You don't look very happy! Presumably you've tried Helly Lifa baselayers? i find them excellent, when i'm on the push-iron my chest can be cool and airy from the windchill and my back toasty warm from the reflected bodyheat but not sweaty. Yesterday was one of those days, personally i'd have worn a cag to keep the rain out and sweatboxed it but i'm a very cold person in general.
what shoes you got on there stolly?

This is the Settle Hill race route whereas I did this variation, adding in a visit to the trig point on Warrendale Knotts. A lovely run in beautiful weather with poochy in tow.

I am enjoying looking at the pictures. Although I now live in North Wales which is beautiful, I spent my childhood on the Yorkshire moors, school field trips and Duke of Edinburgh hikes were spent in the Dales, there is something good about Yorkshire, must get back I think

A cracking little run out while daughter #2 was rugby training this evening. I didn't have much time or otherwise I would have hacked further into the moors up top but on a damp, overcast but humid evening it was lovely, as well as kind of spooky, running through the woods, over the moor top and back down and around the reservoir. There was hardly anyone else there either which added to the serenity and almost silent beauty of it all.

A grand run out in humid and damp weather around a cracking route. 4 hours 32 start to finish.

Brilliant, thanks Stolly. If you published all these accounts in guide book, I'd buy a copy & would enjoy ticking them all off over the course of a year or so, I dont know your area well at all. You could call it Stollys round, send a certificate of completion designed like a beer map to all who complete them, the pubs will ring with the cry of 'Stollys Round' upon each successful completion!

A trot out from Malham

A lovely run with the Hazmeister tonight around what is to be fair a fairly well trodden route. Great fun all the same made hilarious at times by Harry's antics. He had great fun charging into Janet's Foss chasing sticks and had a temporary mental flip chasing ducks through the beck below Malham Cove. He cruises runs of this distance now and, when he does chose to sprint (typically on downhill bits over broken ground) I have real trouble keeping up.

Simonside Cairns Northumberland - the fell race route but from Lordenshaws carp park

I had to go to Morpeth today for a work meeting and, afterwards, I scooted up towards Rothbury to have a trot around the greater part of the Simonside Cairns fell race route. I have to come up here every now and then for work and last time in January or February I'd asked Freckle, one of the forums token north easteners, for a good run to do while I was at it. She recommended this route but I was then snowed off and hadn't been able to get up there since. Anyway I was back again today on a really warm afternoon (TO weather in fact as Ady would say) and enjoyed a lovely hack round. The first half of the route is open moorland running all the way to a distant forested corner and then on the second side of the triangle its more of the same but now on a seldom used heather and fern covered narrow footpath with the final side completing the triangle being a ridge run over Simonside and other lumps and bumps. It was fantastic open running with massive views to the south and all around once I was on the ridge and, although the route was largely dry, I suspect running this in the winter or after lots of rain would be supremely muddy - I just have to go back and do it again in the pissing rain in November in fact. Absolutely brilliant despite losing the path for 5 minutes at one point and getting scratched to buggery by the heather.

I should have remembered to be a bit careful running with my top off in the north east - two different lady walkers with distinct geordie accents got more than a bit raunchy with me as I ran past. Nothing to get too excited about mind as they were both tapping on a bit :D

Harry is getting on pretty well with sheep, all things considered, especially on the tops where he only comes across them in dribs and drabs. If we're running along, most of the time he will ignore any passing sheep completely but occasionally he will do a short gallivant but soon lose interest. Funnily enough if, for what ever reason, we stop running, like on Sunday to take the odd picture or ironically to give him a breather, Harry can then have too much time to think (and come up with devious schemes) and will suddenly shoot off, having seen a sheep in need of chasing. Not stopping in the first place or slipping his lead on usually sorts that out though :)Quote:

Well, let me first of all start with the apology to Stolly for hijacking his thread for socialising. I'm sure he won't mind.
I was doing OK and on the up in respect of getting out on the hills at the weekends. I was in Ireland last week and took the opportunity to get out two evenings running. All god until on the second evenings run I hurt my ankle! Not sure what or how, but it hurts, can't run on it and it is swollen up below the ankle bone.
Self diagnosis using t'interweb says its a sprained ankle (GRADE 1), but going to doc's in 30 mins to get a 2nd opinion.
Other than that all's well. Take care of yourself and get well soon. Would put a big smiley on the end of my msg if I knew where to find them on this new style forum!!

The route
A lovely jog out with Harry last night, made all the more 'thrilling' due to Harry rolling (and writhing) in poo (suspiciously like human poo... urgh!). Luckily we only met one lot of (horrified) walkers before I could wash him down in the pool below Catrigg Force. Added to that we had our normal couple of widths across the swimming pool at the Foss before jogging back along the river soaking wet.... and not quite so smelly
