Found a dead Long-Eared Owl on th'A65 near Skipton this mornin.
Cryin shame...I've sin only one int'Craven District 'bout 10 years ago.
It was still warm when I picked it up at 8.30am...strange really as they roost by day, tight up against a tree trunk, avoidin t'mobbin of small birds...which form a large part of a Long-Eared's diet. P'raps it was disturbed 'n flew into the path of an unforgivin windsreen.
Can't see that it's a young 'un...looks too well developed to be one o' this springs fledglings?...I'll 'ave to check mi facts on that point.
Tekkin it to local museum where it can be added to their stuffed birds collection.
