Are you an Aquarian then?

Yes i am 23rd January. Il try to carry a bit of water. 5l or so. Do you pass Black Hill twice
Jodg - Depends on the state of the feet after Snowdon. Last year I left my left heel somewhere just below the half way house
But if ok I would be surely tempted, I really enjoyed the race last year :)
TT naye probs re a lift....
So Black Hill it is. Do you pass it on the way out or back
HHAC usually have water tables at the top of the moss (you pass them twice), plus there is plenty of parking at the top of Holme Moss for friends/family to help out too.
ETA of runners at Laddow rocks? If you're there for noon you should have time to spare (more likely to be nearer 12.30 before you see anyone) - depends on the weather. best bet is to catch them as they cross the Moss and then run the other way to catch them again
May well be beyond my reach! This wet weather is going to make the going "soft" to downright boggy! May not see my feet for several hours!
The Laddlow bit is sounding a bit on the "interesting" side - rather a change from the 1 mile time trial I did on a track yesterday! Variety is the spice of life and all that.
One question, if RichK is running, who will take photos/videos?
Got me nicely on Crowden, thanks for that!
Its always boggy anyway but just make sure you dont end up waist deep in peat :p. BTW what time did you do your mile in?
5:41, but I'd done a 7 mile race the night before. Quite daunting, standing on the start line with 10-12 year olds as well as us "older folk"!!
Have managed to trace most of the route with Google Maps - is this cheating?
This race will be one hell of a mud bath. Rained all day here.
Same day as Gravy 6 or else I would have been tempted dong it for a long run.
Ah! A case of mistaken identity? Anyway, I'll try and smile through the mud!
This was not straight either, it went around a track ;->
Sun is out! I can feel the ground drying out as we speak!:)
Talked to my father on the phine lasy night who advised taking a pair of tennis rackets to walk across the bogs!
I'm just about the worst photographer in the world.
I think the confusion comes from the Tanky's Trog race. I had a camera with me on Black Hill, but just for fun, and a few runners shouted "are you Richard?".
Surprised at my fame I answered yes, not realising that everyone thought I was Richard Asquith, who was a few hundred feet away taking some brilliant pictures.
wish i was doing this on sunday but stuck in hornsea
Just back from cheering them on at the top of Holme Moss. 85 runners starters today apparently, doesn't seem like many this year. Poor nutters - it was cold, blowy & wet out. :p
who won? And any Saddleworth lads out
Somebody say wet (you want to see the video!!!)

did anyone from Saddleworth even run? Think there must be a food shortage over Dark Peak way, loads of them turned out

