Found this in Morrisons today:
"Mug Shot" creamy cheese pasta snack. Put in mug, add boiling water, stand 5 minutes (so no further cooking and wasting gas). Dry weight 68gr, 300cals :D. Looks a very promising 'hot drink' as a starter. Other spicy flavours available but not so nutritious.
Looks like he did! Well done Simon.

He's walking & smiling, no effort in that :p :p.
The Mug Shot sounds like a candidate.
I found that I simply could not face porridge yesterday morning on the RAB. I set off having had no breakfast - not something I would normally do as Splatcher knows.
I think I will take either cous cous or noodles for the OMM Sun morning breakfast.
Maybe - gulp - I have simply got fed up of porridge.
Still not convinced about the dodgy custard pies though.
Porridge needs a big spoonfull of honey.
I eat the instant sachet 'porridge with syrup', which is quick easy and has the sugar boost first thing. 2 sachets per person.
Had one of the 'mug shots' at weekend, a spicy flavour one (can't remember what) and actually very good - in terms of easy to get down and palatable. I think they will definately replace my instant noodles on occasion.
Missus and I are now official 'helpers' on the OMM. Hope we get a good remote checkpoint somewhere - bacon sarnie anyone .......:p
Thats no smile, thats a rictus of pain. And I wasn't walking, I was merely employing Ruddles Rule!:p The mistake I made was not to Ruddles Rule it from the start. Expended WAY too much energy in the first half of the race and fell back from 34th to 59th on the trudge up Pen Y Gadair. Thought I'd never get to the top of the effin thing! Thats when the pack really makes its presence felt. BUT I was quite pleased. Managed to get the entire kit to 6kg and it slowed me by 45 mins compared to last years time.
It was a real mind of matter issue to finish, specially when I saw Falling Stone in bits at the second Grwyne crossing...Mind won!:)
I caught you up on Pen-y-Gadair last year and that means something, as I am SLOW!!! It really seems to get at you, that hill...
I always employ Ruddles Rule on long distance stuff... But may I point out to you that where you are, it is no longer an uphill struggle? More or less undulating downhill to Bal Mawr ;)
No, it was DEFINATELY UP! at that point!!:D
Sorry to hear you are not doing our local event Moley.
I have to join you on the non starters line. Achilles prob like you as well as knackered knee from impact with the ground. Completely gutted as I'll never get an OMM so close to home again. If it was in Cape Wrath I might not have minded so much! My partner has now got a "lady" to replace me.... he won't want me back again!
I've known it was here in the Elan for over 2 years, and it has been difficult keeping that under wraps!
How many crocked locals are there, failing to make the start? Anyone else? We could do our own straight line event, see if we can get from the start to the finish in the 2 days!
Yes, gutted, it was to be the Missus first event (and probably only MM) as well. But physio knows best and after 4 months of rehab I'm not going to blow it all now with a walk over the Elan that I've done 50 times before.
We contacted Jen and are helping marshall.
Missus and I are on the early registration from 2 - 7ish Friday evening, not sure where after that (pub). Look us up anyone arriving then.
I'm helping too, but haven't heard from Jen yet:confused:
The postbox at the end of the lane was infested with snails. I hope she got my letter....
I'm hoping that the ligaments in my shoulder will heal up in time.
Yes he's back. Spoke to him Tuesday and he'll be in touch with you. Coming over to me to check some kit out next week, think he needs to know what you have etc. then he may be able to borrow some from me.
Think he ran Arenig on Sunday after his hols and went pretty well :).
Will you be my cuban mule??;)
Well that's my OMM packing finished, & I shall be heading off south on Wednesday night. A week camping and birdwatching on Lundy, with the odd training run thrown in, then straight to Builth. The weather's looking good this week, as least. See you all there :)
Sounds different - not sure where you're going to find a fresh lime in the howling wastes of Elan!
Cuban Mule Bacardi with fresh Lime, a dash of Angostura bitters and topped with Ginger Ale
I'm doing the omm for the first time this year (done others but not this one) what I don't understand is that the info says that they give you a map that already has the checkpoints and the straight line course marked on it, but then it talks about marking up your map - what's to mark up? And what happens on Sunday? Do you get the checkpoint grid refs on a bit of paper like in the lamm?
I have my little bag all packed too - no cigars or cocktails though!
Thanks, I can now jettison the map pen for a tiny pencil stub
First one to touch PBITMON is the winner!!:D
I now have a marshalling sticker .... looking forward to being a grumpy bugger in a tent shouting at weirdos in tights .... and wishing I was one of them!
See you there then. I'll be looking after the soup, and swearing at people trying to park their cars
We may as well join in the grumpy swearing, make up for not being able to run.
Save us a decent parking place Pudgy ;).
Just got my balloon bed , this will be a right laugh to sort out when your fingers are cold and its blowing a gale!!!!!
It's easy enough. Tent up, in your pit, brew up, eat, lie around for a bit, eat some more, yawn, then blow up the balloons. You should be warm enough by then, unless you've left the down out of your pit to save weight (see SLMM 2009 disqualification saga). Blow them up first & you'll be bursting them before bedtime. I've only had one balloon burst in 3 MMs, & that was before I'd settled down to sleep.
it said ten minutes on instructions, didnt manage to do it as quick as that ,only burst three ballons trying so qiute chuffed with my first attempt...
That's somewhere I haven't been for a while. Back in my youth (a full quarter of a century ago) we tried to see how many people we could fit in it. Felt a bit silly when someone came along wanting to use it. I'm far more sensible now (in which case, why am I doing the OMM?)
Lovely day over the Elan today, 3 hours walking about up there - my longest day out in 4 months, and I managed a very little jog :). But came out the house this morning and it was -3c at 8.30am, wonder what it was earlier? Pack warm kit if the high pressure persists ;).
