My friendly neighbourhood fox has just nonchalently strolled past my front room!!!
Badger on last night's club run descending from Thieveley Pike to Cliviger. I don't know who was more surprised - him or us!
a load of vultures in vision express
managed to worm £250 out of me :(
where's all t'wildlife gone? nobody sin owt lately?
I can 'ear a male 'ouse sparra singin 'is lile 'ead off...
th'experts reckon that 'ouse sparras, promiscuous scruffy-but-likeable little beggas, once classed as a pest in urban areas, are in a big decline throughout Little Britain...why can't somet similar 'appen to the latest urban pest (which tends to infiltrate rural areas more 'n more)...the stripey shellsuits, white trainers, latest mobile stuck on their spotty 'eads, big fat exhaust on their souped-up "boom-boom!" corsas...brigade?
I wonder if this country will ever become Great agen?
Are the Yahoo! Slurp Spiders that infest this forum considered to be wildlife?

a baby Great Spotted woodpecker bein attacked by a magpie:eek:...poor little Woody...b'stard Maggy:mad:
Hares, Ringed Plover and Little Ringed Plover, plus a LBJ (Little Brown Job) of a bird that I still can't recognise despite buying a book.
Wasn't a siskin, was it? :p Only saying that 'cos I heard a prog on R4 about birds and (apparently) it's got one of the ugliest bird songs around. They tend to live in the tops of trees, especially evergreens.
Come to think of it, there's quite a bit of yellow in their plumage so maybe it wasn't then.... :(
Watch the skies! :D
Radio 4? You must be older than you look Jan:p
Just come in from walking dogs,a little owl perched in a tree 10ft away, brill !!
Now, where did I put my pipe & slippers.....?
Actually, I dip in occasionally. Sometimes you can find some real nuggets of documentaries or comedies or whatever. Difficult in the car - aside from my own music I struggle with the other stations; too much pandering to the sms-sending club-going fraternity with roots as deep as the last issue of "hello".....
Tirade over! How's the leg Matt?
haha is it safe to come out yet? The leg is much better thanks mate, gave the Trunce a miss last night cos was unure but now i wish i'd done it:( Anyway, its gonna be tested this weekend cos im doing the national 3 peaks in aid of the BHF!!!
Saw 3 hares the other day on mtb ride behind house. Tadpoles in the garden pond are growing well, feeding them on dogfood, they love it. Sloworms taken up their summer residence in the garden underneath the corrugated and slates we put down for them (to warm up under). Think the first Swift (baby) left the nestbox under the house eaves this morning. Greenfinches & bullfinches are starting on the geranium (wild) seed heads that Missus plants for them. Can do a lot in a very small garden.
Completely forgotten to look for the glow-worms this year, damn I love seeing them on them when out and about at night:(.
Spotted a Tawny owl this evening up the Dale.
Nice one. I think you might be right...

Another to add to the list of birds seen at work.
Found a dead Long-Eared Owl on th'A65 near Skipton this mornin.
Cryin shame:(...I've sin only one int'Craven District 'bout 10 years ago.
It was still warm when I picked it up at 8.30am...strange really as they roost by day, tight up against a tree trunk, avoidin t'mobbin of small birds...which form a large part of a Long-Eared's diet. P'raps it was disturbed 'n flew into the path of an unforgivin windsreen.
Can't see that it's a young 'un...looks too well developed to be one o' this springs fledglings?...I'll 'ave to check mi facts on that point.
Tekkin it to local museum where it can be added to their stuffed birds collection.
last one I saw was near 'ellifield 'bout 3 years ago..I was out lampin for reynards 'n I "squeaked it up"...it 'ovvered 10' above me for a few secs...gave me a brilliant view in the light beam...wish I'd 'ad mi camera.
Folk'll tell you there's plenty o' Barn Owls int'area but I think most of the Barn Owl sightings are Short-Eared Owls which look very pale in some light conditions.
was surprised to find purple 'n bee orchids ont' by-pass bankin this lunchtime...although roadside verges can be great fo' nature. Some nice snails 'n all. Set mi camera on "macro".
KINGFISHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bank of the tees and trout jumping!!!! idyllic
I saw a kingfisher at Newby Hall near Ripon last week; it was a real chubster too. Other recent spottings are a little owl (no idea which kind) perched on a fence post driving along the Hetton to Airton lane and a couple of pretty large deer near to Blacko.
Think I saw a male hen harrier today at distance flying below Barrow Stones/Clough in the Peak District. Has anyone else seen hen harriers in this area?
A male hen harrier at a distance? You have got good eyes Marko.
a male Redstart...female's a bit duller (usually the case)...'eard 'em singin since May but first one I've sin this year.
gleaned t'photo off t'internet as I've ne'er getten close enuff to shoot yan yet.
The Forest of Bowland website shows the distinctive differences between the male and the female of the species.
http://www.forestofbowlandimages.com...rier_black.jpg
I think it was a male hen harrier because it was a large greyish coloured bird (soaring/flapping slowly like a bird of prey) - don't know what else it could have been. Saw the same type of bird about two years ago in the same area - between Grinnah Stones and Bleaklow Stones. I have read that there are a couple of hen harriers in the Upper Derwent Valley.
Anyway, sighting it perked me up a bit after a couple of hours of bogtrotting along the Derwent Watershed on a wet and windy Sunday afternoon. My other wildlife encounter of the day was with a bog monster between Outer Edge and Margery Hill, into which I fell waistdeep! It took me a few minutes to extricate myself. :p
The Bogmonster and you go back a long way Marko ;).
Not sure if it was the same bog actally. The one I fell into last time was I think after the Outer Edge trig whereas yesterdays close encounter was with a bog between Outer Edge and Margery Hill. Either way, I think someone should go up there with a few planks of wood and create a couple of bridges over the worst ones.
Naaaahhhh.....
:D
Three stoats ran across the lane 100 yards in front of me this morning and then stopped to have a rough and tumble amongst themselves as I drove up. Absolutely brilliant and they only ran into the undergrowth when I was about 10 feet away!
yesterdays encounter actually - Water Buffalo in the Upper Calder Valley
