Fortunately I felt fresh and the pace stayed sensible to Settle but then went up a notch. I felt that good I went to the front just before Wray and did a 10 mile stint at a steady 22-25 MPH pace. From then on to the cafe we did 10 minutes each on the front at a steadily increasing pace and I was glad to see the cafe at the 57 mile point. A re-fuel and talk of a steady ride home which was all lies. I took the front for the 1st 5 minutes at a briskish pace but then never saw the front again although I didn't lose contact with a wheel. By Hurst Green my legs had nothing to give on the short climbs but as luck would have it the speed dropped for the last few miles back to Whalley from where I rode home alone at a pace 6 year old girls on pink bikes would have no problem keeping. 2 rides in over 3 weeks is not a good platform for a hard ride. Before my crawl home the average was 19.
