Andy, the Fiendsdale organiser, has just received written permission for this year's race; after much negotiations regarding the route. SO IT IS DEFINITELY ON and the 50 entries received so far will now have their cheques cashed. We are limited to 120 entries, so please be quick if you have intentions.
We will not be using Wolf & Saddle Fells this year, due to actions placed on the land owner by Natural England, so PLEASE, NO training or recce-ing on that side of the Parlick / Paddy's Pole ridge, if we are to maintain a good working relationship.
The race will be 1 mile & 300 feet less than last year, but still qualifies as an AM. The route will be divulged on the morning of the race.
Ian Roberts.
Will there be entries on the day if the quota is not filled by pre entry?
Yes Martin; but you will be taking a chance and risking a wasted journey. The 120 limit will be strictly adhered to. First come, first served, etc. Mind, as a Bowland member, we could always find you a marshalling job, so bring plenty of warm gear.:D
Glad t'race is on. Can we 'av some checkpoints so I can luk at mi map in advance? I promise I won't recce it :)
Just bumping this up, to highlight for information purposes
Mapper et al,
The race is as it has been for the last 4 years ( 2006 to 2009 ), minus CP2 & CP3. Thus for this year:-
CP1 - as ever - NGR 597456 - gate at wall junction on Blindhurst Saddle.
CP2 - NGR 597472 - stile/fence junction adjacent to "1707" ( 520m spot height )
CP3 - NGR 588485 - stile at Fiendsdale Head
CP4 - NGR 586477 - sheepfolds at stream/wall junction
CP5 - NGR 591468 - Fairsnape Fell trig point, then follow the obvious track SE to the gate at NGR 595466 - (must at all times keep above the fell / intake wall)
CP6 - NGR 594457 - gate at bottom of fence, adjacent to fell/intake wall junction
CP7 - NGR 596450 - Parlick Pike summit; descend SE down E side of the obvious gully.
Finish - NGR 599446 - bottom of fell, behind Fell Foot Cottage.
Please vacate finish area ASAP and quietly - we have a good working relationship with the residents of the cottage and we want to maintain it.;)
I should be on my regular duties, car parking, followed by CP1 then CP6.
Hope this is helpful, Ian.
Just 'bumping' this for a mid-week heads-up.
It's def. there

This and Edale Skyline would make a reasonable training weekend emmilou ;)
Sorry that we won't be seeing you Emma; your services would have been very much appreciated, but family is family, take good care of the little people.
I'm going to pop along to help out, see ya there :)
Hi there - could you tell me - what's your entry list up to at the moment?-
if it was 50 on 12 march and the limit is 120 ?
what is it today on 17 March?
ta very much.
entries are now on the day to a max of 120.... currently being at 75.... please contact Andy Farmer on 01995 678111 to confirm/reserve a place..
there are some places left, if you want to enter on the day give Andy Farmer a ring on 01995 678111,
75 entered at last count
Emmi,
9 will be fine, that's what I'm aiming for! Back at the car for 12 should give you time for a spot of marshalling at CP1.
Ian.
Thanks for the CP's WD. Looks like another good route.
See you tomorrow.
Nice wet day up there today.
Congrats to all finishers :)
Yeah all 70. Results are up. I really enjoyed the soggy, heavy shorter course. Thanks to all the volunteers / marshals, on a none too pleasant day.
Marrow, the results went to Brett yesterday evening. They were definitely up last night. The R.O. told me that he had seen them, but beggar me if I can find them now!
Regards, Ian.
I've just found it, under the "results" button, then "march"
What happened to Emma Clayton - did she get lost?
Emma C came through CP6 complaining that "It should all be flagged". Her dad was with her and reckoned that it was a good lesson for her on the learning curve!;) There again, Lauren Jeska is no slouch, she had a bit of a lead by CP1, obviously climbing well!!
I was surprised to pass someone of her class on the way down to Feinsdale head. I don’t think she was enjoying the leg swallowing bogs and peat hags. They were tough to keep a momentum going on. The only parts where you could waste time is on the decent off Feinsdale head and descending too early down Blindhurst Fell to cp 6. It may just not be a course suited to her style of running, at the moment.
Bowland deffo taking the team win as well by the looks of it!
4 out of the top 5 places, very well done :)
Definitely a race which requires more than just running speed/stamina, especially with the weather conditions on saturday....a proper fell race.
A quick heads up for this fixture - see the FRA calendar/fixtures list for details. We are limited to 100 and it is pre-entry, so shape up to avoid disappointment!
Ian.
Is there an entry list online Wheezing?
NOUH, Not that I'm aware. Contact the R.O. - Andy Farmer - as per details in the FRA Fixtures Calendar.
Any forumites going along to this one?
This was my first real tough climb (Fairsnape) in a fell race about 8 years ago, knocked my socks of it did.
