Just wondered if anyone else is planning on staying over at the venue on the Fri eve? Just trying to decide what to do....!
I am. Its a fair old drive from Lancaster.
Yes. Last year took our van and drove t start using map memory. Camped in car park along with several others. believe some also arrived and slept? in sports centre.
Hoping to do same this year.
Live in reston - is someone wantif to try to vehcile share? ( prepared to share transport rather than bed in van!)
I have never kipped in the hall, I prefer a good nights sleep, and by all accounts there is no chance of that in the hall,
I sleep in my Van in the car park and Have noticed quite a few sleeping in there cars.
Loved RR when it was run in December but it lost it`s appeal to me when it was moved to October,
Have fun all
ive got a b+b a mile away, stayed in hall last time and it wasnt a good nights sleep for me. although did i read orgy ?????? only done it in dec so see what its like i oct.
That is what i was wondering......I have a van i can sleep in and thought i may get a better nights sleep in there also than in a hall full of people! Fab! I may see you all on the car park then!
Never done this one and was toying with the idea of giving it a go? Is anyone on here travelling from the Dukinfield/Manchester area who wouldn't mind help towards the cost of petrol and such like? Also looking at the possibility of sleeping in the Hall the night before. Sounds like a random journey of self discovery?
Karen - just sorting out my stuff for weekend - remind me to give you some 9bars!!
Yes please. Just sorting out my route- over the tops or cowardly round M62 etc. Not keen on dark etc in the van.
Also need to decide on footwear yet as so many of my shoes seem to be at the trashed stage!
Hope it is drier than the Lakes were last Sunday!
Does anyone know if it's been raining for the past 5 days around Rotherham like it's been doing in Manchester? Please say it hasn't (but I'll deal with it if it has ).
Well, if Leeds is awash (and it is) what hope for Rotherham?
Thanks Paul. Crosslites for me then.
It finally stopped last night and the sun is shining for the first time in nearly a week. Saturday should be dry and still mild.
I'm quite looking forward to this again. I've been dreaming of colourful cartoon maps and PBs. Only one will be real.
so def shoes with grip needed!? how much is tarmac / fields trying to decide between traily shoes and felly shoes any advice?
No idea what the % of each is. start - lots of tarmac footpath/ cycle track and throughout race a fair bit altogether but also some very muddy fields and the bit near the abbey and kepplers are both off road.
Not sure which I'll wear yet but taking crosslites and Vasques
in that case i may wear one of each!! Ha ha! x
think im gona wear wave harriers 50 mile is a bit too far in fell shoes for me, there'll be room at the back with me nick if the pb eludes you :w00t:
See i think i am with you there my wave harriers are my felly ones now as i can't wear innov8s anymore - since running ultras my feet don't fit my innov8s! So yes think i'll join you in that selection!
well, it's warm this afternoon and it's gonna be warm tomorrow .......... the old Brooks Cascadia 4 will have possibly their final outing ... Good luck!
Good luck to all tomorrow.
Yes, good luck to all of you - it's a good event & a major challenge. I'm glad I pulled out though: my chest's still not right & I still hate industrial dereliction & flat bits. Going recceing in the Lakes instead.
See you all there, i'll be in a blue and yellow sheffield children's hospital vest.
Well that wasn't nearly as bad as i thuoght it may be! The wonderful weather helped. Fab day out - lots of lovely people to chat to - only went a few steps wrong now and then. The checkpoints were fantastic - great food and helpful jolly people. I have decided I don't like 50 miles - i get bored of running:rolleyes: But had a cracking day out. Managed to bash my head up in the first few miles by headbutting a stile - ooops! many thanks to the people who were asking if i was ok - I must have looked a bit worse for wear by the Column section with blood dripping down my head. I am an idiot!
Thanks to the organisers and to anyone on here i may have met and had a good chat with - Vicci
I too enjoyed the whole shooting match and was pleased with my 10.29
I can't fit in training for these sort of distances hence I crash and burn by the end so .... I got what I trained for and had a grand day out to boot.
