Heard nothing yet, presume I am still 15th reserve. Still waiting and hoping!
Time to bring the thread back to the top.
What training would you recommend to bring my time from 2:10 to under 2:00 other than just getting out and running harder?
im just gonna keep the mileage up , have a good taper before the race instead of like a 12 mile one day before a fell race
mostly i want to do well but enjoy it
A yard of Ale the night before should do the trick!!!!
I'm sure you suggested this earlier in the thread - dont want other runners trying to get my share of the Ben Race Ale. It normally sells out on the Friday night already. It might get like the race itself - numbers will be limited and we will have to get pre-ordered supplies a year before the night!!!
Hey Up Timo'
Missed seeing you doin' the trotting bit in the Mourne....! (How are the pic's?)
If you end up not-trotting again, can I try and trot in your very esteeeeeeemed place!?
PS: I've not seen any barriers on the Ben (for trotters & non-t's).... so far!
Oops, this thread's slipping down the rankings again. Any reserves been offered an entry?
Well rescued Marvin, just over 4 months to go. Is all the training going well. If not Panic !!!!
Ayup - sorry for the late reply, but you certainly can try trottin' in my place. I hope to be fit not fat by the Ben, but it depends on the next couple of months!
Pics are sittin' somewhere on the memory card but have been filtered for the next FRA mag - i hope i don't let the cat out the bag about you and Wendy Dodds!!
Be good and I'll see you tomoz, i hope.
Timo
Having read of many Forum reccys of various races - how come nobody wants to reccy this one? Recognise there is not much route choice, but if you get the zig-zags wrong you can lose time - you dont want to zagging when you should be zigging!!:D
Tomsk - I've got it back on the first page for you.
I think a car breakdown would be in order - you could fill up with the wrong fuel on purpose at the service station on the Inverness Rd. Should take more than a couple of hours for a garage to sort it out - no point hanging about whilst they fix it. Wife could browse the shops on the high st whilst you put your walshies to good use!
.....
Mapper did you have a senior moment here!!! Forgot to put your thoughts down? Anyway, it got the BN Thread back to the top of the leader board. How was Coniston?
If anyone is looking for entries there is an alternative race on 23/9.
Ok ok, the cost is £75 and you do have to do a bit of a Loch swim and a bike ride 1st, but finishes with a quick run up/down the Ben.

See y'all there (1st and/or 23rd)
I've booked into the YH in Glen Nevis for the nights before & after the race. Anyone else from the forum going to be there??
I have just bought another book which contains a chapter about the history of this race.
The book contains one of the best histories of this mountain.
The definitive history of this race is:Quote:
Ben Nevis. Britain's Highest Mountain
by Ken Crocket. Published by Scottish Mountaineering Trust, 1986
ISBN 0907521169
Quote:
The Ben Race: The Supreme Test of Athletic Fitness
by H. D MacLennan
Publisher: Ben Nevis Race Association (1994)
ISBN-10: 0952445328
...theory - has anyone trained for the Ben by coming off a hard hill descent and doing 10 minutes hard on the road? I lost too much time last year with ma jelly legs.
Time to start the serious Ben training now I think. I note that the current King of the Mountains completed the Old County Tops this weekend in just over 10 hours - now that's some serious training!!
I'll have to beat him by more than 15 secs this year.
Is anyone staying in a camper at the sports centre?