Jon Morgan won in 2:49:55 I think, from Chris Birchall. I gather the new climb out of Ramsden Clough on the way back was the decider. Janet McIver was about 3:02, and I think 5th overall.
It was a tad soggy out there  Wet underfoot just about all the way, apart from the road at the start/finish and the Holme Moss road crossing. Pennine Way from Laddow was more like a river. I was getting flashbacks to Rotherham Round 2008 :D
I was going okay to Bareholme Moss, legs just started to say no on the climb to Laddow Rocks, was okayish to Black Hill but went again over the bog back to the transmitter.
Somehow, whilst I was thinking trench foot might be a problem ;), I seem to have a sunburnt neck and shoulders. The sun tried breaking through for what, 5 minutes? I know I was out there a while but that's ridiculous.
Where were you Rich? I didn't see you at the start, nor the finish for that matter, did you just change your mind?
Thanks to all the Marshals for sitting out in the horrendous conditions today especially at Laddow Rocks and for the lovely sandwiches and cakes at the end. See Rich, you missed a treat!
It was so wet underfoot, a lot of the paths were running rivers but managed not to fall in any deep bogs which was a great relief. I managed to knock 15 minutes off my time from 2 years ago and it was 1.5 miles further so I'm well chuffed!
Tom, where were you too? I was gasping for a drink at Black Hill!
Linda
Thanks for the photos Richard.
To echo Mrs Stagger, thanks to all those marshalling today, and the drink at Laddow was great. Cheers to the people who had been out flagging parts of the route too. Buttie and cake at the finish was top notch as ever.
Again, thanks to the marshals and the organiser for a fantastic job well done, great venue, huge prize list, superb food aplenty and unlimited tea and coffee. Can't fault it.
A better route than last year even with the to and from the mast. It just keeps on coming and doesn't let up.
Well done to all involved. My second go at this and won't be my last...
English Championship race next year? You bet! Check with the Holmfirth website for any restrictions on recce - there is quite a delicate access arrangement on Black Hill.
video - only took 5 hrs to upload...
Well this was the first time I have done tis race, and what an epic! My knees are a little sore, and there is moss growing in odd places on my body!
Absolutely amzing course: as someone just said, it just never let's up. How I got up that last climb, I'll never know! Got a minor case of cramp for a few minutes near the top, but managed to keep running after a couple of minutes walk.
Had a few spectacular falls, the odd encounter with the bogmonster, but nothing serious.
Wet, wet wet!
Thanks to the organizational team for an absolutely superbly run event!
Race report. Matty and Phil are in my club.
Day started "early" with Steve W. picking me up from home, despite his having decided not to run the race, which was incredibly kind of him. Got to Matty's, with Phil arriving almost straight away, then a fairly uneventful trip to Holmfirth, with a coffee and several piddle stops on the way. Got lost in Holmforth, till Matty got out his GPS and directed us up some ridiculously narrow streets and sharp turns to get to the start. Registered and went to the loo several times, all the time looking at the ominous clouds overhead. Not long before the start, the rain set in and we stood around getting wet while the late arrivals arrived, late.
Eventually, the usual low key start occurred, and we trundled off along a track for a while, then a short section of road, before heading off on another track before a very, very steep descent down to the woods just by Ramsden Clough. A muddy path took us to a bridge, then a good long climb out before a muddy contour around Twizle Head Moss, complete with many peaty bits, wet bits, clumpy bits etc. etc. Got to the car park on the A602, then crossed the road to the first water stop. Since I was carrying a litre of Lucozade Sport, I missed that and drank on foot. There then followed a steep climb up onto Tooleyshaw Moor, followed by a long descent (with a few "ripples") down to Crowden Almost had an encounter with the bogmonster when I optimistically tried to cross a very wide area of peat, but saw the error of my ways in time to retreat and take a different route. Managed to slip on some rocks here, and perform the rarely-seen reverse double windmill manoeuvre, only just regaining my balance. Steeply down to Crowden, then a flagged run up the valley, before an astonishing climb up to Westend Moss. New technique discovered here of left hand on left knee, with right hand pulling on fence, all the way up to the next checkpoint. The rain then came on in stairrods here and as a result of this, plus a bit of ineptitude, plus following the wrong people, overdid the contouring a little and had to descend a hairy section to get down to Crowden Little Brook. Waded across here, and then a rocky jaunt up through the bracken to Laddow Rocks. An interesting scramble up here to gain the top, and a water stop, before heading off along the Pennine way all the way to Black Hill. This path was a stream all of the way (I'm sure some of the streams were flowing uphill....) with very boggy bits, before turning into a stone path for the last 3/4 mile ascent. Bit drained when I got to Black Hill, and managed a spectacular fall headlong into a large boggy puddle (one of about four in total, I think). On the flagged route off the top I got out an SiS GO bar - these are monsters, and it took me quite a while to eat that, and my jaw was aching by the end. Perked me up a bit though for the continued run along the Holme Moss gully back to the A602 and the car parks. Back to Twizel Head Moss for an interminable run around the contour path, until the steep descent to Ramsden Clough again. A muddy run up along the woods, then a precipitous climb back up to the track - at the end of such a long run, this was really terribly unfair and a real challenge. Got a bit of cramp in the last 10 metres or so, so had to walk/stagger for a couple of mins before I could run again, then just a run back to the Finish, but it seemed a very long way!
A hose down followed (note, not a hoe-down) - I was waiting for a woman to finish and she gave me an odd look, and as I peered down to my shorts I saw that they were all covered with froth, which was running down my legs - I think it was just poorly rinsed washing liquiid, but it certainly looked strange. Then saw Matty, and sat down to eat the FREE food of a large cob with a slice of cake and endless tea and coffee. Vaguely human again, so got changed and saw Phil coming in at that point. Had severe trouble putting my right trouser leg on, owing to cramp, but eventually did it, then back for more tea.
Old bloke had staggered in, who was drenched, covered with mud from head to toe, with a cut knee and a cut elbow. As he was limping past a group someone pipes up, deadpan, "did you run the race then?". Still tickles me.
A -ha so that's you! I was wondering about the froth but did n't like to ask.
Oh my word - infamous among the fell running fraternity/sorority for having frothy shorts!
You're not the lady I chased all the way around (apart from the very few occasions when you were chasing me?).
If so, I almost considered risking severe cramping for a sprint to the line, then the guy in front of me caught up with you and then just ran along side chatting. That seemed so nice, and coupled with my pathetic state, I just ambled in behind.
I ain't no lady!
This is the third year I've posted enthusiastically on this thread and then failed to make the start - Kate was ill, thought it might have been flu, so we decided to take an easier option today instead.
I'll make it next year though. (hmmm)
See you next time MrsS!
