Re: Singlespeed Mountain Bikin
Can I suggest the Peak District as a good, middle of the country location (I am biased of course).
-
Re: Singlespeed Mountain Bikin
I thought South Wales would be quite a good venue...
That is, if I can join on a cross bike rather than a MTB :o
Or worse: use a geared MTB :o

Re: Singlespeed Mountain Bikin
haven't ridden the Altura Trail at Whinlatter yet... would be fun to do with a group of singlespeeders as opposed to my last trip to Coed-Y-Brenin when I was viewed as a freak!

Re: Singlespeed Mountain Bikin
Might be getting slightly away from Singlespeeding now... there's only the beard thing linking the above!
Whinlatter is good for me. I took my lad round one of the trails a month or so ago and it was fun.

Rock Shox Tora 302 w/lockout and fork travel adjuster 130mm, not mono.
18t cog on the back, 32t on the front, not sure how that works out in inches.
21 miles today, mostly off road, loved it, may sneak out on her again tonight when the mrs. is in bed;)

Doris, taking a breather yesterday.

Re: Singlespeed Mountain Bikin
Hi mate. 34 x 18 is ok. Just slightly lower than the purists 32 x 16 (ie 2 to 1). It all depends on where/what you are riding (on).
I think I might be wishing I had a slightly lower gear for my little jaunt next w/end... http://www.sip-events.co.uk/kielder-home.html and possibly some decent waterproofs too!
Anyway, how are you enjoying the new toy? Takes a little while to get 'dialled in' I found. It certainly looks nice.

Re: Singlespeed Mountain Bikin
You've mellowed Fishbulb..... I remember getting stick for saying I was on 32X18.
Good luck at Kielder... was quite tempted by it myself.
-
Re: Singlespeed Mountain Bikin
32 x 18 is still a puffs gear. ;)
Cheers. I think I will need all the luck I can get with this one! Merry, looking forward to meeting you too, mate. Maybe we'll have a Forumites meet in the pub at Helwith Bridge after the event!

The bike looks awesome!!!!!!!!!!
Bit out of touch with bikes these days:
1. Is it aluminium or steel
2. Are the disc brakes cable or 'ydraulic?
3. How much does it weigh?
4. What groupset is it? (Do you still get groupsets? or is it all pick and mix these days?)
5. Finally, the typical Yorkshireman question 'ow much mate?

Re: Singlespeed Mountain Bikin
Ta for the reply,
Been fancying a single speed for a while now. Is this bike your 1st go at single speed or did you knock up an old hack bike before you splashed the cash?
I've got an old Kona Lavadome which I tried to convert to single speeed, problem is I can't get the chain tension sorted as it's got vertical dropouts and therefore no adjustment backwards or forwards.
Would welcome benefit of your experience.
"On yer bike"........

Had a cyclocross singlespeed for over a year now and liked that, you can buy chain tensioners for singlespeed conversions, have a look at this, loads of info

Well, that hurt! It's been a while since I was so wrecked. I managed to finish which I am quite pleased about - I have heard about 68% of the riders didn't. A fantastic, well organised and extremely tough event.
