Does this race suit faster runners ?
Id imagine so yes...62 minute record over 9 miles 2700ft. A lot of leg speed will be needed.
Have you not done BG leg 1???
Well I'd say it'd suit everyone really.
Theres the long run out and run back in which would suit the faster runner. But DONT BOMB IT early on as im sure Daz H will back me up after last year.
Then the climb up suits a strong climber...I still have nightmares of the screaming my calfs gave me.
Theres a few stretches of long runable bits nearer the top both going up and coming down which will again suit the faster runner.
Then its down to good out who's the most mental descender
And then...ho's got the most left in the tank to get to the finish.
On smooth-ish grass....X Country runner then :P
Hopefully do this race. Do you reckon I'll be OK in roclite 295s? I have been up and down before, but stuck to the path all the way (and the top half was under snow so I don't know what the ground's like higher up). Or I could wear my new x-talons but I've come to the conclusion that they're half a size too big for me so maybe not such good idea for the descent?
well they're not brand spanking new, but good point about the tread
thanks - looks like roclites it is then.
They fit my feet better (more snuggly) than any other shoe I have, so they're pretty stable, but I wish they were lower profile...
Think I'll add this to my list aswell :-)
although Ive heard people suffer for days afterwards...dont fancy that with Snowdon coming up!
Glad it's going to be cooler. Sweated buckets the last two years.
It's going to be like a local race with all the familliar faces making the trip up ;)
Yeah, looking forward to it despite the forecast. Shropshire on tour! My first race with a single big ascent and descent. got to try to deal with the friction on the sole issue - giving me grief on the last couple of races. Maybe I'll sack off the shoes and just strap ice packs to my feet - it's unconventional ...but it might just work.
Flippin' 'eck haven't got the hang of this quote thing. If someone says something interesting I might have another go.
I thought Kenny's record was going to go today when I saw Steve Cale blast past me today much earlier than Ricky Lightfoot did last year. Then I realised when we got to the gate that, due to the weather, it was a shortened race.
I understand why the marshals decided to shorten the race, but, I would have liked to do the last bit to compare my time to the last couple of years.
Good to see the Shropshire elite today and many other faces I recognised from the forum, even if it was only for a fleeting second as they went past. I had to dash after the race so couldn't stop to chat.
How many people missed the flagged section ? (The Great Wanderer seems to be making a habbit of going the wrong way ;-) hehe)
hi - just come back - enjoyed this race - wish i knew the course as there was one section where everyone decided to walk - think it was runnable but for some reason i "followed" everyone else and walked...will know for next year Finished in 1.15 so was happy.
see ya at the next one Nightingale!
Dylan
yeah was happy :-) and "touch wood" legs feel fine at the moment...gonna go for a little run in a mo.
yep -im doing Snowdon - its my "local" :-) - you in?..might do Moel Siabod the week before aswell - will see how i am - have been feeling tired - but had a good rest and now feel great again.
Cool. Defo see you at Snowdon if not before. My legs will fine in about half an hour when I'm sinking a pint downt pub ;-)
You mean Race Fuel :-)
Vital carb reloading. See ya, I'm getting thirsty ;-)
Some very poor pics, too wet!!! (plus the fact im useless with a camera)
I did take over 170 but only about 50 are recognisable, I thought I was doing well, taking a pic of everyone who passed me.
Hopefully the guy up the hill had better luck.
Well done all.

Worst conditions Ive ever raced in (admittedly I dont 'do' fellracing much though)
Also my best result (position, obv' not time as it was shortened)- at this rate of annual improvement i will probably win this race in about 2035

Really enjoyed this race today (honest)! - the fourth in my illustrious career, and my last before joining exalted ranks of the V40 later this month. The weather was pretty bad, but not too bad - I was quite comfortable in vest + shorts but then I generate so much heat when I run I could probably keep the other runners around me warm too. I understand why it was shortened - I guess it would have been pretty exposed in the summit. Probably more for the marshal's benefit than ours. I was however more than happy to be turned around at that point!
Cos of the weather I ended up wearing x-talons rather than roclites + was glad I did. I missed the flagged section for a while then spotted more runners off to the right out of the corner of my eye, momentarily thought 'what are those nutters doing??' then realised and veered off to join them for a very short distance, followed by a few who seemed to be following me :o Managed to overtake a few on the steepest bit of the descent, and then lost a couple of places again once it had leveled out a bit. Even managed a bit of a sprint finish at the end but didn't quite manage to catch the guy I was chasing. Made it in 1:24:21, so I reckon I would have been around 1:45 on the full course?
A day of the good, the bad,and the useless.
Firstly the good. The event itself was excellent. Well organised, friendly organisers, brave marshalls in the weather (correct decision to shorten-fine for runners but would never expect marshalls to stand out in that),cake selection afterwards, showers, the route and blow me over the results were up before i got out the shower ! ;-)
The bad. The weather was pretty poor. Not cold but heavy rain with some hail near the top and tremendous gusts. It blew you up the climbs mind but coming back was tough with sight and even breathing difficult !
The useless. Yep that's me. I started ok,had a bit of a stitch (probably caused from eating breakfast and getting straight in the car for 3hrs) but this went once by the stile about a third of the way up. Climbed well after that, running all the way. Got to the top on my own in 5th. Now the disaster, started the descent very strong, passed the Nightingale with a a shout of encouragement, then got to the flagged section .... the section was by a cairn and next to this were two flagged stakes which i now realise told you were you could start using the grass section PARALLEL to the track. In amongst the squall that hit me as i got to the cairn i stupidly thought the two stakes were positioned in such a way that they pointed you in the direction you should be running(about 60deg to the track). Which just so happened to be down a valley of scree and thich heather. I wandered round for a while, sat down for a study of the map to realise the short cut was not anywhere near the short cut i'd imagined. After some fern wrestling back up i emerged by the gate before the only climb on the way back !
Gutted. Nice to meet Nightingale. Great run by the greatest Wanderer. Good day, thanks Keswick AC.
Eh?? you must have shot passed at some point? flippin eck when will my legs get back to normal??? :(
I'm blaming Yiannis for finishing me off at the LAMM!
Stu - lovely to see you :) and thanks for the photo's stirling effort in that weather.
Thanks to all that organised it and to the Marshalls especially, got completley blown off my feet at one point even yelped!!
Great fun though, agree it wasn't cold, lovely summer rain, massive drops that got in the eyes but wouldn't have wanted to hang about at the top for long.
Wrong shoe choice for me too - went with the wave harriers as don't want to chop the heel of the mudclaws and these are the only pair I was prepared to sacrifice in order to be able to run!
Nice to see the fellow BG ladeez Kate and Lyndsay :D
You went past me on the way up. I went past you at the pile of stones ;-)
DUDE ! Just looked at the results and I wandered what happened to you. I hope you see the funny side of it. I think maybe a Shropshire navigation course maybe in order:))

I reckon i lost 15 mins !! Oh well my fault. That's twice in 3 weeks. I wouldn't mind but my nav is pretty good. It's when you don't expect to use it when you start guessing things go all wrong. It's good enough to get me back on track which is the important thing ;-)
