Was anybody of here recceing leg 5 this morning about 10.20am i saw 3 pairs in Cowpe? also what legs is everybody doing?
Going out 1st thing tomorrow recceing leg 5 (though I know it already, as I used to mtb alot!) Being dragged out at 8am on a Sunday!
I was out with a mate recceing leg 5 on MTBs on Sat morning, very wet, very misty and very muddy. Depressing thing is that we took almost 3 hrs to MTB leg 5 out and back from Waterfoot!
This from Lefty, the relay organiser:
"Dear........hopefully this will be my last email before the event tomorrow. I have had a few people understandably worried about the weather for tomorrow. We have had a fair amount of snow dumped overnight and this morning. I have had a drive around to all of the changeover points this morning and there is no problem getting around on the roads and to the changeovers although the side roads and the actual running sections might be "interesting".
The only changeover which might prove "challenging" if the snow doesn't shift so quickly is the final c/o at Whitworth and cars may need to be parked at the bottom near the main road.
The local forecast for later today is for rain and then dry tomorrow till around 12.00 then some rain and possibly strong winds although mild. Please remind your team members to bring along the apprpropriate gear for the expected weather..........good luck to everyone.......hope you all enjoy our event.....cheers
Graham Wright ......Rossendale Harriers"
Hope you all enjoy it tomorrow. I'll see at least a fifth of you, as I'll be doing the finish.
Cheers Pudgy.
Should be good tomorrow, the snow will just make me quicker. I'm running leg 2 but hopefully I'll be able to cadge a lift to the end.
Looking forward to it - my 1st tilt - and I think the first time for Blackburn Harriers - at an event like this.
Team is a little front loaded. We should be looking quite good after leg 2 and maybe also leg 3 - then we'll see - 4 and 5 are not quite so strong, although respect to my partner on 5, I will probably hold him up a few minutes!
I grew up in Stacksteads and know Rooley Road and Cowpe quite well so just fancied it.
Have a good day everyone.
Yes, will be interesting to compare that leg split.
Chris is doing leg 2. We'll be there at the finish. Hopefully see some of you.
Not at the finish of leg 2. The finish of the race.
Good race today- really enjoyed it. Glad to see sparth doing it too
Thoroughly enjoyed it as well.
Managed to thank the marshalls at end of Leg 4 when I went back for my partners car - but for the rest can I also add thanks you all for your efforts.
Hope the 1 pair of stragglers made it in at the end of 4 - must have been 3.00pm and they were still up there waiting for them.
We will be back again next year.
Look forward to seeing the online results.

Results are up.
Did leg 4 and it was HARD! However we did ok, 15th overall and 3rd Vets so not a bad day out, really. Had a bit of a ding dong with Manchester Tri for about 2/3 of it and then held off Clayton B at the finish. Well done to Rossendale, yet again, for hosting such a great event.
Leg 5 was tough, but enjoyable apart from suffering up Rooley Moor Road. Was suprised by the end to see we had pulled one place back as loads overtook us.
Hope Pudgy enjoyed running with my weekend running partner on leg 2, he said it was tough for him.
True Gaz. After our painful spikey rain experience up there I took a balaclava this time. Widdy mentioned you were drafted in and Calder Valley did really well.
I think after the slog up the cobbles and then the flat, it was quite nice to have the sheltered bit, but by heck you felt the fury of nature on that turn. But funnily enough, that was the only bit really. Apart from the start, but you had adrenaline to counter that!
It was ridiculous - I thought I was going to end up in Cowpe Reservoir:D It only lasted for about 10 metres, but that had to be my slowest 10 metres ever in a race!
What was great up there was just as you came over the top, you could see practically the whole route laid out around you.
Throughly enjoyed running with Lee. He certainly gave it his all, thought we were going to see his intestines at the top of the last climb:eek:
Don't know what the two Rochdale lads thought of Lee running past them asking "so do you know Notlob then?"
Seemed a good spirit and lots of happy people at the finish. Even more in the Jolly Sailor. Well done to Borrowdale by the way.
Enjoyed it, apart from the 5 minute+ detour we made on leg 3! Good weather for it though.
Remind me where you live AG. Oh yeah, right next to your "detour". Could there be a connection?
