Yes, spoke to her - she came 5th. Well done!

Enjoyable day out... quite pleased with the run overall (201st I believe, just missed out on top 200 in the sprint finish!) - I agree that the muddy parts of the course were hard work, but that's what Cross Country should be, a mix of mud, hills, and 'runnable' sections.
Well done to those who had good ones today - obviously RoadRunner winning, Bisto had a good one in 7th, but Pike had a stormer getting inside the first 100, Sparth Bottoms was ahead of me for about a lap (I only realised in the finishing funnels that I'd actually passed him!), Pudgy had a good one (good to see you at the end there Mate!)...
It wasn't all that muddy. Compared with Witton Park the other week it was a delightfully manicured surface that wouldn't have disgraced Wimbledon, St Andrews and the outfield at Lords. The sort of place where the ability to run rather than flounder holds sway.
Congrats to all. I thought it was an excellent cross country course. Full of twists, turns, little climbs, sharp descent, some decent running and a good muddy section. RR a worthy winner once again. One day I'll hopefully get myself fit enough to try and follow those starts of his although I think Raven might have a had a chance at beating him if he'd taken the initiative earlier. Team win for my boys too - 5 in a row now :)
gutted i could't i couldn't run today, but i suppose things catch up with you sometimes. What a race it was too, well done jonsey, i thought raven would catch you at the end but you managed to hold him off.
Tried to cheer as many of you as possible;
Jones- confortable all the way through
norman- 7th
Deakin has a good race- top ten i think
pike- top 100
Sparth bottoms
nick burke- did you catch owen, or did the smell put you off?
DAnbert- concentrate on your own race and not on others
Swoop
Well done everybody- i'll be back next year.
Chaddy - sore subject, I was a bit gutted at the end, coz I put in a hard finish and Owen looked round with about 50M to go and just held me off - another 100M running and I would have got him. Still a big improvement on last years 248th. :)
Hopefully we'll have you back in action before too long (maybe Woodbank in 2 weeks?).
Well done Roadie i love it when a courageous front running approach wins the day.:)
Thanks for the support Chaddy and everyone else.. it was really appreciated.
Well done to the NOEAA i thought the course was a model cross country course. What does everyone reckon the distance was though, i've logged it as about 6 and 1/2 miles?
Particularly well done to TDMA and Wily Vet from the Glossopdale branch of the forum, who both had blistering runs today.
TDMA watch your back, i'm after you in Sunderland matey. If you're travelling up there in our care in the community battle bus, remember what happened to Alexander Litvinenko. :D
Well, it was a test, i'd give myself a C- really.
Felt great first lap, but should have eased off instead of getting carried away. Was 80th after 1st lap which was too high - went beackwards from there on in, mud albsolutley crippled me, but I guess it was the same for everyone. Managed to stop going backwards on the last lap and redeemed myself slightly. More conservatism required in Sunderland and I may do better.
Agree with track fairy, great course, though why they advertise the race in the programme as a distance it clearly was not is beyond me - Danbert has it about right I reckon.
Well done to all who ran today!
Cheers for the support today forum members. It was very much appreciated, especially when Raven was hunting me down ready for the kill It was, as you state Danbert, an exceptionally good XC course. Well done the the NoEAA. (Have I really just typed that!) Distance was rather shorter than stated as it only took me 33.35 for the race.
Wel done to all those who ran and participated today.
I noticed young Blue Haywod had a good run and Fetlock did. Well done all.
See you all at the Nationals.
Looking back it was fun! I beat the time I set myself and the course was a good one (apart from the really boggy bit at the back of the first field, that was just silly!) Met Swoop and the usual Brummy and Danbert (beating me) However, as I had fallen over last Wednesday and was covered in cuts and bruises and both knees were hurting, not bad really;)

