts.
Mudclaws were fine last year.
so I just missed entry for this - anyone who's thinking of dropping out, please PM me. ta.
Also missed the entry for this, noone fault but mine (usual excuses, working like a dog, went on holiday, completely forgot etc etc). Could i take my place behind ZHR and scrounge a place from someone who got their A into G and entered and can't make it?
Zoot, if you get sorted out and offers come your way, would you be so kind as to nudge them my way? :)
Thanks
ST
I entered this and subsequently broke my Fibula. I thought that I might have an outside chance of recovery but its not happening. So either one of you can have my entry depending on if you have already had offers. Do I have to contact the RO? cant seem to find his details on the Borrowdale web site.
Good luck on this cracker of a course forumites.