Many thanks to all at RHAC and their supporters for excellent help and encouragement.
I may stick to the 23 / 36 bracket in future :closed: but ... i've done it and no-one can take it from me.
I`ll blog my experience in a day or so.
Congrats to Nick on his Vasque Grand slam
Hi dawn!
catch you all soon M
A great event and great weather as well, happy days:thumbup:
I had a tough time at about 24 miles. Fed up with following the strip maps adnd making little errors, I ran too fast to catch a runner that clearly knew the route. He was running too fast as well and we both had a bad spell and by the time I caught him at about 29 miles we had to run most of the way to the finish together in survival mode. I think I did 3.30 for the first half and 4.05 the second. That says it all. Still I am fairly pleased with 10th place. Room for improvement, so may have to have a rematch next year.
Well done to all who finished.:)
Thanks to the organisers and CP staff, Cliff bars at some CPs as well, luxury stuff.
I got talking to one of our Senior Pharmacists on Thursday, & I'm sure she told me that she got roped into this (she's a 'Denby Dale Traveller')
I think she'll have run as Anne Middleton
Well done to all, participants and organisers/helpers, and to the other Grand Slammer Greg Crowley, who's much much faster than I am. Nevertheless I was pretty delighted with my 9:14, which was just 1 minute outside my PB of two years ago.
This event never fails to delight, and the trails and scenery are improving year by year. Mid-October sun tan conditions certainly helped with the enjoyment too.
Well done Mike. That was a good time. Don't worry about slowing or suffering in the latter stages. It always happens. It's the nature of the beast. I blame the runnability of the course.
I've posted my pictures. They tailed off towards the end because I was getting competitive with myself.
Well done Nick- glad you made your grand slam and a decent time too.
Thanks for the sympathy and encouragement when you plodded with me in Rother Valley Park.
I will be very interested to see my splits- suspect they will confirm what I know- set off too fast so fast first 10, awful next 10 and then good again towards end. It did not feel good for lots of the way although the weather and company were superb and I did shave 20 mins off last years time. The area did not seem anything as grim as I recalled and not having the police helicopter buzzing for hours in the night helped me get a better sleep.
Excellent event with superb marshals.
I don't call myself ultraploddernick for nothing, Karen. Your depleted plod equals the best I can muster when on PB form. :w00t: I knew things must have gone bad for you when I caught up with you and you were struggling to run. (I've had many a low point by the time I reach that stage but this year I seemed to keep on a pretty even keel throughout.) Although it was a rare treat to chat with you for a few miles during a race, the circumstances were less than ideal. I was amazed at your comeback when I spoke to you after I'd finished. Well done with that impressive result. I hope your hip is not telling you off too much now.
Well done Nick for your slam, and to Karen for Series 2nd Lady. And everyone else who got round the 50 miles. Also, though he didn't run at Rotherham, to MountainMan for winning the M60 by a country mile or so. Next year, I won't be coughing all autumn, or that's the plan anyway. So maybe I'll manage to finish 4 events...not necessarily including Rotherham.
Had a trot yesterday morning over micklebring to hooton roberts section couldnt see any footprints whatsoever considering amount of people that passed that way satdy really suprising , it's either testimony to fleet footed runners or really firm ground cos usually those fields can be really heavy going.
Well done on the Grand Slam Nick, hat's off to you sir, an Ultraplodding machine:thumbup:
Thanks Nick,
Congrats on a cracking time and another grand slam.
I've done the blog with a few images .......... see ya soon
Big thanks to all at RHAC and supporters and for the kind words on my effort!!!
Karen
Did you go wrong? You started in front of me, but finished after me. I don't remember seeing you anywhere on the course.
I was quite pleased to knock 40 mins off last year's time, but the 8 hour mark still remains tantalisingly just out of reach after 7 attempts.
Colm
Congrats nick. Superb effort, especially when you add in the UTMB! Great time at RR too :D.
