oh and today i finally changed from a 12 / 25 to a 13 / 26 :(:eek::(
Did a cold 78 today. 16 set off, 8 returned. We got lost somewhere south of Wigan and did a lot of messing about on busy roads. Not my preferred route choice but not too bad a ride out.
1/2 Tour route yesterday, shortish run Tommoz and then 9 mile FR race at Dufton Saturday as long as it's not interrupted by adverse weather.
13/26??? I have either 12/25 or 12/27 on mine... depending what hilleage I am going to encounter...
I think mines 19/ something.:o Still dont know what it means.
The 12/25 isnt a problem but by fitting a 13/26 it helps keep the more commonly used sprockets on the big ring for when your tramming along. I would very rarely use the 26 sprocket or the 25 for that matter when climbing as I always like to keep one in hand.
Normally climb steep hills on the 23.
And to be honest if your using the 12 sprocket your doing 50mph :D.
I think the only time Ive ever used the 12 tooth is when a certain forumite past me doing 50mph and threw a bidon at me:). She had her chin on the bars at that time, it was a blurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
It does amaze me though how many newcomers try and climb in the big ring and cross there chain.
Just having a new chain and cassete on my Rourke after nearly 4 years and god knows how many thousands of miles. Thats not bad especially as most of my riding is in the Peak District and the pressure you put on the climbing sprockets is a hell of a lot.
Keep up the training on bike Hann, and you should do a more in depth report. Oh and a picture or two of your bikes please.
We need more pictures of everyones bikes.
AL
On your back wheel
Big sprockets and little sprockets mate yes.
Okay mark a tooth on the little sprocket with tipex or marker, turn the sprocket and count the teeth, should be either 12 or 13 usually.
Same on big sprocket and that could be 25, 26 even 29
Or if you clean your bike and the sprockets arnt covered in crap it should say the num,ber on them. Although some dont.
Campag ones usually do.
The 25/26/ 29 ones are your climbing sprockets
hence the bikie 12/25 or 13/26
Not much difference and everyone is different in there preference.
Can't you just get on your average road bike and be able to cope with the hills or is the average bike ill equipped.
You can indeed
Depends on what you class as average. Most road bikies that ride a lot buy a lightweight road bike with 10speed gearing. ( Apart from Brett who rides a fixed and thats just an age thing).
If your doing lots of miles then your average bike becomes hard work. Weight, tyres and other things become issues.
Ive converted many a cyclist who has been struggling with a heavy bike with knobbly tyres on and have just about given up. They have a little go on my road bike and think God its a lot easier. In reality its not easy but for your general average cyclist who just wants to do a few miles at a steady pace it is.
You can now purchase a lightweight good quality roadbike fairly cheap.
I see thankyou daz i did wonder. I have a Giant Defy 4 cheap thing in the garage.Should i be alright with that or do i need to go lighter.
Here goes with the pics then:

Nice bikes (pity about the hairy legs!!!!!!!!) Addy, you'll have to get one over to the Peak when I have finished my latest picture (it's special). Did a quick ride in the freezing rain today, then finished off on the turbo (wow just absolutely warmed up on the turbo and it was so smooth [whole range of gear ratios and cadence], plus some descent music....The Who) :)
Not one of your legs, the bike :p
I shave my legs for no man. Well maybe.
Bet you would be up for shaving Addy's though :p
Oi - leave mi legs alone! I prefer the fellrunner look!!
Were are Hanneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeks bike pictures.
They are remaining very elusive
Are we to assume Hann is actually a Rosslyn Lady ????:)
Here you go Daz, fillet brazed Reynolds 631 with Campag,

Thats my summer bike, note from the shed door how small it is.
Most of my bikes are here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...3&l=4cb649c1c7
Haven't got a icture of the TT bike or the MTB yet...
Did 3 hours on the track yesterday, much better than last week... Both physically and mentally. Think it did help the bike stayed in one piece this week LOL
Turbo this morning, no time for going out on the road, as it was my fell race today...
Road ride tomorrow, 3 hours or so, if the weather will allow... Forecast is pretty dreadful!
Lactate treshold test on Wednesday, to see where I stand and to get training intensities right :)
Ten day training trip to Mallorca planned as well... My goodness, if I don't get better at riding a bike, God knows what is wrong and I must get back to fell running LOL
The Giant TCR is a lovely bike, very eye catching indeed.
You will get better and faster. Sometimes it can come quick on a bike. I go for two or three rides and feel rubbish then the next one bang you fly along.
Derny training is the way forward but no bugger arond here has one:)
lets hope this weather picks up.
Daz, derny stuff is next, once I have built up a proper base again :)
I use 53 or 52 (depending on bike) 12 quite reagularly... but never on the flat lol
Turbo for me today, oh the shame of it... no real excuse other than that the weather forecast was crap and we sort of resigned oursleves to a lazy morning in stead of the clubrun... :D

My trusty steed, estimated 100,000 miles since it's birth in 1988. Note that it sports all the thoughtful and sociable aspects for those that can stay on my wheel :p
Good weather at last :)
67 miles in glorious sunshine (after the 1st hour anyway). A loop into the Yorkshire Dales taking in the hidden gem of a cafe at Feizor. 2 of us split from the group on the way home and did a bit of hard riding for 15 miles or so. Good few hours out with a cracking somewhat rowdy lunch.
I went spinning again tonight. I cant get use to riding with so many ladies around me
Todays bike ride will be a lactate treshold test at Newport Uni
It is the having to ride really hard that freaks me out, not the blood samples that will be taken...
We need to swap classes, thought I'd walked into a men's only class last night :o topped it off having to teach the session, certainly unexpected  if I'd known I'd have put my lippie on!!!:D At least they got use of their sweat towels to mop it all off the floor :D
