Nice to meet you all today...
Managed to eat my dinner despite going through full bag of jelly babies....even put the curtain track up...
See you all on race day!
Yeah, had a great trot out and was lovely to meet (and re-meet in the case of Swoop) some of men behind the avatars! Great route. Just a pity i didnt get entered!
Glad the forumite group enjoyed their run round the skyline.
Saw you out near Noe Stool- should have said hello but was a bit out of puff trying to keep up with others I was with. Very rude of me.
Seemed to be at least 4 groups recceing the course from Mam Nick starting around 9am yesterday. Wonder how many others were out at different times/from different start points?
A group of 5 of us set out from Mam Nick just as the forum group was about to set off. We tried out a few new shortcuts - some more successful that others!
mam tor was like tescos car park
at least 30 handgliders, dog walkers, mountain bikers, walkers
oh and the odd fellrunner:rolleyes:
very very busy
I was down in Edale walking with a group including ex/part-time/one-off/never- quite-made-it/hopefully-one-day-again fellrunners.
Although we didnt set off til 10.45 we saw 4 or 5 groups/pairings along the skyline as we walked up Grindsbrook Clough, plus a further 3 or 4 individuals as we walked towards and down Jacobs Ladder - including one poor lad who must've gone over on his ankle given the way he was struggling back down from the edge - hope he's ok for the race itself.
It was certainly a cracking day to be out and I bet you are all hoping for similar conditions on race day now!!
Anybody fancy a run along the route this weekend ? Maybe not the full distance but perhaps 3/4 qtrs or until we get jiggered.
A few of us are doing the first half on Saturday,Edale to Mam Nick checkpoint, we did the second half a couple of week ago.
Edale main carpark at 10.00 if any one wishes to join us.
Won't be going too fast ! some of us are doing Ilkley race Sun. morning:D
Did second part yesterday from Mam Tor . Very misty and claggy underfoot for a lot of it. But ran with very experienced runners who imparted lots of tips!!! Father and son had even done Bob Graham. Oh! Bow down!!
Can't believe the cut off is 2 and a half for the first part!! I hope I make it!!
Get one of those race maps, Manhar.
Seriously, hope you're OK - it was good to see you last week. I would have liked to have looked at Edale skyline today but I'm up to my eyes in it with work and juggling it with Watershed training. Hope to have a recce of skyline some time after next week if I can fit it in.

Cheers JD -or should that be Grouse - I'll be fine - it's just that (and I was going to mention this last week) I seem to have to work at my long runs and really envy everyone planning / carrying out the longer races/training runs.
2 years ago I was running well, almost effortlessly. I remember 1 glorious 4 hr run where I had the great feeling of thinking I could run all day. I only curtailed the run because I had to be home to do other things.
Now after 2:45 hrs it tends to become a real slog.
All I want to do is recapture that form.
Sounds as though the weather might be ok tomorrow morning.
If so I am going to have a go at running the first half to Mam Nick in 2.30 or thereabouts.
Just to convince myself I can do it on the day.
All the best Swoop, let us know the outcome.
I wish I was coming with you!
I might manage to get to Edale the week before the race, so I decided to look for some tips/advice/route choices etc on the forum....
This 'Edale Skyline' thread has over 100 postings!
Has anyone got a concise list or summary of their route choices, tips etc that they would care to share. I just can't face reading through 100 posts - most of them about meeting up for reccies!
Many thanks.
Well I've decided not to recce - will just follow the crowd! Not exactly in mega competitive mode though.
It's just seems a long way to go and an important race to get lost in mist on. perhaps it's not about the short-cuts, but more the knowing where to go in mist. Hopefully I can walk it in two days and just get a feel for the route. I dont run outside the lakes much you see.
The general route isn't being discussed because there's a race map available which shows all the big route decisions. The only way to race it in mist without getting lost is to have recce'd it beforehand, hence the endless numbers of recces being discussed. If not, the two important things to remember are:
1) you might need a compass bearing to Brown Knoll
2) turn right at the pointy rocks to Grindslow Knoll.
Posts 54-75 give the full details.
All irrelevant now - realised it's Mother's Day. I need to stay at home - can't possibly miss out on all that pampering!
Thanks Stagger. I got to Mam Tor in 2.26 and Mam Nick in 2.29 so should do it easily on the day. Don't know how I'll manage the last 10 miles though! Didn't push it and walked a lot up Ringing Roger (at the start:o ) and Lose Hill. Even going slow up to Ringing Roger it took the same time as it did coming down last Sunday! When I got back to Edale I bumped into Fat Boy Dave who was just setting off to do the second half. I resisted the temptation to join him!:)