Great picture RR - ;)
I really enjoyed that course (well I had more time to enjoy it than most of you). Best course since Roundhay or the Derby Golf Course.
Definitely runnable and lots of little hills were great, just had lots of people streaming past me on the flat. The gloop was depressing and hard work, but it didn't last long, and it was the same for everybody.
Good to see various folk there (sorry I missed you AP), and well done to the leading forumites for some outstanding performances.
See you at White Holme tomorrow. I'll be the one running funny.
Good runs from Widy and Danbert, and how about Mr Bentley!
I thought this was 12 men per team, but the result show 6. Whats going on Danbert?
Well done all who ran. It was a good course but I was convinced I had at least another half lap to do because of the time. it was obviously a short course, 6.5 miles I reckon.
Quite a strong wind when you were against. Quite enjoyable. I wish I had entered the national now.
The Senior Mens winning time (33:35) was the quickest ever.
The previous shortest time was in 1993 (34:39) at Pontefract racecourse.
This would indicate that the course was probably the shortest ever....
or Roadrunner and the rest of the field ran extremely fast!
The total number of athletes who finished was over 2007...the first time this century that the total number of finishers has been greater than the year of competition!
1998 (2,524) and 1999 (2,150) were the only years when the combined total of male and female athletes who finished were higher that the 2,059 who finished yesterday.
Its good to see that cross country running is still flourishing.
This makes sense, but some bits are confusing. Like the section I have quoted you on.
Do you have a complete list of winners of the SM race since the first race?
Apart from Dr Ron Hill, Dave Lewis, Steve Kenyon and myself, how amny others have wn this race twice on the run? Anyone won it more than twice on the run or more than twice over any period?
On another stats point XRunner, how many times has a person with the same name won two age groups like what happened in the U15 and U17 races? (They were not brothers either)
http://www.gbrathletics.com/bc/neaao.htm tells all RR. 4 in a row is the best ever streak so there's plenty of work to do yet!
We've got our eyes on Bingley's record of 7 team wins in a row now!
The only fault with the course is the length really. It needed a short lap at the start to give it those extra 5 minutes.
Interesting to note that brother and sister Alan and Anne Buckley have both won the Northern senior title but not in the same year. I'm fairly sure they were both 10th one year too. Who can resist a good stat!
I don't have a computer list of all the Northern winners.
The Centenary History of the Northern Cross Country Association was published in 1982 (written by Dr Phil Thomas from Sutton St.Helens). This lists all team and individual winners for the first 100 years. Other results are from Athletics Weekly.
Five people have won the Northern Senior Men Cross Country Championships 4 times:
James Hosker (Farnworth H.) 1898, 1899, 1903 and 1905
Ernest Jones (Hallamshire H.) 1912, 1913, 1914 and 1921
Jack Potts (Saltwell H.) 1932, 1936, 1937 and 1938
Ron Hill (Bolton United H.) 1964, 1965, 1967 and 1968
Trevor Wright (Hallamshire H.) 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972
Five people have won it three times:
E.W.Parry (1888, 1889, 1891), E.Harper (1925, 1926, 1927), F.E.Aaron (1949, 1950, 1951), F.Norris (1953, 1954, 1959) and D.Lewis (1983, 1994, 1995)
Ten people have won it on two occasions:
G.Crossland (1894, 1896), J.Murphy (1909, 1910), C.Vose (1911, 1920), W.Beavers (1928, 1929), G.North (1960, 1961), M.Turner (1963, 1966), S.Kenyon (1978, 1979), G.Turnbull (1986, 1987), P.Roden (1988, 1997), A.Jones (2006, 2007)
Good run from everyone at Dale, some excellent individual performances and 17th in the team event is very respectable. Good job I noticed you in the last quarter mile Danbert, I think you had switched into silent approach. The MTL next weekend will feel like a walk in the park!?!
Come on Chaddy stop this on line abuse of Owen, it's becoming unpleasant and frankly quite offensive. I know (or at least i hope) you're only joking, but i'm sure i'm not the only forumite who finds it's unkind and objectionable.:(
I was hoping to sidle up to you quietly but the crowd gave me away. I think you were that bit too strong for me though. Well done.Quote:

Cheers danbert
I thought I was behind you all the way as i started off deliberately slowly as to not get caught up in the cavalry charge at the start. I think the mainly firmish going played to my strengths more than Boggart Hole Clough, but i realise you will be a worthy foe come the Nationals.
The loser gets the first drinks in on saturday night.:)
Thought Gareth Raven's run was totally inspiring yesterday. I was well impressed. Another half lap and I think he'd have swallowed up Andi. But well done to all.
I take it you didn't race FellMonster? How's the injury? fancy a race next weekend in Bath?
Just washed my spikes after Saturday and if everyone who raced took as much mud away as I did there must be servere erosion in Heaton Park
Good to see the likes of Rob Hope, Ian Holmes and Andy Peace around 20-30ish. Does anybody know what Ians highest ever place was in the northern/national XC?
Blimey, what about that Roadrunner eh? Well done mate.
Just as well I changed my forum name from Theroadrunnner after the 'big crash of '06'. I was definitley at the wrong party there!
And how come there's not a Southern XC Champs thread running at the moment?
danbert - forget the psychology the traditional curry and 5 pints of cobra will slow TDMA down- plus fergal will bore him to death talking about young nurses and physiotherapy:D
some good photo's on here from the northern

this one is worth a caption from the look on the spectators face!

I loved this race! I think it's because I set off steady and picked it up in the second lap. I'd forgotten what it was like to pass people in the second half-been setting off too fast recently.
Finished 31 places higher up than last year - but there were less running...
