Will be down to watch and take some pics, and for the piss-up post race :)
I see todays Leyland 10K has been cancelled due to ice although it does seem to have thawed quite a bit here. Any latest news on the RV10K...........
THE RACE IS ON - the race route is clear and fine and based on the weather report for the next 24 hours we do not anticipate any problems.
As previously mentioned Car Parking is the issue. Our 3 key parking areas at the Leisure Centre, School and Caravan Park are all snow bound.
We are allowed some limited road side parking on Edisford Road and marshalls will be directing this
The Borough H&S Officer and Police are directing us to use parking in the Town Centre once Edisford Road has been utilised - and we will have marshalls on hand to direct you.
This will mean that you could be up to a mile away from the registration, so please bear this in mind :-
Get there early.
Take a backpack with what you need and perhaps leave it in the main hall of the Leisure Centre.
CAR SHARE WHERE POSSIBLE.
PLEASE BE TOLERANT OF THE MARSHALLS and take their direction and please also choose your parking slot sensibly and with regard for residents etc.
The Road closure takes effect from 10:30
PHOTOGRAPHERS
I know one or two of you are coming to take pics - just bear in mind that the road closures will mean that you are on foot.

Results are up - cracking race - the quality in the Mens field was unbelievable with Tom Lancashire setting a new race record of 29:21 - he was due to race the Sale 5, but as it was cancelled came and entered on the day at ours.
40 guys sub 32 and Helen Clitheroe winning again in 32:53. A good 2nd for Katie Ingram and Victoria Wilkinson in 3rd.
Very quick at the sharp end, my predicted winner finished 10th!!
I have uploaded nearly 300 pics to Flickr below, quite a few forumites there - Richard, you are number 99. Lighting was not the best for piccy taking but at least the rain held off until my mem card was more or less full.

Another set below where I have edited & adjusted a few images as opposed to direct upload in the other set. I may add to these in the next few days. All shot in RAW so if you require full size hi-res as opposed to med res JPG from Flickr give me a shout.

A very enjoyable race today although my time was not as good as I had hoped for. Some great photos Ady I thought it was you snapping away as we went off down the lanes. A well organised race with a top class field of runners and a new course record. 7-8 runners all clocking under 30 mins. Well done everyone.
I was reading somewhere on the BBC website a blog from Ingram, she has just been in Spain triathlon training, alright for these pro's isnt it! Travel to where the weather is suitable for training :)
Didn't manage to make it down to watch, ended up working.

but where is she on the results?
Higham - 40:35 with hubbie.
Is there a date for 2010, albeit provisional for this race?
Cheers.
I thought it was always the first Sunday after Christmas day, so Boxing Day this year.
Thanks for that.
Only a month to go now to the RV10K Road Race inc NA Champs.

Hi Everyone,
5 athletes ran around the course today and it is in great nick to race, the roads are clear. At this moment in time the race goes ahead.
The weather is more of the same for Friday through to Sunday and although the course will be checked every day, the situation is unlikely to change during the weekend.
On the BBC and Met Office websites there is a band of rain moving in from the West on Sunday night with South Westerly winds. Temperatures look set to rise with Monday forecast 3 - 6C.
There is a concern here though - there is a likelyhood of some snow initially on Sunday night as the rain band arrives, but it seems it will turn to rain.
Our instinct is that the conditions will be fine to race, but we also realise that we have substantial runners travelling a long way to the race. So we feel that it is prudent to advise that at the moment we are full steam ahead for Monday, with a hint of caution on what Sunday night may bring.
We will monitor the course daily in the meantime as well as the weather forecasts and endeavour to keep you all fully informed.
thanks for the update. got my number so hopefully see you Monday. chance to test my new garmin 310xt
Route checked again this morning - still fine and the race is on.

Fingers crossed for tonight now.
Race is cancelled, snow and ice on the course. It is hoped to be run in March
I've just had word from the Race Organiser - unfortunately they have had to cancel.
Around 6 this morning some sleet / snow came down and the course has a thin layer of slushy ice.
A milk wagon is stuck on the bridge and blocking the road.
Gutted - sorry for all those that have set off or travelled up - half an hour of the wrong weather at the wrong time.
Glad I checked on here first as I was about to set off. It is snowning quite hard in bentham at the moment. Thnks for letting us know and it is a shame for the organisers as a lot of hard work goes into these events
just got an email offering me a refund for this race [a bit surprised as I thought it was being rescheduled] but the refund says I have to open a paypal account to get the refund i do not really want a financial account festering out there that i may never use again i paid direct from my bank so why cant i just have it credited back to my bank without having to open a useless account. or is it a ploy by paypal to get loads of accounts opened?
