Re: The 100 push up challenge
Test at the end of week 2 - 23 with decent form - could probably have struggled to 25, but they were starting to become less than graceful. Demoted to column 2, which I'm quite relieved about.
A few more weeks of this and I'll be like Charles Bronson - the convict, not the actor.

Re: The 100 push up challenge
5*15 press-ups -60sec rest.........100 seems a long way off........

Re: The 100 push up challenge
I am off and running, well press upping :)
Having achieved 25 Press ups on the initial test on Thursday, I started the main programme today.
From the initial results it was suggested that I could jump straight to Week 3.
Despite having 3 days rest, my left shoulder was a little stiff but I managed the Week 3 Day 1, left column workout: For set 5 the suggestion was 9 so I added one (just) for good measure.
26 Feb – Initial - 25
2 Mar – W3 D1 - 10. 12. 7. 7. 10

That's the Week 1 Day 1 workout mate. Week 3 Day 1 is 14/18/14/14/max (20)

One of the lesser useful advantages of being a 'stocky' runner
Well I did my 100 press ups yesterday morning. You lot might be good at fell running but you're crap at the important things in life like er.... doing press ups

In that case, you can do the 1000 press-up challenge ;)

Call me Mr. Pedantic! But should not this thread be in the "Training" section of "Non Fellrunning".

Mr Pedantic!
Just think how many fell-runners would suffer less injuries if they improved their core strength...

I thought that I had cocked things up, however:
Week 1 Right Colum is the same as Week 3 Left Colum which is what I followed :)

Indeed you're right :o, but you should be doing column 2 because you did 25 on your test :p;)

Re: The 100 push up challenge
Good going Heathens.
Last day of wk 3 for me today:
28/24/20/20/Max (32) - 122 in total
Bloody hurt mind! Mucked up first sets too: should have been 22 then 30.
Finished off with 4 sets of 7 handstand presses for the shoulders. Almost resulted in a broken neck! Still, got to fill my time in the hotel somehow!

To be honest, I don’t think I could have done column three
Although today’s session was done straight after a hard run

Al, if you can do 26 at the end of the set you should probably jump ahead to week 3. You should be struggling to reach 10 for the 5th set of the first day.

Yeah but that's after doing the other 4 sets. If you can do 26 on the 5th set, you must be able to do about 35-40 if you're fresh?

Re: The 100 push up challenge
I seem to be suffering from perpetual doms, doing these pushups every other day... bliddy hard they are, I feel like I am never going to get back to a semblance of my former self and I only dislocated my shoulder mid August, so that is only half a year of no upper body work at all... I have become such a weakling!
Mind you, getting a dislocated shoulder to heal completely in 6 months isn't half bad... and I did my own re-hab :D
-
Re: The 100 push up challenge
I love the doms (now I know what they are!): means it's working. No pain, etc.
You've done well with you're shoulder, H. I'm sure with more of your determination you'll soon find you're making good progress!;)

Feeling wrecked from last night still, dont think im going to quite manage 26 max at come tomorrow.:o
-
Re: The 100 push up challenge
It suggested I start at week 3 based on the initial 25 I did, however I struggled with Day ones plan, only just completing the requirements for the first 4 sets and maxing out at 15 in the fifth set when I should have reached 17.
We'll see how day 2 goes on thursday.

Re: The 100 push up challenge
Another session completed:
To be honest it was a bit tough, although perhaps the schedule is not designed for a fifty year old who is also knocking off 50 miles a week running.
Another factor is that I was straight off an hour steady run with only ten minutes stretching before the press ups.
Anyway today’s session was:
Week 3 Colum 1 Day 2: 10 – 12 – 8 – 8 -13
I only realised when I came to log the workout that I was allowed 90 secs recovery, I only took a minute:eek:

Re: The 100 push up challenge
Might have to postpone the start of Week 4. Was going to do it tomorrow, but have got some serious man-flu building, and can already feel my temperature rising and getting aches in all me joints.
May need to recap the last day of week 3 once I'm over it.
-
Re: The 100 push up challenge
Just done 40, so double me output in less than 2 weeks.........100s gona be bleeding hard.....

100 push ups should sort that out for you! :D

Re: The 100 push up challenge
Hey, just come across this thread.
Both me and Mrs MH attempted this just before Christmas.
My initial test was 80, her's was 58.
After the 6 weeks I managed 95, she managed 100:rolleyes:
I think the key to her success was that she completed all the
sessions to the letter whereas I tended to fall short on the numbers on the 'max out' set at the end of each session.
BTW, I was using the hardest level of training, by the end she was using the easiest level but making sure she completed it.
Hope this helps some of you.
MH

I'm gonna start Week 4 (col. 3) on Monday. Gonna repeat Week 3 Day 3 tomorrow. Grrr.

Re: The 100 push up challenge
I did my test on Wednesday.
14. Then being stubborn and determined I could do more, I tried again and did 16 the second time.
Hurts afterwards doesn't it, I can still feel it :o
I'll start week 1 tomorrow

Week 2 Day 2: 14 / 16 / 12 / 12 / max (17)
Really struggled with the 5th set but I think that's because my mate's missus gave birth the other day and we were 'wetting the baby's head' until 4am this morning!
